Okay, this is my first released hack here on vb.org, been using it in my private forum's with vB2 and finally, I've upgraded this hack for vB 3.0.1.


Introduction:
vB pager is a new refined & light paging system that enables authorized users to exchange short & quick messages amongst each other. Unlike the regular private messaging system, the paged user is guaranteed to read your message & reply to it (if you choose this option) instantly & easily.

Features:

You won't need to log on your CP to send a message, just click on the pager icon next to the name of the user you'd like to page! (See Screenshots)
Switch the paging system on or off anytime you wish!
Specify who gets to use the paging system by Usergroup, or even User IDs to send messages to your forum members.
vB Pager users can send pager messages to members of the forum and/or non-registered guests from the WhoisOnline's page.
Optional Anonymity: you can choose to hide your username when paging another user on the forum, & define which Usergroup or User IDs can utilize this option.
Restrict the number of characters in each message: you can restrict the use of this paging system to short messages only by simply typing in the maximum number of characters that can be used. The window comes in with a built-in character counter to enable the user to keep track of the characters typed.
Logs of all incoming and outgoing pager messages member has, can be viewed and deleted.
Logs of all incoming and outgoing pager messages (Deleted and Unread messages) for all members can be viewed and deleted through the Admin CP.
vB Pager 2.0.4 Updates:
- All popup windows are DHTML, so there should be no problem with popup killers.
- Logs of all incoming and outgoing pager messages (Deleted and Unread messages) for all members can be set to be Hard deleted, as a new option from vB Pager options in Admin CP.
- Many bug fixes.

vB Pager 2.0.5 Updates:
- Bug Fix: Getting blank messages from guest.

Looks good but won't install or uninstall. This has to do with table prefix. When i install it, it alters table but then an error because of the missing table (prefix). When i uninstall it won't let me do that because of missing tables. :(

Can you give a list commands to remove them manualy from mysql so i can install it again with the right prefix?

are you using any kind of "popup stopper"?

admincp/index.php should not have any problem, cos it's only a small mod, which adds vB Pager's links to it!

That's weird, I have been testing this for the past 5 days, and never had that kind of problem :ermm:

wasn't able to make it work... it install mostly ok, but have a LOAD of errors i had to correct myself... not all table_prefix are placed in the admin, the legend in the admin is not shown correctly... is a mess in the message admin too, maybe you'd be better to rework it to suite vB3 protocol.

was not able to make the popups work either... you did not used the protocol for templates, globalized, and code structure... looks like coded for vb2...

also, the detect for redirecting to the index.php when not in a popup, desable this, because it'S not detecting in new browsers like safari or mozilla... so that's why many are going to hit the index instead of the real popup...

also... instead of having a global template for all the features of the pager, why not build a single template for each page displayed ?!... this would be easier to manipulate, and to load... ;)

btw, chat functions are just great, don't think i'm bad, it's just that many errors only occurs because php is not written properly.

if you want someone to play with it and clean, i can do it by the week-end, and even add some functions in the game! (even add a button for arcade challenges in the chatbox, etc)

NuclioN, I have installed this hack on a fresh vb3.0.1, without any installed hack, execpt for HTL Installed, and I can not guarantee that this hack will work with your already hacked files of VB3.

usergroup ID will overtake the user ID setting, so you don't need to sepecify any user ID if that user's from the same usergroup you've already specified.

if i'm taken the job to update, i'll take the TEXT version of the install and update every details... there is a load of malfunctions, even for the guys that tested it today, because many features are not working because of improper variable calls... so even the guys that have tested it will have to upgrade and see more features in it... ;) :ninja:

Ok, [Normal] vB Pager 2.0.0 has been updated with the table prefix thing, hope it would go smooth now.

that way we could avoid the popup killers .....

many members have popup killlers and when a member
sends another member a message that has one of these
there message never gets read leaving them to think
there message was ignored ....

maybe even have a switch in the user cp to switch from regular popups to DHTML poupup .... also to have a notice at the bottom or the messages telling there message may not be read if the other member has popups blocked....

Not much i guess. You can send a message to guests which is cool. The sms and this pager can work together without problems.

i'm reworking the tool by this week-end, to make a new release by monday... i think i will have that dhtml thing in it anyway...

for now, anybody is free to TRY this hack, but the next release will be built with a different structure for the template and lang files, so you'll be able to install a better version... no HTL, but the HTML version will be easier to understand, with less code changes... so for the ones that installed it, i hope you backed up !!!

to fix this I just used the code from the original online.php. in this section. I can not send messages to the guests but it works for members and thats all I really care about,. would stlll like to find out the sizing issue.

