Hey :)

We need a kind of news managment :(

Here's what we thought of:

- it should be one single page where all news are displayed. (use the default style/templates)

- the user should be able to search those news (like the threads, posts).

- every newsentry should generate a new thread (for comments etc.).

- the administration should be done via the vB permission systeme (CAN_POST_NEWS)

- rss feed (via external.php??)

OR:

the ability to choose something like "is a newsentry" when you make a thread. and all threads marked with "is a newsentry" are displayed on the newspage.
This would be the best method.

I'd really love to see someone doing this. my community needs that so badly and iam not so much in the vb3 code so i can't do that :(

thanks for reading and thank you if you decide to help me :)

why reinvent the wheel?

there are already some news modifications out there.
most of the time you just have to create a new "news" forum, where the first Post of a new thread is the news, and the rest are comments :)

Hey Stefan :)
i'd like to have that on a seperate page with different categories :)

as you may know from boardunity.de i own a sport community and for that i need news for different sports and that can't be done with your solution :)

It would be very nice to have an option within every thread to display that particular thread on a seperate page (news.php). This page should display the first post for any news (maybe another template), a link to the thread (for comments etc.). It shouldn't be that hard to do or what do you think?

it can be done with my solution as well, just a little modification to the newsportal.

as i did on my own small site: www.strategy-network.de the newscategories are all in one forum, but the difference is by using different threadicons ;)

harte nu?, du ;)

I want my threads to be in their forum, i don't want to have a specific forum for news. :)

I just want to mark a specific thread as "news" and this thread should be displayed on a seperate page.

Xenon - you're a great coder. Really - much better than I'am.
But you should leave the design to others, believe me. Do you? ;)

that design is not made by me, it was by my ex-co-webmaster ;)

but also i in that case i don't design myself, as i'm a purist, and therefore don't like "welldesigned" pages, simple grey, black sites are my favourites :)

Correct...it's not hard to do...why don't you give it a try? All you need is another column in the thread table, a select radio button in the newthread template, a news.php file pulling the info and 2 templates....

like i said, iam not that much into the vB3 code and my changings may let the performance go down. that's why i need the help of an experienced hacker :)

and, of course, it may be a valuable addition for other communities. (if i would do this hack i won't release it due to bad code ;))
