Apperance Name, NOT username

Hello, how about a HACK where users are able to change what they appear as, but NOT change their username. I've installed the CHANGE USERNAME hack, but I'm looking for something more like easily changing the apperance name. THX!

Add a profile field and use that instead of displaying the username wherever the username appears.