I don't know, but I'm mixing pager 2.0 code with dhtml. For now user receive dhtml pager, but I'm working for the other features. If the hack will work and Pager author allow me, I will share it.

the popup window is not big enough fo it's contents and the buttons are half hidden and sometimes completly hidden! - and there are no scrollbars

how do i make it so it fits? - see picture for example...

Restrict a usergroup sending pagers to only one group. Example only allow groups 11,10 and 5,6 to use the pager. (10, 11 being custom groups) and have 10 and 11 just send pages to groups 5 and 6 and not to other groups 10 and 11 members)

In other words members in 10 and 11 could page admins and super mod's but not other members

I installed this on our board today. Seems to work fine. I like it. But I have one serious problem.

On our hompage portal, the listing that is returned for active users now includes the icon, a mouseover that says 'page this user', but the link on this page only incorrect ("www.drsol.info/" as opposed to "www.drsol.info/forums").

I don't want to uninstall, but I need to help canning the pagerlink/icon on the portal page or fixing the link.

The paragraph with the online users is using a variablr created and returned by a vBAdvanced module called 'onlineusers.php'. It's fetching user data that's been modified by this hack, but I don't know enough to consider trying to modify this module to either fix the link or eliminate it.

Can anyone help? Please?! :nervous:

well ive been back to the thread as it was in beta section, and theres quite a few ppl in there complaining of the same error...eg.....IE shutting down.

it seems to happen when members are recieving pages, not sending them.

all the members using IE so far on my board are reporting the same error.

windows pops up with the dreaded"internet explorer has encountered an error, and is closing down"..or whatever it is.

after disabling the hack in the admin cp, the board works fine.

as i said before, its all over the posts while it was in beta section, is there any idea as to what it might be???

i think it was displaying an error with "mshtm.dll" or something.

I haven't had problems with IE shutting down, but,some people are getting the persistent pager box still (can't close a pager box). For some reason, the same individuals are getting this error; not sure if something is amiss in the database for these people. But otherwise, it seems to be working well for us.

I have to turn it off, unfortunately. I've been using this hack for quite a while, and, for some reason, I, the admin, have no problem turning off the pager boxes. But others in my forums cannot. I'm not sure if it's the security settings in the browser (we compared them, and we can't seem to find what might be causing the "persistent pager box", or, if it has to do with the fact that I, as admin, can erase these boxes. For some strange reason, if I log in as one of my members, I can erase his or her persistant pager box, even though they can't. Maybe it's a cookie issue. Why I can have the pager function normally, and others in my forum can't, is beyond me.

For now, it gets turned off. Until someone can figure out what's wrong with this.

Hmm.. we use Mozilla Firefox and IE. No problems with this hack on our board.

I think it`s an individual setting on the users pc - IE. :squareeyed:

I installed the hack (3.0.3). Everything appeared to go perfectly. All components appear to work.

EXCEPT:

The messages never get "delivered", so the recipient never gets a pager popup. The messages show in your pager outbox, as well as in the AdminCP log, but the recipient never gets it.

One more thing: The users woulod like a selectable x-y position for the popups, rather than hard-coded. One user (using IE6) can't use the pager because for some odd reason, the popup appears almost off his page, and he can't drag it.

I seem to be having a problem. The link to the inbox and stuff on the forum home isn't working right. It will pop up but it will say "no page can be displayed" or something like that. Then I refreshed it and found out it was going to the wrong url.

$vboptions[bburl]/pager.php makes it go to: http://127.0.0.1/forum/forum/pager.php

If I take out the $vboptions[bburl] part it will go to: http://127.0.0.1/pager.php

If I make it /pager.php it goes makes it http://127.0.0.1/forum/pager.php but it still doesn't bring up anything but that page can't be displayed error. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

If you get "Page not found", then your php file is in the wrong place. It should be in your FORUM directory with your other user-level vB files.

ive checked, and re checked the installation, and the IE shutdown is STILL a problem.

-rwxrwxrwx

Where the first set is the file owner's permissions, the second set is the group permissions, and the 3rd set is the "world" permissions. The RWX's relate to the octal values like this:

-421421421

So 755 = Owner: rwx, group, rx, word, rx

If you don't have EXECUTE permission set, you cannot run a script/program.

syntax: "chmod 755 filename"

You can see the r/w permissions by executing an "ls -l filename" command.

