View Full Version : I think your guys are great BUT.....
Maybe someone can explain to me why a Coder would make a program/Hack to use then not support the work they created....I mean its like buying a car from a dealership and they will not provide a service if it breaks down, So why would someone want to download a program, that a coder was proud of, then not provide support for this...
Im asking because Im sick and tired of always downloading hack that the Coder claims they work, then they don't, then they don't provide support for it, then you as a webmaster has to spend hours to revert the hack...
IMHO I would have a set of rules to have for the site that if a coder uploads a hack, they need to support it, I mean if you were to go thru all the threads on any hack, you would see that alot of coders don't support their creations!!! so why promote it then!
I would say atleast 80% plus of webmaster of sites don't know programing from right to left and they come here to download a product that should work without problems, then out of the blue, no support!!!...that is just a waste of time and "Money" for some site....
Im not trying to be out line on this, but I really feel there needs to be a set of standards a site like this needs to enforce, which will show to the members who register or buy the product of vB that they will get the best of the best for their sites!!!
Just my 2 cents!

You can not say that someone has to support something what he made for free, if he/she want to give support you have to be happy and else, well, you can use it en must do something yourself or don't use it. Everybody is free to do what he like.

This is a cross forum post. You posted this one in the lounge aswell.
Anyway, here is my reply:
Not even two cents.
What you pay for is vB not the hacks, vB.org can't force people to provide support because the coders are providing FREE hacks.
I have written 5 hacks so far, which are quite large and are directed towards chess sites, but I sell them, and provide support. If you want support that badly then you will probably be better off posting in the request section and paying the coder for their work.
And to add to this thread:
Remember that time is money and be glad that so many programmers gave so much of their time for free.

I think that's like being giving an inch and wanting the mile. I know there have been hacks that I had trouble with, well only one, but the coder said he wouldn't provide support, so I got another member here to help me.
No one owes us anything... be grateful for what we have been giving, and except nothing more. Also, there are people with allot of hacks they have giving us, so to provide support to all the hacks would be extremely tough and time consuming.
Besides if you are new to this, just give it time. It took me a bit to get use to things, but frankly when I get a hack that doesnt seem to work, I mess with it and get it to work, a great learning experience it is.
So just smile, and be happy because the coders don't owe us anything, and one more thing. If I was a coder and I submitted my hacks here, I would be offended and not want to because I feel like everyone is acting like they pay for the hacks when reality is you don't. So just appreciate what you get, and if you can't get a hack, ask members who have got it working if they will help you out.

i agree to the points of not owing us anything but heres another point
if they say they are going to support the hack then do it
if they are not going to then say it ample opportunity is given
thing is not everyones a coder and by saying they will support the hack we put our trust in the coder
and our websites are on the line if we get it wrong because of the hack
if the hack said there would be no support of course that would be our own risk then
but when a coder says they will support it and then doesn't thats the main problem
because no one cares if our sites go down so when a coder says they will support the hack i put my trust in it
and obviosly to someone that can't code php this support is desperatly needed
i mean even i reconsider installing a hack if it says no support will be given

Totally agree!
I only expect support if it is promised and then not on an immediate basis. I downloaded a hack once and had the biggest trouble trying to get it to work, luckily the person who created was great to provide support even I coudln't believe. Heck I had to of emailed him atleast 3 maybe 4 times in one week and he replied almost instantly in each event. In the end I told him how glad I was that he provided the support one usually only gets when they've bought something.
Basically, if support is promised then give it but people you honestly can't expect on the minute support from these people, they are codeing these hacks for free. If you want more hacks then they have to write them which pretty much means they can't sit here all day waiting to see if someone needs support on a previous hack.;)
Sorry guys. I did not mean to start anything here...I was just upset due to a few hacks which the coder said they would support, then nothing!
I was just venting today...I have been working on 3 sites all weekends install then uninstalling etc etc....You know what I mean...
Again...Thanks to the Coders who support what they create!!! Job Well Done....and thanks for the great hacks....

Since - Feb 15. 2002 for me ..... It's simple, set some time per day / week and learn or pay someone to do it for you.
There are tons of great people @ this site and other sites that will love to help you out @ no cost even if it is not their "add-on". Just have to ask, search and read.
PS: Don't forget to backup :D

You should be thankful for what we have here. I have had a few of the same problems that you have had, but that is nothing compared to trying to install phpbb hacks. That is ridiculous. Hey -- you get what you pay for. ;)
