Just curious, but does anyone know of any "Pre modded" boards that one could download and install? Rather than having to go through all the hacks one by one to install.
I know there's an offshoot of phpBB called phpBB plus, which is exactly that.
Does something like that exist for Vbulletin?

Nope. I guess this would break the license agreement.

Kirby is correct, it would be illegal for anyone to do this.

Actually, it would just be legal, if Jelsoft themselves would offer something like this, but then they would have to support the modded board as well, and that's the main reason, why they cannot do so.

what if jelsoft sponsored sucha site to do that like vb.org :) really all a site would need like that is the access to vbulletin.com's members to verify email etc. just like vb.org does and basically if person is verified they can download the board. is that not a good idea or what, i was thinking about something like that and i would gladly help run it;)

Yea, that's what I was thinking
Couldn't it be put up on here as a mod? or would the uploading of the VB files break the license agreements?

The individual files have License codes inthem and are uniquely identifiable - so if I modded my board, then uploaded it, I would have multple copies of MY baord ID showing up inthe logs @ vb.org ...

well what if jelsoft offered the files in a closed support area like theirs and it used the same system(including license numbers in the files for each member just like their system). I believe if we did that it would work out>_>

I think its actually better if people did thier own hacks. I had to reinstall quite a few when upgrading to vb3 and it didnt take that long.

Makes sense, thanks for the replies
What about a "hack" that's like an installation program? which would modify all files, make all template changes automatically?
So, it'd require a certain version (Clean) of Vbulletin, then you just upload the hack and hit go and it does it all for you?

But AFAIK it never worked 100% and has got a lot of security issues.

Manual file edits are the best way to go, although it might be complicated for a novice user.

The best way to do it would be a windows program - not php. (Or a linux script)

The user would download their vbulletin files to their computer and then run a windows program that would modify the files before they are uploaded to the server.

Then, it would be a simple matter of running an install script on the server to make the database and template changes.

It could be done. The question is, what hacks should be included in a default modded board? (The user should also be able to select which of the hacks should be installed by the Windows program)

well i think hacks to be included should be some of the top installed hacks and hacks which have received HotM. at least thats my thinking

I think its na very good idea, and would be useful to a lot of hackers.

I was thinking of writing a script that installs a bunch of hacks at once.... Thats legal right? It would be similar to EasyMod for phpBB area51.phpbb.com
