Quick reply a usergroup option

I'd like to turn on quick reply - but only for certain usergroups. I'm not sure where to throw in some ifs, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Yes, but would it be better to leave it off and then activate it for the usergroups; or turn it on for the whole site, but surround $quickreply with a conditional?

I have mine set up as a User CP option for each users That way, if they are on dial-up, they can turn it off if the page loads slow for them. All I added was a profile field with YES or NO options and wrapped the quickreply in the conditional for it.