Animate, you need to REFERSH your browser page, not hit BACK. And I use it with Firefox, and it wolrs perfectly, as long as I do what I just said.

Maurice, you need to establish a direct telnet/SSH session with your server, CD to the directory the file is in, and execute the "LS -L" command like I specified above (be sure to use ALL LOWER CASE ;)) Once you see your file's permission list, you execute the CHMOD 755 FILENAME command (again, the CHMOD part must be in LOWER CASE). You need to be the owner of the file or superuser to be allowed to change the permissions.

Hullo, Great hack I am loving just a few Ideas and a few errors i am getting...

Error 1 - Once in awhile it takes a bit for the page to get to the person but it does get their.

Error 2 - Once in awhile I get a page and it will not close at all......... and I noticed when that happens it show the Javascript Error in the taskbar in IE.....


Idea 1 - I noticed someone had a problem with the popup placement so i thought maybe you could go to www.dynamicdrive.com and get that Image Drag code and work it into so the pop-up can be dragged anywhere on the page..

Yes that is the only way to get ride of them....... This has been happening since i installed it..... I have checked all my mods and it was done correctly and it just has some kinda of error... One user was saying that she could not close one of her messages. I deleted this message, and she got the same message. Her messages were not showing up as read either.

This never occurred on my test forum I created to test for bugs. I then managed to narrow it down to her being 'invisible'. I think that may have something to do with it?

I've noticed that this can happen if you're not using the Default vB template, or are using some of the other templates out there. Not ALL of them mind you.

UAE, I think most of us are having users report the 'persistant pager box'. I have around 2 users who report such a bug to me, and I really have no clue what's causing it, nor how to replicate it. It's not happening to everybody. When I delete the message from the AdminCP they end up receiving the next message which also continues to pop up.

Also, I was going to install 2.0.4 so I removed everything I had (which already was 2.0.4) and when I started the install again I could not get past the first page because it was duplicating Mysql tables. Any help is appreciated.

One minor bug, if you want to call it that. But a easy fix. I had a friend go to my forum as a guest. I wanted to try out Paging to a guest to see how it works. In playing around, he kept entering text in the reply box with out any carriage returns. When I went to see his reply, the reply pop up ran off the screen to the right as where I coundn't see or get to the 'Close' button. Not that this is likely to happen offen, or at all, but a problem as you can't close the pop up. I just went and edited the vbpager_popup template, and in the thead tag and the one td tag, aligned them to the left. See attachment (this is after the fix).

Ahh... I see what's causing the "1969" issue. In the user table-pager field, somehow this is getting set to a value of -1. I had 2 users with the problem, setting this back to 0 resolved it. I'm an SQL hack, so I have no idea how to keep this from happening. Anyone have a thought?

Ahh... I see what's causing the "1969" issue. In the user table-pager field, somehow this is getting set to a value of -1. I had 2 users with the problem, setting this back to 0 resolved it. I'm an SQL hack, so I have no idea how to keep this from happening. Anyone have a thought?Is thre a fix for this as of yet?

I had to disable this as I was getting the IE crash.. It was the same DLL that was listed here.

Bad thing is, some users didn't know how to get past the error, as they would lose their IE as soon as they hit the forum.

Nice hack. We've been using it for the admins to quickly communicate with each other when no messanger program is available. Just one thing bothers me from a webdesigner's point of view.

It looks fugly in Mozilla Firefox (no round corners, no scroll bar from the get go) compared to Internet Explorer (normally its the other way around :paranoid: ). Is there a proper stylesheet for this or a fix that it looks the same in Firefox (or a bit more decent), cause its very annoying.

If it is not possible to get it to be the same, could someone please hardcode the source so that at least the borders of the input field are white, in stead of just the bottom left corner? I can do it in CSS, but that would change all tables that make use of this style.

i installed this hack but never got it to work proper.. wished it did.. but oh well!
anyways i ran the un-installer and now i'm getting a database error:

You didn't remove a modification to one of your php-files.

Since the table is deleted by teh uninstaller, this will give an error.

Make sure you undo all changes made during installation.

i ve done everything 100% correct,i use a style that have been recently released in vbulletin.com,i use vb 3.0.7.

i ve uploaded the image into /forum/images/buttons but the image dont show next to the user names.the pager works perfect,only this little problem.Imagine 100 persons inside the forum,and after their names shows "send blabla" it makes 20 lines!!!
how can i solve this issue?
EDIT2: problem solved,i had to put the image on my custom skin images folder!!

