This is an awsome script. GJ btw.
I tried using the same stats you have on the portal on a sidebar that shows everywhere on the board excpet the portal. I found out that I had to include
functions.php and stats.php in the global.php file and it worked fine, but when I do that, the stats block on the portal dosen't show, anyone know why/

I was using vbadvanced along with vb 3.0.0. I have now upgraded to 3.0.5. I installed vbadvanced CMPS and chose to import my old settings. It seems to be slightly messed up however. The pull down menus don't work and there may be an image problem. Can you take a look at my site and see what I may have done wrong? Thanks

Thats the same error I had when editing the file in Dreamweaver.
Re-edit it using a text editor (Notepad, Wordpad) or something like Editplus, using your original (unmodified) copy.
Reload it to the server.
That'll fix it, I'll wager.

This can be caused by the domain and cookies. See vbadvanced.com for solutions. I've seen this on boards that have the forums installed in a sub-directory below the portal.

We are trying to add multiple last post blocks in VBAdvanced if anyone knows how are where please point us in the right directionI believe you can do this by creating multiple modules that each pull from a different forum.
I am trying to register on the other board, but I am not receiving the validation e-mail. I have already checked the e-mail address. Hmm.

possible dumb question..
can I configure it to allow admins who post news items to use HTML, but not allow people who respond to use it? vB only seems to allow HTML on a forum by forum level.. has this added any ability to do that? I really need more control display-wise over the news content.

what's the diff?
http://www.vbadvanced.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5103
vBa CMPS v1.0.1 is now available in the 'Programs / Scripts' section of the site. This version is mostly a maintenance release to fix all currently known bugs.
There are, however, a few new options. A new 'Global vBadvanced Settings' group has been added which contains three new settings - 'Header Replacements', 'Navbar Replacements', and 'Footer Replacements'. These options will allow you to enter a list of filenames that may be in your header, navbar, and footer that need to have your forum's URL added in front of the name. These new options should prove to be useful for those who have installed hacks and need to replace the filename for these, or for those who have installed a style in which the default navbar links have been moved to the header. These will also be global options for all future vBadvanced products and will affect vBa CMPS 1.0.1, vBa Links 1.0.1 (to be released shortly), and vBa Gallery RC3 (also to be released shortly).
The last new setting is the 'Portal Output Global Variables' option. This option will be useful for those who have added other hacks to vBulletin and need to add the variables from those hacks to the print_portal_output() function's global list. Now instead of having to edit any files, you may simply add the variable name in this setting.
For those who wish to upgrade, you will find upgrade instructions at the bottom of the readme file included in the new zip package.

utlamer, SamirDarji: Check your settings to global.php to make sure you got this changes correctly. If you're sure that the changes to global.php are correct then check your modules to make sure that the template names are still present.

How do I get the portal to show up at www.the-everquest-vault.com instead of at www.the-everquest-vault.com/cmps_index.php?You have to rename the file and rename the file for your forum index. And then you have to change the name in the options for the forum index to whatever to changed it to.
For my sites I renamed the index.php to forum.php and then renamed the cmps_index.php to index.php. Hope this helps.

I suspect this would work if my board was in the same directory as the portal itself, but my board is in a different directory. Like, my portal is in the root directory, and the board is in the community directory. So this being the case, how would I go about getting the portal to show up at www.the-everquest-vault.com? I've already renamed cmps_index.php to index.php.

can someone tell me why I am not able to get my drop down menus to work for the navbar? Once installed, they didn't work on index.php
Also, I created another template ($footer2) and took out the $footer variable (because it was conflicting with another hack), yet when I put in $footer2 in adv_index template, it doesn't show up. Am I missing something?
If I can't get this working, I'll be forced to remove the Jelsoft and vBAdvanced copyright notice because of the hack conflict (sidebar hack).
KW802
02-26-2005, 09:18 PM
Takamine334,
For the $footer2 problem check over on vBadvanced.com -- You'll need to add the variable to your list of globals (there are a few threads on how people needed to do the same with $navbar2 for example).
If you remove the copyright notices then that'll violate both Jelsoft's and vBadvanced's license agreements. ;)

I had some problems installing it but I finally was able to fix the errors I had, but now I installed everything correcly and made a default page ($home), the cmps_index.php doesn't seem to work with me...
If I browse it I get this:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: print_portal_output() in /var/www/html/cmps_index.php on line 27
(I left the print_portal_output on default ($home) )
What did I miss ??

