If hack of the month is determined by installations or downloads, IMHO it would be nice to have a way for users to nominate & vote for hackers who provide excellent hacks, great support and exhibit professionalism.

These hackers may be people whose hacks never reach mass numbers of installations, but who are excellent additions to this community. And who deserve special recognition.

Just a thought, but I hope you will consider something along this line.

In a perfect world this would be a great contest and an honor to win, but I don't see this becoming anything but a popularity contest in this world :(

Brads right.

Yes, as I proposed this, you are both probably right.

Too bad, when some of the hackers here really do deserve some sort of special recognition for both the quality of their support and professionalism.

I think it may be a good idea. :) Dean has plans to implement a "member of the month" program and maybe he can extend his project to cover this request too.

i would suggest hacker of the mouth to be based on, activityness. user made X new hacks in 30 days, # of installs, replys that hacker made in the thread, and how many downloads. Just a thought.

What about those of us who do not release hacks but still help people? Cause if this is only for people who release hacks, it'll be spiliting us up into groups again. :(

that's why it'd be good to have a hacker and a non-hacker (member) of the month ;)

well have a 1st and second and 3rd place - aint hard

if u base the votes upon Helpfulness on the forums /Hacker of the month etc then im sure it will work.Anything that makes vb.org a better place is fien by me.

Dean is currently working on a system like that.

I'm sure he'll take these tips into consideration :)

The system I plan on implementing will be for those who help others and the community as well as those those who release hacks. Similar to what's run @ sitepoint. :)

Then it should be a good idea then. :D

Heres my suggestion on a formula:
((Hacks Released + Thread-posts in relevant forums)/30)+Mod-Admin votes

This algorithm averages hack related contributions over a month and adds votes from a poll among the leadership here. How does that sound?

Hmm, it would have been deans' resort, but he is away now because of Real Life things....

He may work on this concept still, so let's wait for an lifesignal ^^

Just dropping in. This is my first priority once I'm back. And my last exam is 11th June so i'll be back then unless I go on holiday with some buddies to celebrate. Feel free to discuss any ideas you may have and i'll take them into consideration when I'm back :)
