If there's any features anyone wants added, I'll try and add them. I think I added everything people asked for in the previous version, apart from the upgrader, which will be added to the ZIP file when i've setup another test forum and added the previous version to it

There shouldn't be any problems, because I've tested the installer three times.
And I haven't had any problems with the actual shoutbox, or shout manager.

I'll attach some screenshots of all the custom scripts, if anyone asks for screenshots of the add ons for the permissions and stuff ill take them, dunno why anyone would want them tho...

You may wanna include telling installers that they MAY have to enable permissions for every usergroup as it is off by default if they forgot to edit their /includes/config.php file w/ "1" having access to changing admin permissions.

All is working well. It'd be nice to have some form of generic WYSIWYG interface though. Anyway to incorporate something similar to the one already provide in vb? Perhaps as a pop-up or something?

The ONLY reason I ask, would be to better choose colors instead of the bland black for everyone. They can use bbcode to change the color of course...but that may get old having to explain that to 'em. ;)

Hmmmm....tried editing a shout...and it doesn't save. It goes to a blank page in the admincp. I can delete just fine...but not edit.

Also...there is no text for "Edit"...just to brackets "[]". "Delete" text is there. The "[]" is clickable...it takes me to the text of the shout I wish to edit...clicking save after the change however...does absolutely nothing to the shout itself though.

you should be able to edit shouts with the new shout.php file, if you dont wanna download the new zip tho, just change this:

I had your old version and on attempted to overwrite it with this one. I hit errors all over the place, and get: Unable to add cookies, header already sent.

Okay, i uploaded all the 3 files to the respective directory, then run the install.php
At the step before go into Admin panel, i deleted the shout_install.php file becuz it asked for it.
then i clicked " go to admin cp" and the page showsup saying no such page. then i uploaded the shout_install.php again try to start over. Thhis is wut i got:

Read the entire thread. You need to set permissions to YES because the default for SB is no.

Can't remember as far as what changes need to be made in the file...but to allow usergroups to view/access/moderate the shoutbox...

It is in your AdminCP...go down to Usergroups, click edit...and at the bottom will be the settings for that particular usergroup for the shoutbox.

Turns out that mine were all set to off by default BECAUSE I didn't set my forums/includes/config.php to allow unlimited access to the Administration Group.

I've got an error with IE 6 after submitting a shout.

With Mozilla everything works fine, but IE displays only a blank white frame after shout was sent. You need to refresh the page to see the input field and submit button again.

And how would I move the text input box, etc. from the top to the bottom?
I'd also like to remove the archive link and make the refresh link a button.

My forum has a background image defined in the body of my CSS.

When the shoutbox loads it too loads the background image into the seperate iframe.

This doesnt look very attractive. Is there anyway i can stop the shoutbox iframe from using the vB CSS?

I've installed this and followed all the instructions, but nothing change. Not even a thing.

In the admincp, there's no Shoutbox administration menu (Yes I've edited the required files mentioned in the instructions and uploaded all of them), and no shoutbox on the forumhome (Yes I've added the code beneath $navbar)...

OK, I finally got it installed into 3.01 with no problems. I had made a full backup of the database first and when it did not work, I had to wipe and restore the db to do the reinstall. It did not want even a trace of it in the system.

In addition, the default permissions were set to "YES", but I had to set them all to "NO" and then back to "YES" before anybody could see the shoutbox.

Strange thing tho. The "Edit" link in the Shoutbox area of the ACP does not show up (but it still works). See the attached picture. Also, if I hit the delete button without checking a box, I get either an error that says:

or I get a db error like:

I have tried and tried to install the shoutbox correctly..I just tried editing all the php files again a minute ago to no avail..I ended up re uploading my includes/functions_online file because I kep getting a parse error......

Now I cannot reinstall using the admincp/shout_install unless I delte tables from MYSQL and I am scared to do that....

What do you reccomend??? Is there any way someone can edit the php files with the correct shoutbox edits?? I'm messing up somewhere along the line...

To uninstall, you need to

Delete the following files
shoutbox.php = forum root directory
shout.php = admincp directory
shout_install.php = admincp directory

Execute these three MySQL commands

ALTER TABLE language drop phrasegroup_shoutbox
ALTER TABLE language drop phrasegroup_shoutmanager
ALTER TABLE usergroup drop shoutboxpermissions

Remove the "shout" table" in your database.

Remove everything in your database referring to the word "shoutbox". (They are pretty much in the "phrase, phrasetype & template" tables.

Remove all the shoutbox templates and phrases. Youc an do this in the database with the above step or do them one at a time in the vb ACP.

