Endless, whatever you are using for a php editor throw it away. It's adding all kinds of garbage to the file. I cleaned it up and emailed it back to you. Try using the attached editor instead from now on. It's free and it works a thousand times better.

I have uninstalled this hack and replaced every backup file but still have new users that have this in the registration

I had to remove mine too, I think my board is too hacked for it to work. Just follow the installation directions in reverse. Take your time and do it step by step and you will be done in 30 minutes.

The "New DB" file is for those people who get timeout errors when adding the db changes. This file does it in smaller pieces so it can be done easier. The "Cron Task" file is what you need to run the cron tasks this hack needs.


What is the FORUMHOME template update install info? Is that something else i must do as well as download the above file/s or is this for people who downloaded an earlier version.The FORUMHOME template is what is used to show what appears on the main page of your forum. The FORUMHOME link (which is also in the first post of this thread) is the modification you need to do (after you have installed the hack) to get a weather display to appear on the main page of your forum.

Thats it.
Cron tasks are commands that are run automatically are specific times. In your vbb ACP you have a section for scheduling. You would setup a cron task in there.

Step 8 - In USERCP_SHELL add this code right blow the header tag.

I don't think this is correct..leaving out the fact that it should be 'below', the only 'header tag' is $header. Surely that should read 'below the $headinclude tag' or '<head> tag' .. or 'inside your header'.

Can someone advise me what this AUTH_ID is....?

Also, Ive got it installed, but its not showing me a forecast in the userCP although when you change your location it is completing without error. My userfiled entry has updated to the correct location, though the forum display isnt happening and the usercp isnt working.

I know it seems the author has disappeared - and if that is the case, maybe the main post should have the "agreed to support this modification" revoked ;( but if any other member has a clue I would be very grateful for a direction.

When you register, you get a number, which I know is very confusing, in the UserCP you get the actual menu, is there any way to either 1. Remove it from the registration page, or 2 make it a selection like it is in the usercp?

I am getting somewhere. In the template userfield_weather, you are missing the closing tag for fieldset.

However, the "select" button which is set to display in weather still displays in there.

I would like to add that when I empty that template completely, the other non related field disappear.

I fixed my issue. I am convinced that this is a vbulletin bug. Once I made the other non related fields non private, the problem was gone.

All installed and works great. Thanks for the excellent addition. However, there is one minor problem:

The Forecast displays on the Forum Home with Internet Explorer and Opera, but not with Mozilla Firefox. Probably one of the conditionals in the FORUMHOME template is not compatible with it. Do you have a fix for this?

Schorsch That's defined via main.css which is loaded with the FORUMHOME template. You can change the colors by editing it.

If you have more than one skin you would need different .css files and further conditionals in FORUMHOME loading the right .css, depending on which skin is used.

Go into current_weather_two template.

Change the first "wic" to "alt2". Then change the second "wic" to "alt1". Works like a charm.

I've just installed this hack...at first I had the same problem as mentioned above, but not selecting a city did the trick for me...the first time if you select a city it does nothing, then do it again without selecting a city and hit 'save changes'...it worked for me, don't know why...

that's not a problem. That is a double step. First you select a city, then you save ALL your settings

is there a way to make the default forecast location hidden or print the default city on registration? The way I have it now is an editable box with the number value in it. People could change it without even knowing what to do in there. It displays the description: Default location is Miami. You can change it later on your profile. And below I have that box with the city code. I'd like to hide that box.

I also had to delete Dutch language so English becomes the default. Besides it was not getting updated from the main submit button at registration. I think it's cool to have the presets, such as display in forum even if they change it during registration selection. It's just the city code ...

This is a phpadmin limitations. Do the insert at the command line or, do it little by little, as the memory allowed by phpadmin cannot handle that size.

That hack is very easy to install. The only support that someone would need would be to have the hack writer install it for you.

Hi, I worked two day's now to get your very nice hack into my board but I can't seem to get it work, I managed to fill de database but I do not see anything in my UserCP? Can you help me please?

I want to add that after installing this hack Nobody can register anymore, during the registration there are some forcast fields obligated but there are no dropdowns?

Since I installed this hack, whenever I add a profile field Single-Line Text Box editable hidden, the weather select (location) button displays. I believe it is because you have code in there that tells that box to change into a select button for weather, but that does it for ALL.

If you're referring to the index page add-on you can just change the .css URL in your FORUMHOME template to that of your forum's style sheet... but that doesn't look very good.

That is an issue really... especially for darker styles or those that use certain flourescent colour combinations.

You could also consider taking the code from the .css file (for this hack) and adding that code to the CSS in your admin cp style options, and then just editing the colours. The way this hack currently works, I think that's the easiest option. The only thing I don't like about that is you have to use hexidecimal values. You can't just put "alt1", etc... so if you were to alter your style you'd need to manually chnage those colour settings.
This was a huge help to me. It worked wonderfully.

You dont upload the SQL file, you runb the code inside it in phpmyadmin.

forecast.sql file and the change.php script in your main vbulletin directory (./)
then run the script from your browser. When it is finished it will update the
forecast.sql file to match your system settings! After this install the forecast
database into your main forum database!

I installed this with out a hitch , We also have our system hacked up the wazzooo but if you follow the instructions and read through this entire post you will get it sorted , We are running 3.0.4 and its working fine. because the author has not been around for some time by the look of it there has not been an update to the main downloadable file , But if you go through this post you will be able to fix up any issues you had (thats what i dad).
Also if you look in your server logs and see errors like fopen() ect,ect then just make sure your have chmoded the folder includes/weather/db (the folder db) correctly.