Choose ACP --> vBa CMPS --> Default Settings --> New Forum ID and type in the forum ID numbers that should be shown.
Also, even if you have that value specified those modules still won't show up if those forums are empty. ;)

I had something like this setup when I used phpBB forums, and im glad to see something made for VBulletin as well. I am about to install it but im curious. I have a layout for my main site that is different from my forums. I want to use my custom menu bars for like login/calender/members CP and so fourth but display the actual content on the main site. Is this difficult? I also want to have a news page but I want to use my custom news title bar above it rather than the look of my vbulletin forums. Im just curious how hard it would be to get the content out but not the actual look of the vbulletin forums.
n/m..i got it working the way i want it to. this is a great mod. http://www.thenappycat.com/ is an example of what you can do with it
Your main page is EXACTLY what I am looking for.....I am fairly new to VB and PHP ...would you be willing to share how you did this?
Awesome job indeed! Two Thumbs UP!

Is there a way to have the "latest news topics" block only pull topics from say 10 specific forums, rather than one?
Also, is there a way to add a block with links to my sponsors and affiliates?
I am new at this. You'll find a lot of help with things like this at www.vbadvanced.com.
You can make the news topics pull from multiple forums, just add the forum ids to the "News Options" under that particular page (or the default page)
You can add blocks that can do anything you imagine. It is very easy to make blocks that have banner ads and links to your sponsors. You can even integrate it with phpadsnew.
Feel free to look at my site and I'll try to help however I can.

You can customize the look of the modules in the same way you can customize vb, so I'd think that is possible.

I dont know what you mean static...

maybe you can tell me lol.
SamirDarji

What I mean by static is that you write the html, not a php, asp, cgi, or some other script. Scripts like this dynamically build the html on the fly and that's why they're so much easier to maintain.
So far looking at what you have, it does seem like you main page is static. But your main page also looks like it is already using cmps even though it isn't. Everything that you have on the main page right now could be done using cmps. And it shouldn't be too painful since you already know what you want.

Try setting up a parent-child system for your styles, or it will be hell modifying everything over and over.
Here's what I have, stock vb style is the parent. Under that is a child style where I've put all my mods/hacks. Under that I add any other styles and they inherit most of the mods. Try it and then modify only what templates need mods.

i'm sorry but can you be specific. I have no idea what you're talking about.. LoL :disappointed:haha...I've been there.
Go under Admincp-->Styles and Templates-->Style Manager-->Download/Upload Styles. I'm assuming you're using this to install the new styles. If you notice, under the Import Style XML File options, there is one towards the bottom called Parent Style. This is where you can make a new style a child of a current style.
So how do you use this? Let's say you have a default style that has all of your template mods and hacks. Instead of adding a new style as a new style, add it as a child style by making the default style the parent. By doing this, the child style will inherit a lot of the mods you've made to the parent style. You'll proabably still have to do some editing, but it will be a lot less. And if you make a change in your default style, it will update the child automatically if the child inherited the change from the parent.
You can add multiple styles this way and changes to your parent style will automatically cascade down to the children. And then only in the cases where the changes don't cascade will you have to directly edit a style.
Hope this helps.

Thank you in advance!I was actually replying to the series of posts above talking about the formatting issue, but I also have a suggestion for your problem. Check to make sure the templates used in each custom module is listed. Without these, they won't be cached and load times will increase. Also try using the stock vb style and see if the speed increases. If it does, you'll need to see what else in that particular style may be causing problems.

you can turn the avatar off within your admin panel. Just go to the vba cmps section and edit that page that has the news on, and one of the options for the news asks you if you want avatars on or off.

How do i totally remove this hack from my db and templates etc
Cheers ;)Just follow the directions in reverse. ;) The script vbacmps_install.php has an uninstall option in it and that'll remove your DBs, stock templates, etc -- for any custom templates that you manually modified/created you'll need to undo/remove them on your own. The PHP changes can be left in there but if you really want to remove everything then remove them also.

