View Full Version : Request: Ability for users to "report this personal message" for rules violations

Hopefully everyone understands the idea behind this suggestion.
If someone sends a PM that breaks the site's user agreement, it would be nice for the recipient to be able to hit a "report this PM" button so they could bring it to the staff's attention.
Specifically an email is sent to an email address or mailing list that describes who is making the report, has room for the complainee's comments, who the message was from, the date of the PM and an exact copy of what was said in the message (including any "quotes" from previous replies). Then the recipients of the complaint could review the evidence and take action.

this would be a great feature, i am constantly getting complaints from users about other users PMing links to alternative sites and i need to be able to weed these spammers out quick

It's already been done on my site. ;)

i personally think that PM's should be kept private not have PM content be sent to anyone else. however to solve the issue of spammers the user can either ignore the user by adding them to their ignore list or you can create a usergroup where these spammers may be moved to and not have permissions to send private messages

I have a lot of females on my site so I set this up where any reported PM goes ONLY to the Administrator to be dealt with. It gives them piece of mind. ;)

i have this installed and it's a great feature, a great innovation, i too feared the content of private messages and wanted to present the option to stand up against harrassment.

I'm sorry but where is such a feature available?
I believe in privacy, too. By "staff" I meant it should go to the attention of the six super moderators. At my site it is the super moderators who handle bans and complaints of rule violations.

As stated above, I released this on my site. I just haven't made it up here to post it yet.
I've discussed the specifics of an implementation of this for a future release of vb3 with the developers, including centralized IP address storage for PMs and other areas of potential abuse. Not sure if/when it will be publicly released though.
