View Full Version : Moving from a PHP4 to a PHP3 Server
I will be moving my board from a host that is PHP4, to one that is PHP3. What exactly will I need to change, and will it be compatible? My main thing that I want answered is will the board be compatible AT ALL, but also will my hacks be compatible, so if you could answer both things, that would be great.
vB 1.x is PHP3 compatible, but from what I've seen, vB 2x and following versions will require PHP4, for its sesson support.

ok, but will i need to switch to the version using .php3 extensions (therefore installing all my hacks all over again)... and will teh database need to be changed at all cuz i started on PHP4?
vBulletin v2.0's session features are home-made. You won't need php 4.0
ok, what i am trying to say is can I just dump my sql database into a file, upload it to the new sql server, and just move the php files, or do i need to do something else?

Just make sure your new server can handle .php extensions. Assuming they are unhacked, you could just download the version with php3 extensions. Other than that, you should just be able to import your MySQL data, and then move the PHP files to your new server.

unfortuantely, they are hacked. so what i would have to do if it couldnt support .php files, would be just upload the .php3 files, and rehack them? and then just dump the database into the new my sql server, and it would work fine?
It should as long as all your hacks are PHP3 compatible as well.
its just the PM 1.2.5 and stars....
Stars is so simple, it has to be php2 compliant (sorry Freddie). I believe Ed said the PM hack was compliant with 3.
Anything I write on the other hand might not be because I would have access to a PHP3 server to test and too lazy to check every function in the manual. :)
ok, nice.... what i care most bout is the PM's... ed, if u c this, would u verify?
Yes, I run it on PHP 3.0.16 (IIRC). I need to compile a 3.0.9 sometime... :)
The host has PHP 3.0.15 installed. PM's will not work with that? :(
uhh.. no, I said (or meant) it will work fine with PHP3.
*phew*
had me all scared....
i greatly appreciate all you guys help that you have given me :)
and thx ed
