View Full Version : News marker

Here's what I'm looking to do:

Some of the threads posted are "news". I'd like them to be marked "news" by admins, moderators or another usergroup (a custom one to handle content).

How it functions:
- Anyone can obviously post, and somewhere on the thread tools for the appropriate usergroup is a "mark news" option. After it is marked news that the post cannot be edited by anyone other then the appropriate moderator, super mod or admin (if it's not too hard, perhaps the other group that can make it news as well).
- There are two webpages made off of this; both outside the forum directory:
A news list. Date, title, perhaps the mini-descrip.
A news page. The post displayed in a different format (more "news" like) and the number of comments (replies) that links to the post.
- There's a basic rss feed of news items.

You're probably thinking: how is it displayed? Well, that's just a simple sql statement that I'll need to write and put on my front page (which is not in php, so no module or anything needed, at least for me).

Anyone who's familiar with vbulletin and php should be able to do something like this very quickly. I'm semi-familiar with vb and php and I are just acquaintances at the moment. If $ is a motivator, please PM me with a quote as this is getting to be more of a need than a want.

Perhaps a mod could move this to the service requests forum; hopefully I can get a response in there. Thanks :)
