And its not just me that has been getting currupt archive errors...

I use Windows Xp built-in zip extractor. Files are corrupt. Try downloading some vb3 arcade games for example.

I downloaded v3 Arcade again like an hour ago and it worked perfectly here.

I tested something that I know was good and shows the correct size on vb.org. When downloaded it's 500+ bytes short - making it corrupt. AFAIK nothing has changed on my end.

Probably has something to do with what browser you are using and/or what is being used to decompress the zip. So, on that note, would everyone who is having that problem post their OS, web browser and version, and zip program. :)

WinXP, IE6, WinZip - Also failed using Opera

In both cases the file size is wrong.

Worked with Mozilla.

I'm also having problems, I have posted a message at Vbulletin.com forums already. I wonder if it may have something to do with the new security measures they are putting in place for the downloads of the forum converters, they are being very careful that the non-registered sites don't get those converters.

if that's the case, it's very disruptive to those who use IE.. i use mozilla firefox, so i don't care.. however it shouldn't be browser dependant or OS dependant.. kinda defeats the purpose.. you rule out 90 percent of the world.. and people sometimes aren't as apt to change so please don't tell folks to just DL firefox..

no reason in the world IE users should be punished because of some internal security/ site change..

THought I would try it out....

win xp using firebird and winzip 8.1 ... everything seems fine.

Using Internet Explorer and winzip 8.1 its corrupted.

I saved it to disk from IE and again using winzip, it came up corrupted. However, using 7-zip, I was able to open the archive. (dont know if its all there or not though).

Also, I tried Netscape 7.1 and was able to download fine. I appears to be an issue with using IE to browse these forums.

Its the site

I use IE and d/l 15-25 gigs every 2 days in Zips,RAR's ect.. Someone added some code and forgot something. No big deal .. sooner or later it will be fixed.

Use win-rar 3.x and only have problems here.

Wayne, when you go to download a file, istead of d/l the zip, try to open it and that's where I get the error. I never used to get that. But downloading the file to my system seems to work fine. ;)

Try Chroder's stats hack zip.

Yeah, that is a known bug in Internet Explorer according to the Microsoft Website:

I don't think this exact issue has anything to do with that bug in IE. I can DL attachments in any other vB3 Forum, but just cant get em here. The txt files DL fine. It's just the zips.

Ths is something that has just started happening. So unless everybody's settings changed at the same time (possible but unlikely) the trouble would seem to be on the vb.org side of things.

In my case it fails even when doing what msft says is the 'correct' way to do things.

It's the site. Why might you ask?

Obviously I use vb3, and users uploaded zips. I can easily open those zips using IE (built in). No problem opening them. I came here and found out they are corrupt. *shrugs* I believe it's a site/database problem. The data isn't sent properly, maybe.

I think it is a little far fetched to install another browser, just to get any zip file downloaded.
Opening or downloading, both result in corrupt archives...

ANY ZIP!!!

As this makes 50% of the board useless, some urgent admin attention would be imminent :p

I'm not even using XP right now...

I'm using Server 2003 (which isn't apart of the Article - 308090 errors).

And plus, I checked the file types thing, and it was what it should be.

I just started doing this yesterday afternoon, before that it was working fine and dandy.

Granted everything downloads fine and dandy in FireFox.... there's something that's conflicting between the attachments and IE *shrug*

Actually the cause of the issue is both a combination of IE and the dynamic nature of the files on the server. It seems that mod_deflate has decided to start compressing the ZIP files a second time and IE doesn't understand how to deal with a double compressed file so it is storing it in that manner.

Apparently Gecko based browsers, can deal with this just fine and uncompress the file once before storing it on your hard drive.

It is being worked on but the dynamic nature of the files is making it difficult.

rockergrrl
03-30-2004, 03:40 PM
How come mod_deflate started do double compress the files all of a sudden yesterday afternoon? An uninstall-reinstall needed?

Some people can download it seems because the files are still in their cache. I could download older Zips but ALL the new ones i can't. Its like the Download from Vbulletin.org is getting cut off. I am using a direct download, winrar, and Winzip not too mention save target as and everything. All Corrupt Zips Files.
