auto resize large images posted in [img] tag

Hi

I run a Forum with 800px width and some images posted by my users ruin my stlye cause they are much larger then 800px.
I don´t want to disallow the img tag and use attachments so please don´t suggest that.

I couldn´t find any solution (searched 4 times) so I´m asking here.

Is there any hack already that I missed?
If not is it possible to have the img size checked before it is displayed?
And is it possible if the image is larger then the specified image size to shrink it to the allowed size?
And if it is possible is anyone up for it?

I think this would help quite alot of forums