Almost there, now when I click the final selection in locations, it takes me RIGHT back to the beginning of choosing my options in my User CP/ Weather.

Any ideas?

i did have that issue to start out with , but then i followed the upadates that were on about page 15 i think (around there) and that sorted the issue , Well what happend is i click through to my country and then city and then hit proceed it took me back to where it says save your settings , However on that page it still said no location but i hit save and bingo it had done it

In the updates for how to put it on your front page i did not like how it had been done so i just moved it and put it here . ss follows , The only thing i am miffed about is it looks for a gif file called -.gif , now buggered if i can find that image or what it is ment to be , all the details are comming up in cp and home page ok but on the cp page where it says condition there is the temp there but a nice red x which is that missing file. anybody got it or know what image that is ment to be so i can track one down thats the same. In the ss you cannot see the red x cause firefox does not display it but its there in ie.

I'm lost as to what 'update' there is. I tried looking through the threads, but there's so many different damn 'updates', I'm lost. I wish when people would say there was an update, they could post the link back to that update post especially when there are alot of posts to weed through. I'm having the same problem as above. Where you go through everything, click save, but the town does not show and is not saved.

As for the fields in the files, I have no idea where to look in the files, and in what files to look in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

WTG and I figured out that if you are an "Undeletable, unalterable user" in config.php this will not save your location.

Open config.php look for:

// ****** UNDELETABLE / UNALTERABLE USERS ******

and blank out your user number that will be there. (Probably the ONLY user number there.)

Reload config.php to your server and BLAMMO! it works.

It loks like you have missed out some edits, in one of trhe following steps:

profile.php
Phrases
Template insertions
Field numbers
This last is the most likely - did you check to see that your field#'s matched the ones in the file modifications you made ?

This is a complex hack but well worth it - please do any modifications carefully and according to the instructions - they are clear and easy to follow if you take it step by step.

Thanks, I spent all night yesterday and almost given up, but this little hint helped a lot. Now Facing only one problems. It is not showing in UserCP Profile Menu bar for some reasons. I have to figure out where I made mistake or what is missing. Any quick help is highly appreciated.


Overall a great hack and now working for me. Wondering, does this hack require Cronjobs or does it work automatically and fetch weather information we refresh a page. Anyone have information on what changes need to be done on weather_db.php for cron ?

Oh, boy this is a monster hack.

Things have changed with weather.com remote calls, too. The Auth ID format has a partnerID and license key now for xoap downloads, as this script from forecast.php is about....

At coolmon.arsware.org their weather.com vbs script has a huge legal disclaimer on it, with a warning that to use a modified weather.com access xoap script you must get a SDK and that ID and Key to legally download content from weather.com (just a reminder for site admins). This mod needs to be redone to include both for the peace of mind of site owners.

And yes, a cron job has to be setup to download weather.com details. Recommended setting is 1hr or more (since weather.com updates hourly).

All i can find is the coder asking some specific users to contact him by mail on some specific problems, after those users couldn't be helped here in the thread.

And yes it would be nice if all coders would have unlimited time to spend on supporting their unpayed work here, and also to be contact by any means. But this isn't a perfect world.

I actually found the instructions pretty good... compared to several of the other mods out there. I was doing great until I got to step-7, then I got hung up a bit until I re-read the original posting.

It looks like the weather hack works great on a forum that is an original install, but if one of us added a new user profile field (I had added one for employer information) then it threw off the fields and we get that error where you can't save the data.

My Forecast Display Type is defaulted to field6 (the instructions say it should be field5) and I modded the profile.php tp reflect field6-10 instead of 5-9 but it still won't save the city data.

Is there anyplace else besides profile.php where the fields needed to be changed?

Or better yet - is there any way to change the assigned field# on the User Profile Field Manager in the admmin area? I tried deleting the older added profile fields but the field#s did not change.

I fiddled with mysql long enough & renamed userfield & profilefield (profilefieldid) structure to correct the fields to read field5 thru field9. I also updated the code as per why-not's post #114 on https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=67084&page=8&pp=15 (http://). This is the tricky part... I tried selecting the settings and it still did not update, until I hit "save changes" twice.

Now - is there any way to have this automatically come on for every member? I think it would be used and appreciated more if it appeared on the bottom of the main forum page, with a default setting and location, and then the member can go into the usercp and customize it. This would solve my mod to have to do the initial "double submit" to get it to start up. Once it starts it updates great ( I have my cron updating every 30 minutes).

Can a default be set up? Also - can other cities be added? I'm living in a suburb of a major city, where the towns are 50,000+ but they are not on the list... at the same time small towns with less than 1000 people are listed!

I'm just adding the following info to this thread in case someone else like me comes looking for at and it's unlikely to be an issue for most users of this hack.

IF you have this hack installed AND you are still using VB 3.0.x AND you are running mySQL 4.1.x ... database dumps (backups) will be corrupted because of a character set issue. I have just experienced this myself after changing hosts on the weekend and it's taken me most of the day to track down the problem. Signs of this problem are various "invalid argument for foreach ()" statements on any page that allows weather settings, the set location will no longer be configured, and the radio buttons for setting the display type (F or C) will be missing entirely.

Unfortunately it's an easy fix. You will need to fix up the data field in the userfield table under "display type" and field9 in the profilefield table. If you run into this issue and can't figure out how to repair it just drop me a PM and I'll try to give you a hand if I'm available.

there is a mod elsewhere called vbweather but to be honest it doesnt get used like you would think. I had it on a weather forum and it just wasn't used - it got voted off by the members.

Best to pick a city local to you and use weather.com feeds direct to your site.