Off my head becuase I haven't used CMS for a while, but it looks as though you have put the wrong path to you server in the config.file
Usually it should looks something like this "/home/you server password goes here/public_html/forum"
With "forum" being the name of your forums folder that contains your vbulletin files. Or whatever you called it. The "password" bit in the path. Is the password you use to log-on to your server host Admin CP were you create your database etc.
But I'm just guessing becuase the error mentions your cmps_index.php file. And not your cms config file

I think 1.01 is the CMS were you add custom pages using HTML from your admin menu isn't it? More like a adding pages and menu entries for it. I've used that alongside the more fully blown CMPS and they work fine together. The 1.01 version is not really a portal. It's just a content cms if I'm right that has a menu structure on the left hand side to access the diffderent cms pages you create. Unlike the CMPS that acts as a main portal using blocks etc

Do you mean you are getting sent to your forum when you click the link in your footer? You have edited the link incorrectly in your admin settings that links to your portal page. For example if your portal file is called portal.php and it's loctated in your forums folder. Just enter the full URL leading to it in the homepage box in your admin cp
vbulletin options -> Site Name/URL/ Contact Details ->
Then in the URL Box enter the address that leads to were you want the link in the footer to point to on your forum

The best thing to do is upload the cmp_index.php to your forums folder. That way you will not have as many broken image links on your portal page, also if you make your board private the link from the portal page will take you to the correct login login page without errors like it does if placed in your root directory.
Did you include the server path in your cmp_index file like it asked you to enter. Just follow the instuctions step by stem slow. But upload both the cms_config and the cms_index file to your forums folder instead. And just use a index file in your root folder created to point to the either the portal file or the forum file using this code.

Thanks for the response bud. Kinda glad it's not just me but I hope everything is ok. :surprised:
By the way custom page content is what is normally used as the forums when you include VBa. It must be enabled if you are planning to add any modules to forums pages.
For Google adsense you should add the code to the bottom of the navbar template. That will give you ads on every page including the portal. If you want to add google to a module I believe you would need the standard template for a module and include the code where it says "add content here".
I use the first answer I gave. You can see it here http://www.askhow.net

Do NOT add Google Adsence to either the Header or Footer. If you read Google Adsence AUP they say you are not allowed to display there banner on pages such as Registration Pages etc. By adding the adsence to your footer it will be displayed on the registration pages and other pages that google say in there AUP you are not allowed to do and will breach there rules. Thats why I removed mine from the footer and used a hack instead to just display it after the last thread on the forum, and also just on the portal page.
Go read there AUP small print and you will see what I mean. You don't want to make a bit off money from there banner, only for them to say you are in breach of there AUP by having dispklayed on a registration page and other pages that breach there adsence rules.
Here is the hack I used and then put the banner in the box: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123281
Well if you want to try to register on my site you will see the google ads are replaced on the reg page with a dhtml message so I think I'm alright there. You can use if statements to exclude the pages that will not comply with the AUP. Not a big issue.

You should really read there AUP, becuase I'm not sure if the same went for members list pages, I do know there were other pages that putting the banner in the footer breached there agreement.
The footer is the best place to use it, but after reading there rules. I decided not to risk it, even though I see many other boards still doing it that way. Like I say better to read there AUP so you can see what exactly they don't allow. I only skipped through it, but read enough to decide in removing it from the footer.
To be honest the footer is kind of a bad place I think anyway. People tend to ignore banners in footers and headers. There too used to them being there on most sites. Take a look at a thread on my site and see how the banner is always displayed after the last post. You have a much better chance of it being clicked there as the thread is read.
Maybe this would be a good topic to start. I also use adsense at the end of the first post and it seems to be doing very well. With some tweaking to the Vb code the ads are definitely content related now. I guess the best thing to do is to contact them. They have already been to my site about 7 months ago because one of my over eagar moderators was asking people to click on the ads. That is a huge violation. They were very helpful pointing out all violations, gave me time to fix those issues and being under the nav was not one they pointed out. I don't think they are out to screw you, they want to make money like everyone else.
Thanks for the heads up though.
Jaks
I'm going to start a new topic for this subject since it one that should be discussed further.

I was actually replying to the series of posts above talking about the formatting issue, but I also have a suggestion for your problem. Check to make sure the templates used in each custom module is listed. Without these, they won't be cached and load times will increase. Also try using the stock vb style and see if the speed increases. If it does, you'll need to see what else in that particular style may be causing problems.
i don't understand what i have to check to increase CMPS page loading
i have a custom style and the vBadvanced CMPS page loads very slowly , instead the forum loads fast as usually.
thank you
KW802
09-22-2005, 11:52 AM
A custom style has no affect on how fast CMPS loads. Based upon your forum size, however, the queries may have an affect. If you're running a large site try upgrading to CMPS 2.x (available at vBadvanced.com) as the queries have been updated to improve response times. Also, try turning off the 'moderation' module on your main page.

I guess I just want to know, if there's a way to show the listing of forums on the portal home page...that way, i can rename cmps_index.php to index.php without having to worry about people looking for the list of forums...

