Hey there,

I receive many questions about the porting of my hacks so I wanted to inform everybody in this thread. I'll try to update this thread in time. Here is the status of my hacks:

So this calls for some new thoughts and more work to port the hack. Thus this has lower priority in my to-do list atm.

As you can see I have quite long to-do list so I thank you for patience and understanding and extend my apologies if you are waiting for one of these hacks.

If you ask Kathy to add it to her to-do list, you can consider it delivered. ^^ But even in this scenario I need to find a wise way to match passwords in the new password system which made it very hard for me to port this hack as it salts passwords uniquely.

Logician, what is Kathy's username? I would like to send her a PM concerning the hack as well. Like "the Sandman", I view this particular hack as virtually essential to maintaining decorum on our fairly large community. I've had the hack for over a year now and I simply couldn't imagine upgrading until it was in place. It's important in keeping the trash out and avoiding multiple registrations.

I know only one thing!
I waited sooo long before i convert my 2.3.0 board into 3.0.0, the only reason for this was the webtemplates could not be ported to vb3.0.0 .. so. in vb2.3.0 i worked many weeks on dynamic pages and it was a big hooray when the first user visited this new kind of website .. in just a few days this section (all webtemplate pages) appeared to be the most visited and most important websitesites on www.spieleplanet.com .. the dynamic and information in webtemplates could pull out nearly everything and nearly an infinity loop of options and layouts..

..but one, really bad day, the server collapes and much data was lost, i had to build up everything new from zero.
So i decided to upgrade the board to vb3.0.0, it is a also great thing this new version of vBulletin, but without the webtemplates www.spieleplanet.com is only driving on 50% of the possibilities users could have with the webtemplates

.. it is really naked now :( ..
one thing you have to know:
.. if i would win in a lottery. .maybe i will.. i will give you a part of it .. you do a very great job .. maybe one day i am millionare .. than you will be it too ..

..my baby www.spieleplanet.com is next to my wife a very importand thing to me.. and your works did this part to a very nice place where freinds, me and all the 10 Million visitors i had spend their time in the last 3 years :D

..so i would do anything to help you finishing up the news version webtepmplates.. just tell my a m if you need somthing ..

I have some little work to polish it, then some more work to test it before releasing. Still no promises but I believe it will be released in 2 weeks.

Webtemplate production is taking sometime, sorry for that. In the meantime I released a easier to port hack: Download Thread (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?p=516237#post516237).

Its number of installers were more than that of webtemplates anyway. ^^

Sorry all I can say is "soon". I have things to deal with at the moment. As soon as I have some spare time, I'll finish it. It is already mostly finished but of course there are still things to do like test it, fix bugs, write help files, write install instructions, write upgrade instructions etc.

Both :D I was dumb enough to upgrade to VB3 without checking if the old WT would work :( I guessed as no chanegs to VB2 files were changed it would just work, I was wrong :D

But if you need people to test before you release, i'm up for it when you are ready.

I was referring to your Birthday Greeting thread. I used it all the time for my members, had it customised to include HTML, sounds etc. Was a nice hack :cool:.

I didnt plan to import this hack because its primary feature (greeting birthdays automatically) are already covered by vb3. However if I recall correctly, somebody already released a hack for vb3 for creating greeting threads for birthdays so I'd say check it out.

you can not downgrade from vb3 to vb2. PM me your email and I'll send you the part I have finished. There is no guarentee it will work bugless but I see you are desperate so I'm hoping that this can help you a little. But please note that I can not spare extra time to fix bugs of the script I'll send to you. So if it does not work, you need to wait for the official release. Hope this helps a bit.

Edit : Second thought: Instead of email, give me access (vb admin cp, phpmyadmin, ftp) to your server so that I can install it for you. It will take a lot of time to compile a "how to install document" if you try to install yourself.

Yep, it's pretty much the same as WT2. I can't really write a manual but if anyone wants me to install it for them, then let me know.

I got it installed with a few bits of help from Logician and it's been working perfectly. I don't know abou the more advanced features, I only use WT to display basic HTML pages.

It should be ok except:
- editor.php is not coded yet so features related to it does not work
- webquery section is not tested well
- documentation, help webtemplates, installation instructions missing.

If you ever get the chance to release this as a self contained CMS that would rock so hard. I've got several sites, but only the one runs a VB. All the rest don't need one so it's not worth the price to get a vb for them. I haven't found a CMS that I like compared to webtemplates.

I don't plan to add new features in version 3 because I want it convertible easily from version 2 for people who already uses that version. So I try to keep them exactly same in features but just make it work under vb3.

That's cool. Though I have been looking and haven't found a free CMS that does things quite the way webtemplates does.

Just a heads up. I'm working on a new opensource CMS that is inspired by webtemplates. You can find out more about it here http://www.sobotics.com/diviniti/

It's not built off of vB like webtemplates. It's a CMS unto itself.

I don't know PHP or MySQL myself so that left me a little stuck. I did however find a developer who is working on that area of the system for me while I layout the concept, HTML and CSS.

However it seems webtemplates is kind of unique. It's been hard trying to explain exactly what it does compared to stuff like phpnuke. A lot of developers have their minds set on how something should work. Many of which are not as fluid and elegant as you desinged webtemplates to be.

I would certainly be wiling to add an "Inspired by Logicians Webtemplates CMS" at the bottom of AdminCP for this new system. If you'd like.

Of course I will still continue to use webtemplates on my vB powered site MichiganFilm.org

is in the news version no possibility to integrate the first attachement of a thread ?
i cant use these portal systems for news like "game news" they are overloaded with informations .. its a nice feature (a portal addon) for community overview as a page ..

if you hack would have any possibility to integrate an news/thread picture .. it would be really fantastic .. maybe it should be seperated from the attachments .. a seperated upload into the threads table .

I'm sorry for the delay of it (and the rest of the hacks which are not yet ported!). I know that "Who might this new user be" hack is on high demand. If someone else is willing to port it, he has my blessing. If I need to do it, I'm afraid it has to wait for sometime too. I really need to release webtemplates first as I have already promised to release it much earlier.

Regarding your hack "who might this user be" perhaps you could release a beta which excluded the password comparison feature for now since it seems that feature is causing the main hangup with releasing a Vb3 version. For me, the most important part of your hack was quickly knowing if a new user had the same IP, e-mail, or ISP as another user. That information alone without the password comparisons was still a valuable and convenient screening tool for identifying attempted clones. Don?t get me wrong, knowing if a password was duplicated played an important part in determining clones but a little info is better than none. Just a thought.

I need a few beta testers for 3.5 version of "Dynamic Forum Home Announcements Hack (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=64189)". Anybody interested please email me.

I need someone who is:
* Already using this hack in vb 3.0 version and familiar with the hack
* Already upgraded his board to 3.5 (latest version ie RC3) or at least has a test 3.5 enviroment to test the hack.
* Ready to install the hack to his board (or test board)
* Let me know the results adn give me feedback

3.5 version is coded as a pluggin so it does not require you to hack your vb codes. You can easily install it through vb3.5 pluggin system and can also uninstall/disable it with 1 click.

I've tested it in my localhost and it works fine but my own board is not upgraded to 3.5 yet, so I want to get a few confirmations from others before releasing the hack officially.