Modify you FORUMHOME template and remove the shoutbox code. It is easily identifiable. It begins right after the line that says "$navbar" and ends when you see the <!--/shoutbox code.

Don't forget to revert your php files to the last backup (you did make a backup prior to installing this hack, didn't you?)

Sorry I cannot be more specific but I have mine removed finally and it is working. I just do not remember the exact lines of code to remove.

One last thing. Backup your database before removing the shoutbox entries. If you make a mistake, you will not regret this step.

I found, that after installation there was a problem with vbprase
1. archive and
2. edit
It override existed, and thouse didn't show up where they supposed to

Maybe someone can explain to me why a Coder would make a program/Hack to use then not support the work they created....I mean its like buying a car from a dealership and they will not provide a service if it breaks down, So why would someone want to download a program, that a coder was proud of, then not provide support for this...


Im asking because Im sick and tired of always downloading hack that the Coder claims they work, then they don't, then they don't provide support for it, then you as a webmaster has to spend hours to revert the hack...

IMHO I would have a set of rules to have for the site that if a coder uploads a hack, they need to support it, I mean if you were to go thru all the threads on any hack, you would see that alot of coders don't support their creations!!! so why promote it then!

I would say atleast 80% plus of webmaster of sites don't know programing from right to left and they come here to download a product that should work without problems, then out of the blue, no support!!!...that is just a waste of time and "Money" for some site....

Im not trying to be out line on this, but I really feel there needs to be a set of standards a site like this needs to enforce, which will show to the members who register or buy the product of vB that they will get the best of the best for their sites!!!

Ouch. This one hurt. Looks sweet, and I see other people installing it ok.

But full of disasters for me. Very difficult to retrace/debug/rollback/fix, because everything is hidden in the install script. If it works, you are laughing I guess.

I have difficulty with those postage stamp windows for cutting and pasting, prefer to work in real text editors. And found that I had to go back and double-check all the mods, so I made this text file.

It may be of use to somebody.

But for me, I rolled backed everything and wrote off a few hours as a learning experience.

Mind if take a look at your site and see what it looks like? I'm hesitant to install this because of problems I've had with other hacks, and I finally have everything running the way I want it :) The only other hack I have worth mentioning is vBAdvanced CMPS.

The only thing I saw that was a problem, and this is very very minor... was when deleting a post there was no phrase saying that the shout had been deleted. Like I said, kinda minor, but something you may want to add into the next version.

Been using it for quite a while now .. had no problems.

To delete shouts .. hit the archive button > edit shout > delete shout :nervous:

You really want to do that for 4,600+ shouts? The only way to do that, is via mysql. It is unreasonable to expect an admin to maintain the shout db via every single shout.

I went ahead and installed it and so far so good.. I've started playing with a module to have the shoutbox replicated in the Custom Content area for the portal. If I get it working I'll let ya know :)

I finally gave in due to the lack of attention to any other shoutbox for vb3. I also got it working for CMPS: www.onlinedebate.net I hate having to use phpmyadmin to remove old posts...but I suppose it's a small price for a working shoutbox.

However, I failed at the code, gave in, and hired a freelancer for the job. My communities use shoutboxes a lot, it's an important feature for my communities, it was worth hiring a professional do the job right since there isn't much support out there for any shoutboxes these days.

I don't mind releasing the templates/code for the mod to work with CMPS, but there will have to be a small fee to compensate for the cost of the freelancer ($5 or less). I can't advertise it here obviously, and I'm not ready to release the code just yet (I want to clean it up a bit and make the install instructions a bit clearer).

I agree it is a nice addon, but your addon is not free, you charge for it. That is waht I say is wrong and for what I understand agianst the rules here.

The original work is not yours and if it is abandoned by its author, at most the hack would become freeware.

Really it is vBulletins call. I just don't seeing someone profit of another mans free works.

I have done several addons and modifacations to anothers free work but never seen the need to charge for them.

If you look in the install.php file, you'll see the tables that were included. It's a little work, but by looking at that, and using myphpadmin, you can tell what was added into the db.

Furthermore, NO ONE is profiting off of another's work here. CMPS is a portal system (www.vbadvanced.com). To date, no vb integrated shoutbox has been created for ANY portal system w/ exception of vbindex. Many requests have been made by posters in these and other forums, for a coder to work on a vb shoutbox that can be used for portals. Months and months have passed...no one was willing to do it. I tried about 15 different shoutbox possibilities, none were sufficient...none could integrate w/ vb. I tried coding it myself...but couldn't get it to work. I hired a coding company to create the shoutbox. I paid quite a bit for it (for the mod)...but it was necessary for my communities.

