Auto-email a thank you on paid subscription

I did a search and am not seeing this -- has anyone written a hack that will auto-email a thank you to a subscribing member when their status is processed/upgraded?

This would be real handy.. i guess you could st this up via your payment method too. May not be speific enough that way though.

Any ideas?
