It's a great hack once you customize it and remove some of the cpu/bandwidth hogging features. I had to remove the license check feature since all of our users and servers are intranet (internal) and have no outside internet access. I can't wait for the next version to see what it includes. Even better since I run my own local servers, I'm interested in the Jabber Server very much! As-is, this hack is a server cpu killer!

Support Can Not Be Given For This Hack
My guess the answer to your question is No. I've removed this from my Board hoping to find a way to solve the cpu killer built into it. I guess getting help on the Jabber Server won't happen, so when I have the time I'll try re-writing this one from the ground up and release it.

right first of all to use it you would need full root control of your server so you be albe to install the edited jabber server.
next you have to edit a file that comes with the exe what basicly fills in the server info when the settings on the exe is loaded, this saves having to try and make your users understand what they got to fill in. make a zip with all the messenger files in it and upload to your server.
do a temp edit on vb to add th bit to the user zip.
tell your users its there then they just go to usercp what on first time of loading sets up there jabber username from there board name but pulling any gaps or things like #~* out of there names, then they just download the zip you uploaded and unzip the file to a fplder on there pc and just run the exe and login useing there forums password and jabber id.
not a matter of cost because we never do stuff for a cost its a matter of being able to put it here telling people how to install it and being albe to give support all im not able to do right now.
Hey you mind sharing? im whilling to pay :) and im sure by working on it ill be able to make it work plz :banana:

1) add the following java to the header:
<script language="Javascript1.3">
function launchbbm()
{
s001 = window.open("index.php?func=m_frameset", "", "width=233, height=450, address=no, toolbar=no, status=yes");
location.href="../index.php";
}
</script>
then where every you want your link add the link like this:
<a href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="launchbbm()">your link</a>
or any other type of link you want be it a img or what main thing is that the link stops as:
href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="launchbbm()">
because thats calling the java.
2) not me personaly because im to busy to support this hack but yes it can be done if someone feel's like it.
3) yes but again someone else will have to do it.
4) not really not with out doing alot of recoding and basicy aking the hack again.
5) no because it use's vb's cookies and user info.
i could be wrong about some points but like i say people are free to help out with this hack.
Just a note for newbies- You must add the javascript to the "headinclude" template for your forum, and you have to edit the code to reflect the proper path to your forum or else all you will get is your forum main page when you click the link.

Got it running perfectly on my forum. http://forum.yeix.com
managed to correct most coding errors, i find that it needs cookies to run you so you have to have "Remember Me" checked when you enter the forum, so it reverts to that cookie and logs you in :D
Just need to edit the look of the login of the index page now and should be sailing.
Thanks for the hack :D

I've found if I use the vb3.inc.php provided by PitchouneN64ngc, there are no login/cookie issues at all. One other thing I did is to add the javascript popup link to the user CPANEL via the USERCPSHELL template; this makes it so the only way you even see the link or can access the BB Messenger is to be registered and logged in to the forums, so when you click that link, the messenger starts right up, you never see the login page. It also is very easy to customize this feature to match your forums, including the logo. Just create a new logo, making it 150x44 pixels, call it "logo.jpg" and upload it to the folder /bbmessenger/style/images/ (I know this is basic stuff here but it helps those who are less experienced to make this a great feature)
I have this installed on both my forums and the members love it.

The only people who show as "online" when using the IM are those who have signed into the IM. It's not going to show users who are just on the forum, it will show users on the forum who are also logged into the the IM program...

