View Full Version : Simple tip for boards with many styles
This may not be a good tip, but it's very useful and reduces time for people hacking boards with many styles. This lets you mass modify/add templates without messing with the 'Master Style' that you can view in debug mode.
Create a main style. (note: this style does not have to be selectable)
I'm going to use 'Default Style' for this example
Create it so that your styles will be like this:
Default Style
-Style 1
--Child of Style 1
-etc
-etc
-etc

Ive been doing that with my newest project. I find that haveing a default master style just for my template edits makes it easy to add child forums with a different look to them.

you shouldn't do so, as the master style itself gets overwritten with each version upgrade...

lol I did that totaly by accident. when i added my first style i made it a child of the defualt and so when i went to install my first template modification, i found totaly by accident, that i only needed to edit the template to the default and not the rest. :) Definatly made for a happly surprised newbie to all of this.

it's only useful with custom templates, not modified I think

hmm, i don't think so, we don't have much custom templates, but a lot of modified ones, and it's very usefull

then when child styles' templates got modified and you have a lot of child styles you still need to edit them one by one. My child styles are unique one by one, I can hardly edit one parent for all.

It's only not very useful if every template in the child styles is unique.
If not, its still useful for any template that is not unique.

of course, if every childstyle is totally unique, then it wouldn't help.
It depends on the situation of course, but for example here on vb.org it is very usefull for normal templates
