Can spiders index private forums?

Can search engine spiders index private or password protected/access masked forums? I see that they appear in the archive and I don't exactly want spiders listing these in search engines..

Can they? If so is there a way to stop them? Thanks.

they, just like a usergroup without proper permissions, should see the error message.. at least they do on my board..

look at online.php. if you have bots activated you can see what bots are viewing. if a stop sign is appearing next to their name then they are receiving an error message of some sort;)
