View Full Version : Anonymous Hack
Hi,
this Hack is really easy to realize but my Knowledge is too less.
I have an Real-Life-Category on my Board and i twould be great if i could insert a checkbox in "Miscellaneous Options" below "Disable smilies in text" with the Option "Post as anonymous".
If this Box is checked the Post will appear as a Post from "Anonymous" ( an User you have to create before). This Account will only be used to post anonymous.
This checkbox should only appear in one special Forum.
Thanks in advance!
This is a great idea :D
Especialy if it can be restrected to a certain user group.

This would be great - we're doing a similar thing at the Admin Zone, but manually, using a "Anonymous Submissions" Forum with special permissions in place and the Advanced Editing Options Hack. A user option would be gooder. I'd like to see it available only to registered members or by usergroup, and have the Poster's true identity visible to Admins or SuperAdmins only.
No Hacker interested to do this? Would be really nice...
Who will it be to add manually an User and if you post a new Thread / posting you have a checkbox and if it is checked the especially added User will be the Poster.
I told it very weird, hmm?
Sorry, but i ask again for it.

Couldn't you get away with some special template edits... and a few IF conditionals? IF check box is marked, display Anon template which will hide the username for non-admins and display a name anonimous?
Yeah that would be great too.
I just search an easy way for my members to post anonymous with one check. Thats all.
But i can't write it down myself :-(

ya i would like this also
It wouldn't be that hard to code. I may release it actually. Depends if I can think of a use for it. It shouldn't take too long to code though. Reeve of shinra has the general idea down. I might do it if I have the time.
That would be really really great!

Why not use permissions and let guests post in a certain forum? (just an idea)
No, because its a Forum where Guest should not be able to read or write, because its community-intern. If somebody talks about real-life-problems and some idiots writing down some bad things, no one will write there anymore...

You can just stop them from viewing threads via Usergroup Permissions, but still post. Try that?
No i didn't but i dont really like this solution. I want to offer the most easiest way for the User. It's a too far way if they have to log out.
But thank you for your Help :-)

Well for those that remember the old BBS days long since past we used to have message boards where anyone who posted in it was automatically "anonymous" - the logging out and having guests post is a quick work around but it's also very clumsy and no user would ever do it. There were 3 options in the old TAG system, regular, anonymous and user selectable anonymous (they could choose to post anon or not). I'd love to see something like that. Don't post any postbit info, no signatures or anything like that. Admins can still see who posts what, and the users can still see the info THEY posted but no one else can. Just an idea with perhaps a bit more info about it.
That's exactly what i ment...
asking again....perhaps...
I see there is one for moderators now, something new about on for normal Members?

all you have to do is remove the checks to ensure that it's a moderator posting for it to work the way you want.
How does one of this checks look like?

Yeah, would be great!!
Guys, the hack is in beta right now and not ready to be branched off at this point. It needs to be tested more as-is before allowing less experienced coders to install it on their boards.

I'll add my voice to this thread. I need exactly such a hack where a user can check a box to "Post Anonymously" and have their post go up as a Guest with no signature (IP tracking to still apply but the post should otherwise appear EXACTLY as a guest).
We have two forums (under development) which allow people to discuss aviation related matters and questions which if done under their registered name, could be troublesome for them. We're not talking about anything illegal, but more questions like 'If I got busted for DUI 10 years ago, what should I do to ensure I can get a medical for my pilot's licence.' Sensitive topics where an obvious link to a known poster could be embarassing or even damage their flying future.
Yeah, they can log out and post - but thats not an acceptable long term option.
Would VERY much like a hack like this for 3.0.6+.
And if you live in the Baltimore area and you can write this hack I'll take you sightseeing as a thank you. :)
