View Full Version : Allow user to enter amount in a subscription

I use the Paid Subscriptions feature to allow users to make contributions. I have $5, $10, $20, $30, and $50 set up, but it'd be nice if a hack would allow a user to enter a number of their choice for a specific subscription (which could be used for contributions). :)

I know this thread is old.. But I was wondering if anyone has ever actually attempted this? I could really use this for my non-profit site.
Cheers!!

I too am interested in this.
I am willing to donate with others to have a hack available for this. Same goes for Categorizing and deleting options.
ANyone else willing to help donate to this cause to make Paid Subscritions a much better hack.

Is the paid subscriptions a hack or a feature?
URL link anybody to the hack?

This could be possible... but I highly doubt anyone would do this for free, as you'll be making money out of it...

Thats my guess too.
I am not looking to be the only donor either, if we can find someone talented enough to build it the it should be done. I am willing to put a few bucks along with others to make this public for everyone to take advantage of.

I guess I could do this. If you want it developing by me you will have to contact me via PM, include features you want, the (admin & user)interface you would prefer and you will have to be prepared to give me access to either your development board or your production board + ftp + phpMyAdmin. :)

Unfortunetly you thinking of a one time one fee type of deal and that is not what I was asking here.
I don't wish to be the single donor. Plus I do not plan on giving admin privilages to anyone. I am looking for someone to design this hack or Modification and people will donate towards it.
Thanx

The alternative is that you can either wait till I can afford to buy another Vbulletin license, domain and hosting. or untill someone else develops this.
Admin Interface: I take it you would just want one subscription type to be a variable amount, but how would you like to set the subscription manager to use the variable donation rather than a price... (and minimum donation etc)
Or would you like hard-coded options rather than an enhancement of the whole subscription system.

Not really,
for me personally this is what I would require.
- I need to be able to delete members form Paid subscription like it was any other command.
- I would require to be able to categorize different subscriptions into a group. So if I have one group that has several pricing options all the names would go under the group name jsut with different due dates for the payment they made.
- I would liek to have an option where I can make one or two subscriptions varable for I would have serveral uses for them.
- Then If it is possible I would like to have the opertunity to select my dates to send out renewal notices via e-mail. Rather then having to go inot the code and manually do it and with the possibiilty of screwing up.
That might be it for the moment. Iam sure others can come up with more ideas.

Its been 6 months and there is almost 100,000 members on this forum and of which and average of 300 Users are on simotaneously. And no one else can help or have answers.
How disapionting!!! Ohh wiat would someone do it for 100 bucks. no wait maybe you want 1000 bucks because I am making money on my site.
I CALL B.S.
Why, I deserve the right to make my money back from which I spent out gracisouly to purchase these three licences from VB and renewals not to mention the programmers on my board and oh finally the cost of running an overseas server. Oh please, don't feel sorry for me for not wanting to make my expenses back. BTW my time is worth soemthing too. Any one who runs a forum knows how much work they put in to make their members happy.
As I stated in my earlier threads. Somethings are worth paying extra for. BUT.... I don't wish to be the only donor because I am NOT paying someone their full asking price when that person could be getting donations for his or her work. Where has the courtesy gone with this site. 4 years ago, people were more than happy to help. But that has changed over the years. People are becoming greedy. And all I want is a better product.
BTW I was charging fees to my members well before this Paid Subscription hack was first implemented. I decided to use it to make my life simpler. I still need to pay my bills and I am lucky to scrape by. WHat ever happened to people helping people.
I hope we can make this a better place.

EZ-Dozet,
I am getting a bit tired of you posting the same complaint in multiple threads (maybe i got a bad day). I gave you an explanation in the other thread, and in addition to that, just have a look around at the more then 1000 vB3.0 hacks released here for free.
Also why should anybody help you for free to make money?

Hey Marco
I bet you didn't pay 400 US for 3 licences and 90 bucks per year to keep them renewed.
That money is not coming out of my pocket bud. Unless you want to pay for it. Not to mention all the other fees I incur to get VB to run. My bills do run high and I split it amongst the members of my board to keep it low enough to have it run. And my members are happy doing that. So any other or additional cost that are unexpected to improve my forum has to be adjusted.
So yeah I apreciate the help people are offering here. Don't get me wrong. I jsut don;t want to pay through the teeth for something that should be done properly to begin with.

I do understand your emotions, but unfortunatly vb.org is not the place to ventilate those worries.
If you try to see it from the point of view from our members/coders, then i think you will understand this. Our members didn't get any money from that what you have spend, but you are asking/demanding that they will give up their free time for you.
If you have feeling that you didn't get what you have paid for (the vBulletin product with all features advertised) then you should take that complaint to Jelsoft over at vb.com or the proper support channels.
I know this sounds maybe harsh in your situation, but try to see it from the other side.

Marco,
Actually I do see it form your side aswell. But if you read my comments. I never not once said I wouldn't support a good hack. I jsut don't want to be the only one doing it. Or if that what it seems to be. Before (talking a few years ago) Coders, writers alike had a donations tab on the bottom of thier posts. It wasn;t there to shine out or make you pay. It was there if those that feel that the code was worth downlaoding and made a differnce on thier site. THen let it be up to the good members here to decide that. I am someone that wnats to get the most of what is avaiable. Meaning If you buy someones asking price for a hack then unfortunely it might be only me or possibly a handful of sites that actually benifet from this when I feel everyone is here for the same reason and we all should benifet.
There has to be a better solution to this.

Ive been poking around vb.com today and from what I can tell its just discussion of this feature and nothing to be released anytime soon as usual.
It sure would be nice to see someone release this feature as a plugin or product. But it would be even greater to see VB.com add this into their next version of VB.
Im just looking for a simple way for my members to donate money in any amount they want and using the paid subscriptions feature that is already built in to VB would be an excellent way of accomplishing this.
We dont need all the other extra bells and whistle such as letting the whole world know who donated and how much.
My members want privacy and dont want the world know things, and honestly I dont blame them. If i had my choice I would disable those features completly.
