I'll began you hack, I did'nt began before coz I had an other one to finish and I made a small break (1 day, else vBulletin will make me crazy)

So for your hack 'Thank you' (other members could be interested in it that's why I post here and don't use PM ;) ), would you like to see at which date each member clicked on the button ?

For exemple :

Boofo 03-29-2003
Fridja 03-30-2003
...
What do you need (and want) to display ?

Username, userid (with a link to member's profile, perhaps the date, and ?
I need it before begining to define my table's structure :)

I think he's making something for Boofo and wants to know what he wants in the hack.

The private message feature really is good in vB3

@Steven : (other members could be interested in it that's why I post here and don't use PM )

Remove it if you want buf I think boofo will explain here what the hack consists of, and other members could give their opinion, that's why I didin't send him a PM

You are moderator, do what you think is the best ...

could u explain wut this thank you hack is?

VBDev

Ok, this hack consists of :

- add a 'thank you' button in the showthread, so instead of having 20 replies saying 'thank you', each member click this button, and their name is automatically added to a post displayed in 2nd position which shows the total list of members who clicked this button

That's why I'm asking boofo whick kind of datas he wants to add (date ...) and I could take some other good ideas suggested by other members before begining it :p

Sorry to be late. All we really need to display are the names like this:

VBDev, Boofo

Unless it would be better to add the dates like this:

VBDev (3-31-2004), Boofo (2-25-2004)

Would there be a way to add an option tio use the date (as above) or not use the date (like the first quote)? That would it would appeal to more people, I think. ;)

But it would be nice to have them alphabetical and link to their profile. Easier to find. ;)

And it would be nice to have the option to input the name you want as the owner of the tnak you message without it actually having to have a userid.

That, with an option to turn it on or off per forum. Sounds like we have a winner. ;)

For those who don't know what this hack does, here is an explanation.

It will add a Thank You button (like the new reply button) at the top off threads that when clicked for the first time, will make a Thank you post that will add the name of the the user clicking it in the message. Each time it is clicked after the first time, the persons who click it will have their name added to the post.

This is a way to keep threads clean from all of the "Thank you" and "Great Hack" and "I like it" type posts that that can clutter up a thread. Invision Board has a hack like this and it really works great on keeping the threads a little cleaner from "junk posts", as I call them. ;)

I haven't understood this

For date option : no problem
For alphabetical order with link to their profile : no problem too

We need an Admin CP option to be able to only use it in certain forums. ;)

VBDev
04-02-2004, 11:21 AM
Ok, that is already done ;)

Boofo

Ok, how do we set up who the thank you message is from. Maybe the person who started the thread or a Thank you bot?

VBDev
04-02-2004, 11:38 AM
You mean to say who was the first to click on this tank you button in the thread ?

Boofo
04-02-2004, 11:42 AM
We would want it from the person who started the thread or a user that doesn't exist, right? Or is there a better way to do that? What is your idea on it?

VBDev
04-02-2004, 11:45 AM
??

You want the post to be from the first user who has clicked this button ? It it what you mean ?

Boofo
04-02-2004, 11:53 AM
No, the post should be from someone else, like a thank you bot maybe? What do you think?

VBDev
04-02-2004, 11:57 AM
Ok if you want, no pb for it :)

Boofo
04-02-2004, 12:00 PM
You think that would be the best way to do it?

VBDev
04-02-2004, 12:03 PM
it's what I thought at the begining, but if you want this post to be from the first user who has clicked, it should require some extra code lines but why not

Personally I prefer the "thank you Bot' too ;)

Boofo
04-02-2004, 12:06 PM
Then let's go with the thank you bot. That would be best, I think. ;)

VBDev

Done :)

I had problems with conditional in templates, I still don't undestand why it didn"t work but I did what I want in php files :)

I create the txt for the hack, it should be posted in 10-15 min, I have the txt to do, to translate and to make screenshots ;)

Excellent! I'll be looking forward to it, my friend. ;)
