My forum has over 600 members, but the user to post ratio is very low....

Any suggestions what can I do to improve the ratio?

Regards,

Start a spamming thread ;) It's always good to build those initial relationships between members just randonmnly babbling about nothing important..

as an admin you'll find that you tend to dictate conversation, so if you post alot your members should follow.

Getting people to post is a LOT of work at times. Every board has quiet spells. I spend a lot of time every day looking for things that will stir up conversation without starting fights.

A talker Bot in your forum will sometimes get them chatting.

Meh, why use a bot when you can use yourself. Start interesting threads, ones that everyone can reply to and start discussion from.

I have a friend that registered a bunch of fake users and talked to himself to make it look like the threads were hot. I have never done this personally, but I guess it works for some. The Admin Zone should give you some good tips on how to generate traffic.

You could try using the built in functionalities of vbulletin itself. Offer the following for more post count:

More pm storage
More Rep power
A different user group with a special forum
Use Kirby's hack to give a special style
More gallery space
Arcade if you have it
custom user title
signatures
larger avatars

Once you have compiled how you will do the above, then advertise it. If you build it, they will come.

Or you can do what I do and blackmail them.

i double that, screw a bot. do it yourself, get interesting things going. talk about sports, interesting topics that concern everybody, sex usually sells. install a hide hack, post pictures or links that people can only view if they reply to it. that always works.

everybody keeps asking me why my post ratio is that big. it all depends on the kind of board you've got. of course with a music, life style or entertainment forum you're bound to get alot of chats going.

Try running contest. Thats a good incentive. Also, if you don't already, you may want to make sure you allow your visitors to use signatures as it is a small reward to them for posting and getting some exposure to whatever they are into!

I was just referring to the fact that with an AI bot people will play with it to see what they can get it to say. When I first installed a talker bot in a forum people went crazy getting it to chat. Of course that didn't last and soon I removed the bot because it was annoying, but it did get them going :D

I think a simple VIEWS:POST Ratio Mod would be the best..

Example after a user views 100 messges he/she is required to post a message that would 100:1 100 views to 1 post.

Ofcouse the ratio can be set by the admin..

Anyone up for something like this!! Perhaps we can get a few people to donate some cash towards this...

Well, if you simply want to keep your registered members, you need to keep them coming back by offering exclusive content and services as well as stand-out features not seen on rival boards.