Since many others are still desperate for a solution to an integrated vb CMPS shoutbox, and no one is stepping up, I have offered this solution to those who want it now instead of waiting for another year or so before one is created. I make no profit here. I won't even break even. $5 is nothing, but it helps offset the costs paid by me to get the hack to work.

I have helped with addons to other hacks before. I never charge...that's lame. But this is quite different because 1) I hired a professional company to do the work, 2) I wish to be partly compensated, 3) $5 is a very small amount compared to the actual cost. Since I have paid the big bucks for the hack, it is a waste of money for someone else to do it, when I would offer it already complete and functioning, for such a negligible price that they would ordinarily pay. Of course, one could always wait until someone did it for free...but if the past several months are any representation of the coder interest in this project...there will be a horribly long wait. Some people may not want to wait and want this mod now.

Also, I would never post this in a thread by itself as an offer. I'm not aggressivily advertising it. I'm only mentioning to those who have an interest in this specific hack, as a solution IF they have CMPS installed.

As far as better install instructions...I could rewrite it so it works perfectly (the install), but I don't know if I can. As you said, this is someone else's hack. Is it even acceptable for me to fix and repost someone's hack? If it is, I have no problem with that, shouldn't take too long to write. But I assumed that the original code/hack wasn't to be touched if the result was just the same hack. My mod hack for BVFull is not the same, it creates a NEW shoutbox for CMPS front pages only.

I'm agree with you, as since upgrade from vbulletin 3.01 to 3.03 I have a big problem to run our database because we missed something in the "usergroup" table.

My forum has a background image defined in the body of my CSS.

When the shoutbox loads it too loads the background image into the seperate iframe.

This doesnt look very attractive. Is there anyway i can stop the shoutbox iframe from using the vB CSS?

I had a lot of these types of problems with my hacks after upgrading from 3.01 to 3.03. How i fixed it was looked at the error and went into phpmyadmin and dropped and entries that continued to come up.(ie. in ur case here the "Usergroup" table 'shoutboxpermissions' entry

After finally getting rid of all the Table Modifications associated with the hack was I able to do fresh installs of the hacks... Its a time consuming process, but it works and can turn out to be less time consuming then other methods.

***Note*** Here's a tip .. If ya drop a table entry error and try and install the hack and it errors at a new point further along then the previous error spot then you'll probably need to drop BOTH table Mods again and so on and so forth for as many as there are. SO I just Copy and pasted them into a txt file and then I had the Hack Table Mods on file.

Upgraded from the old Shoutbox and its working now! The only prob i had is it didn't alter my default template so it was going to a blank page after a shout was posted. Tried it different template it worked so copied the templates again. :)

It seems that I do not have a admin category with the shout manager and on the left bar in the admin cp. I only have what is listed in the admin options. I can't seem to figure out how to edit the permissions and I do not have the Shoutbox manager listed in my admincp. Can anyone please tell me how I can get this added, or how to manually add code to restrict guests from access to the shoutbox on the forums.

I've seen so many posts here stating that this shoutbox does not work and one of the main problems is during the install, file edits are not manually completed correctly. I've installed it on 3.0.1 and 3.0.3 with no problems and it works well.

Because the install procedure runs through all the necassary template, phrases and table changes so well automatically .. the only errors are
created by NOT manually changing the necassary phpfile additions.

I had a lot of these types of problems with my hacks after upgrading from 3.01 to 3.03. How i fixed it was looked at the error and went into phpmyadmin and dropped and entries that continued to come up.(ie. in ur case here the "Usergroup" table 'shoutboxpermissions' entry

After finally getting rid of all the Table Modifications associated with the hack was I able to do fresh installs of the hacks... Its a time consuming process, but it works and can turn out to be less time consuming then other methods.

***Note*** Here's a tip .. If ya drop a table entry error and try and install the hack and it errors at a new point further along then the previous error spot then you'll probably need to drop BOTH table Mods again and so on and so forth for as many as there are. SO I just Copy and pasted them into a txt file and then I had the Hack Table Mods on file.

Thanks, This did help alot, However the table additions that the install script errored on still have to be installed manually in order for the hack to work.
So If someone that is MYSQL talented could help us add these frases manually in th ADMINCP by properly wording and formatting the SQL table additions, this would be all that is left to get my clients Shout Box working.

O.K. Went through each file mod again, still blank Shout Box, which I believe is due to, no permissions. Also get this error when I click on the SHOUT BOX link on top left of box its self.

Now I have set permissions in the Administrator Permissions Manager to YES, only after fixing the errors in the install in the file adminpermissions.php.