OK, I think have the fix for the infamous guest pages dated 1969...

This seems to be caused by the user:pager field getting set at -1

So, I went to my database and changed the field type for pager in the user table from INT to tinyint

INT type fields support numberical values from -2,147,483,648 to 2,147,483,647

tinyint type fields support numerical values from 0 to 255

This should eliminate the weird setting of value -1

I added the code to navbar exactly how instructions say and there is not a trace of this in or near my navbar ..

Also for some reason this hack is not working. You can click on the pager in currently active users, a pager screen pops up, you send but members never recieves .. Does every id need to be added in order for member to be able to use this . Or could that be left default and the user groups be listed instead ?

vB Pager 2.0.5 has been released with a bug fix for those who are getting blank messages from guests.

All should upgrade, it's a little change and should be easy to follow, just download the file and open UPGRADE.txt and do the changes.

hey, as for vB Pager v3.0.0 it won't be ready till I get back from my summer vacation, which is starting next week :)

I'll be having an upgrade file to v3.0.0, so you can try this one for now, and it's not that hard to uninstall if things went wrong.

This is a very nice hack! I did a fresh install and everything work perfectly. I play with it back and forth just like Instan Messenger :)

But 2 things I want to be fixed tho.......

1st. Can you make the pop-up window box movable? I can't move the window box unless I scroll up and down the forum.

2nd. when i scroll the forum up and down and the popup window is overlayed by the
Forum Jump or Sorted By , Sort Order....ect. It just get overlayed by all the dropdown menu.

There is nothing wrong with this code, and the error you're getting has nothing to do with it, this code should go into global.php, and the error you're getting is either you did not add the modification required in funictions.php or you got the code wrong.

please do recheck the file change edits.

OK so the install went really smooth and I had minimal issues, thatw erent my own doing anyway.... ( like dumb me not running the installer... doh!!!)

But now i have the icons where they should be, the box pops up when I click on it, I type and click send and no one ever gets there message. We have been chatting on messangers so we can know when ppl are sending and even I as admin cant send to them and have them get them. I also have nothing in my logs on the bord or in the acp. I have Usergroup IDs set so that all my members can use the pager and no one gets them.

I checked and rechecked the install and everything looks like it should. I read through the whole 16 pages of this thread and dont really see anyone with my issue.

Am I missing a schedules task or SQL query????

hey....finally i got it working...

but i got some IE issue.......everytime i click on the user icon to send the vbpager....i got error, and i have to close the IE :-(

I tried it both ways and it didn't seem to make a difference so maybe it doesn't matter.

either way is fine....make sure you edit the right file....

this one you edit in folder includes/functions.php
not in functions_online.php

i guess you edit the wrong one....

The IM is actually working but there's about a 5 min delay, is that normal?

I checked both files and all edits are where they are supposed to be as far as I can tell. My member's profile pages are still broken. The little icons and all are there now and the girl I sent 2 IM's too did get them but like 5 mins later.

I'm not giving up yet! Keep the suggestions coming :)

We've been using it for two months now with no problems. Our board is 3.0.7 with some other hacks.

Well. This hack took longer then my VBChat and IBproArcade combined hahaha. But it works super!!!!!!! My only request would be, to let users turn on and off the pager through their CP.

I want to report, many users from my board, had reported, that the Pager makes an explorer fault, and then closes.. i don't believe that, but since yesterday, makes me too, the same error.. i must logon on firefox, and disable completely the pager system, and of course, set to pager = 0 in user table in db to ALL.

The error apears randomly ONLY in Internet Explorer 6 in Windows XP.

Actually:
user1 -> page -> user2
user2 -> page -> user1 (and here the chains cut)

My mod:
user1 -> page -> user2
user2 -> page -> user1
user1 -> page -> user2 (infinitly)
and i disabled.. the anonymous messages (let's set usergroups for anonymous and userids, not only userids) and disabled the check box thats allow reply.

I've also had to disable it on my forum due to the IE crashing error.

As a note, if that happens to you, you can just reload IE, and go directly to your admincp, and into the pager settings, and remove the message.

Not sure what it is. My users use the hell out of this on IE and XP, never had a single complaint.

Might be a combination of hacks?
