Upgrade from 2.2.8 to 2.3.4

Is it possible to make this upgrade without lose my personalisations (traduction and so on) on template? I'm interesting only for personalisations of templates not for hacks.
And, if is possible, from 2.3.4 to 3.0?

I am not 100% sure as I've got no experience, but I think you won't loose customized templates as only the master style gets overwritten -as long as teh templates are compatible.

As for 2.x->3.0: This won't work for sure, as the templates are 100% incompatible.