Our mods decided they loved vBadvanced for unix.com and we started the install today, following the instructions step-by-step and after each step, making sure the forum is still up and running.
All was going well until we got to the last replacement in ./includes/functions.php
When we make the replacement called for in querypermissions, the forum breaks. I have tried it four times and each time, the forum breaks (no pages will show, just blank). We are running vb 3.0.5.
Any idea why?
We assume that none of the steps in the install break the forum and we are testing each step using a default style that is not vBadvanced, etc.
Thanks for your help!

We followed the instructions, did everything we were asked to do at vBadvanced, and this product breaks our board. We have been using vB for so many years I can't count, long before there was vB 2.0, and have installed and deleted many working hacks. We have paid for special mods, etc.
My message is that we are not "rookies" and have considerable knowledge of UNIX and Linux :-) and we can't get this to work and can't get meaningful support or normal communications from vBadvanced.
We offered to pay for the install at vBadvanced (based on their advertised install rate) if they would agree to use SSH v. very insecure FTP, and they did not answer our PM. What's up with that?
We do not recommend, from a security perspective, that people use FTP on active, large boards. FTP transfers passwords in clear text. This is dangerous, as everyone knows. So why does vBadvanced not answer our offer to pay their standard install rates if they use SSH v. FTP?
I can't get an answer from vBa. The folks their (and here) responsible for vBa will not communicate, I'm sorry to post. My guess is they are too busy on other projects... but it seems that when they advertise on their site that they will install vBa for a fee, they could at least have the professional courtesy to answer the SSH v. FTP question, don't you think?
If the vBa team are not going to support this hack, please be so kind to let us know so we can "move on" to other tasks and hacks.

Update:
We regret to inform that we removed vBadvanced CMPS from our site for a number of reasons. Perhaps someday the software and vBa customers will be more actively supported.
Best of Luck with vBadvanced in the future! We appreciate the opportunity to, as least, try the vBa installation to see if we might get it to work as advertised. Seems easy enough, but the installation caused our active board to "freeze"..... and we were not successful in getting the support to insure the installation worked.
Take care.

I guess I'm confused,,,,but there is no modification to the includes/functions.php file in the install instuctions for vbadvanced 2.0
MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THE LATEST VERSION
http://www.vbadvanced.com/products.php?
after you get the forum path in the cmps_index.php file configured which is pretty simple, this hack installs itself. I think as a noob I must have installed this hack 5 or 6 times and it doesn't get much easier

Just to make things clearer: both vBulletin and CMPS are installed under mydomain.com/forums, neither is in the root directory.Sorry, I should've specified better... Zachery's instructions mention the root folder but a better description for that change is for whenever CMPS is in the same folder as the forums. :)
Essentially you ended up renaming your current index.php (which is your forums script home page) to something else like forums.php, go into your ACP to specify the new name of the forums script home page, and then rename cmps_index.php to index.php.

You can put the cmps_index file whereever you'd like, so you can put it within your site root or your forum root for instance (although you'd have to alter the settings in the admincp should you decide to have the cmps as your new index) ;)

CMPS = /forums/index.php

Before I forget, you want to change one other thing...
Choose ACP => vBa CMPS => Default Settings => CMPS URL and change the value their to reflect the fact that CMPS is now named "index.php" instead of "cmps_index.php" -- I remembered that because I saw in your header that some links are still pointing to cmps_index.php yet.
With CMPS 1.x.x that value doesn't exist but with CMPS 2.x.x it does so I tend to forget it sometimes.

I noticed that when I called a cmps page it took a while longer than calling a forum/cmps page (I didn't delete it), for some reason. I created a special style just for the now-renamed index.php with all links pointing to forum/cmps pages. There are no broken links, just a funky navigation experience.

if (THIS_SCRIPT == 'online' OR THIS_SCRIPT == 'calendar' OR (THIS_SCRIPT == 'index' AND $vboptions['showevents']))
and
In your /forum/admincp/index.php file:
$printhr = false;
if (can_administer('canadmincalendars'))
and also
In your /forum/includes/functions.php:
if (THIS_SCRIPT == 'online' OR THIS_SCRIPT == 'calendar' OR (THIS_SCRIPT == 'index' AND $vboptions['showevents']))
can't find these three above lines in files specified board is newely installed v3.6.8 and i've downloaded this file: vbadvanced_CMPS_1.0.1

if you are running 3.6.8, then go to vbadvanced and download version 3.0 of vbadvanced.
