I am wondering what the differences are (if any) to the two different hacks?
Does one preform better than the other.. is one more stable.. more features? etc.

Why not try them out for your self
OR checkout any one of the threads that have been about the same topic 5 times before this one :)

vbindex has a built-in shoutbox. vbadvanced doesn't.
vbindex has collapsible boxes like vbulletin, vbadvanced by default doesn't.
vbadvanced has good modules for integration with v3 articles, vbindex (to my knowledge) doesn't.
vbadvanced has an easy-to-use weather module, vbindex (to my knowledge) doesn't.
If you want to see two examples on the same site (and you're quick about it), you can see vbadvanced cmps at http://asiansinc.com
And you can see vbindex at google's cached version of that page: http://216.239.41.104/search?q=cache:H9futpfiiMUJ:asiansinc.com/+asians&hl=en
Hope this helps.