His install states to put

Now like I have been suggesting, I believe the lack of permissions and the ability to edit them in the user Group Manager "not showing anything that says Shout Box" is due to the Install Script erroring out at the 2 areas mentioned above. and If I could get somebody to write the edits with the proper SYNTAX so I can install them manually without errors, this should get "might" this darn thing working.

ok part of your problem is that you can't manually add that query as written "table prefix" is catchall relating to whatever your table prefix is. Run this instead

ALTER TABLE usergroup ADD shoutboxpermissions INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '0' AFTER forumpermissions

and

ALTER TABLE language ADD phrasegroup_shoutbox MEDIUMTEXT NOT NULL
ALTER TABLE language ADD phrasegroup_shoutmanager MEDIUMTEXT NOT NULL

Now, if your tables DO have a prefix...you must add it to the table name ie prefix.language or whatever it is you use. Most probably don't have a specific prefix and just use the server default..so you should be ok to run the above

I'm dumbfounded now, I have read, searched and still havn't been able to get this to work, or should I say, show in my AdminPC's Usergroup permissions.

It looks as if I will have uninstll this hack! Are the steps bitg mentions all the steps you have to take to uninstall? I am very wary about going into my database deleting items, if I delete everything else will it matter that these are still in the database? I plan to install a different shoutbox, am I going to get a problem by leaving the previous shout table there?

To uninstall, you need to

Delete the following files
shoutbox.php = forum root directory
shout.php = admincp directory
shout_install.php = admincp directory

Execute these three MySQL commands

ALTER TABLE language drop phrasegroup_shoutbox
ALTER TABLE language drop phrasegroup_shoutmanager
ALTER TABLE usergroup drop shoutboxpermissions

Remove the "shout" table" in your database.

Remove everything in your database referring to the word "shoutbox". (They are pretty much in the "phrase, phrasetype & template" tables.

Remove all the shoutbox templates and phrases. Youc an do this in the database with the above step or do them one at a time in the vb ACP.

Modify you FORUMHOME template and remove the shoutbox code. It is easily identifiable. It begins right after the line that says "$navbar" and ends when you see the <!--/shoutbox code.

I' don't know off hand, I was trying to reinstall the ShoutBox on my clients site because it just dissappeared yesterday for no reason I can find. And while removing all instances of ShoutBox from my database, I now have a blank forums/index.php page! and I can't get my backup to load!

I'm really at a loss, I hit a deer tonight with my brand new car, I have the family's thing to do tomorrow, so getting my clients site up again soon is going to be tought to say the least. Specially since I havn't a clue what to do now.

But If some nice coder who knows databases, could PM me I would Gladly let some of my PayPal money slide out of my account to theirs. and then I will find the answer your looking for and post it here.

I've fiddled around with code in the Forumhome, and within the Shoutbox area, and the best I've come up with is this:

I got it set in admincp to display only one shout. If you want to display more, place:

you probably skip the step of the javascrit in the <head> </head>. This is meant to validate the form and prevent what you are saying from happening. (the blank page). Instead you get an alert box.

I've been using this hack for a few months and it works great, the only thing i still have not been able to manange is to get the 2 shoutbox menus in the admin panel, i got the one under vbulletin options, but the 2 from the menu i can't get to show up.

There seems to be an issue with the installer, it doesn't add the extra tables on the usergroup table ..... I added them manually, but now anyone can use the shoutbox, and whenever I change the permissions in the usergroup setting in the AdminCP, it makes no difference, still anyone can post, regardless.

Pretty useless in the state it's in unfortunately, good job I backed up my forum files and DB, time to restore!

To install the shoutbox upload all the files included in the ZIP file to the

shoutbox.php = forum root directory
shout.php = admincp directory
shout_install.php = admincp directory

then go to admincp/shout_install.php and follw the instructions from there.

I would really luv to install this but if this hack is faulty or buggy...I dont' want it nor do I need a non supported faulty or buggy hack such as this.

I too had a hard time finding the install instructions at first. After I put my glasses on I saw the link to them on one of the install pages. I forget which one right off but it was the page where it prompted for any changes to be made (?) , anyways, there is a link under that where you go for the file and template edits.

PS. you are given the option to generate a text file for the file and teplate changes needed. I did do this so if it is permitted I could attach them to a post here for those who are having difficulty finding them. But I don't know if that would be against the rules. I thought it would have been nice to have them in a seperate file any way.

They only have to be done once, so assuming you already have the shoutbox running on your other skins, simply insert the code from my previous post into your 'forumhome' template. And if you add another skin at some later stage .. just add the code to "New Skin" > forumhome.
