Depends on weather you can recompile. Check the other hack, PHPSpell.

For those of you who want the look and feel of PungoSpell, but prefer using MySQL instead of PHP/PSPELL/aspell, you might want to check vB Spell::

So in order to get learn working I had to change to personal_ws-1.1 english 0 in the custom.pws.

And it works fine for a while, then it seems once my server is rebooted or apache restarted I get:

Warning: pspell_save_wordlist() gave error: Sorry, I can't write to the file "//custom.pws". in /checkspelling.php on line 39
done

then I have to delete the file, create it again and start over.