Hey all,
I am the guy who originally wrote bbmessenger with Carl, as Carl will confirm.
bbmessenger was originally for Carl's site, but during development Carl decided it would be nice to release it to the community, so we took on the comprimise of running it via continutally polling mySQL to make up for the lack of widespread PHP process communication systems. This comprimise, however processor heavy, let it run on shared hosts. The combination of javascript, problems with proxies, and this troubled me. You cannot do multi user chat via these methods.
We then set about to modify an open source Jabber(tm) server to authenticate off vBulletin, which I seem to remember was a PHP file and about 100 lines of extra C to the core jabber server. I think there are screenshots of a client further back in this thread running off this setup, with username boardusername@domainname.com which Carl posted. This solved the problems of connections, proxies, etc. but required the user to download a client. I am aware there are bbmessenger type clients for Jabber, but they are also processor intensive. Running a jabber server requires a shell account where you can set the server going and forget about it.
I like this solution, but I would like to propose another:
I am currently considering rewriting bbmessenger, this time as a Java client and server pair. This would need you to run a server process on your hosting or shell account. The client would be more compatible than the javascript version, as Java is a lot more standardised than javascript (no DOM/IE/layers problems). Java is not HTML, so the possibilities for changing the style are limited without digging into source code, but it is possible to allow for changing colours and images. I can see this realistically taking two to three months to do, as I am a very busy guy, but I can see the rewards being great, I am thinking group chat etc.
any... comments? ;)

nice post tom, as i said on msn i personaly feel java is better because the jabber frontend clients are somewhat basic and look poo where with java it can be made nice and be able to let people make it match its colours.
if we could pull abit of vb's css to make up the colours ot the client and then a editable image file for the use of the persons site logo/banner.
SoloX
01-30-2005, 09:33 PM
if my opinion counts, I would like to suggest staying with Jabber. The clients can be customized easily and running a jabberd is easy as well. Java clients as you said cannot be customized a lot in their look and feel.
PLUS .. there is an option to churn out an integrated IM client which does vbulletin messaging as well as others (AOL, MSN, etc). The open source clients already do all that. We just need to provide back end connectivity to VB.
just my 2 pennies ..

Installed on the new 3.0.7 and works perfectly in Internet Explorer. But in Firefox the font colours in messages don't work, the font colour bar opposite the font names is only next to Verdana and the cursor over Send is the pipe (as when you place your cursor over text) and not the usual "hand" type.
Thank you for this add-on. Just what I was looking for.
just installed this and I am testing it had a user send a message and did not know it until I clicked on his name
Is there away that it would have a popup box that shows the message or did I do something wrong

I know the response to this but I will post it anyway. I have made a program that does what this program does and more. Java based. Its a file you download. (Program) chat friends ect. in other words when you run this program you dont need to be on the bulletin board. that powerfull.
It was not made for vbulletin it was made for a differnt customer. If you guys are intrested I can make it for vb but I need funds. I have seen responses from things requested like this before so I know the answer.
Just thought I say it.
It would cost around 700$ to get done. (to pay the programmer) and it would be relased free of charge.

@t3media,
Why do you have to hijack someone elses hack thread fo this?
If you want to get attention for your own programms, simply open a thread for yourself.
A lot of the posts i have seen you make in the last period are pulling down other peoples work, or their lack of support. What is the reason you're doing this? Try bringing forward your own strong points (like posting your own work) instead of highlighting other people weak spots.

(to pay the programmer) and it would be relased free of charge.

whats the link of the program?

if my opinion counts, I would like to suggest staying with Jabber.
Jabber would be great but that involves installing the server and other components. I find that kind of administration challenging. Have any of you actually set it up or on a virtuate private server?

in the file /bbmessenger/style/messenger.html.php
find:
window["chat_{$VAR["sitecode"]}_" + id].focus();
and change it to:
// window["chat_{$VAR["sitecode"]}_" + id].focus();

Working nicely here, have it set up using the navbar js so it pops up straight away. Also added the relevant <if> tags to make it visable to members only. Great piece of coding, since we have an unlimited hosting package I have no complaints at all with regards to resource utilisation. Members love it, particularly for keeping in touch with admins when they need help.

Is it me, or does this weigh heavily on your server? I have a lower end box running my site, money, money, money, and I'm willing to upgrade it. i jsut want to know if the slow down when I open this is resources, or something I may have done wrong.
It does seem to work fine.
Dennis
PS - I'm also in favor of the Java system mentioned by Tom.

Do you use a prefix for your tables? ($tableprefix in your ./includes/config.php) If yes, modify the table as this (search your wrong query before):
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread AS thread
I know that this post is old but I did not see a solution that addressed what was causing the problem.
Database error in vBulletin 3.0.8:
Invalid SQL:
