[originally from this vB2 hack (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=47329)]This hack adds alt text to smilies, describing them and showing the the text that you need to use in posts to display them. It's very practical, especially in forums with lots of smilies. It's very simple to install, details are in the attached text file.

Screenshots:
Screenshot (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?s=&postid=337996) - Note that the mouse is actually over the lime green (2nd) smilie, printscreen just doesn't actually capture the cursor :)I have ported this minihack ('cos I liked the old one and used it all the time and 'cos I have a terrible memory!) but I'd be happy to give over this thread to the original hack author if he returns to the forum.

Instructions are attached - it works (almost exactly the same) and looks exactly the same as the old one - I expanded it to store the smilietext in both alt and title elements so that browsers that use either alt or title as the tooltip will show the same information ... (and so that the smilies would be valid under accessibility guidelines with something in alt text ;) ;) nudge nudge saynomore :D)

HTH people...

Q: How is this diferent from current behaviour?
A: Currently vB3 shows the description of the smilie, not the text used to render the smilie (which I find more helpful) - another option would be to have both! [this shall be left as an excercise for the reader ;) :p @ Bob]
