View Full Version : PhotoPost PopUp vB Code

MPDev
01-28-2004, 10:00 PM
This mod provides for a Select popup box which displays thumbnails of a users PhotoPost gallery. Clicking on a thumbnail inserts the vB Code for that image into the text area. NEXT and PREV links are provided to scroll through a users photos (16 displayed at a time).

Mod installed at http://www.photopostdev.com

+ + To Do

vBulletin files to edit: 1
PhotoPost files to add: 1
Queries to Run: 0
Templates to add: 1

+ + Known Issues

Mod assumes PhotoPost and vB are installed into same database. If you have them in seperate databases, you will need to use a mysql_select_db() to switch to PP and then back to vB in the pppanel.php file.

It shows 16 thumbnails at a time. So, the user could scroll through their thumbnails. It sorts from their latest uploads backwards.

I'm looking into writing some converters - if someone has some skillz, I'd be glad to help out, don't know how quick I can get it done with everything on my plate. I haven't run Coppermine or some of the others we've had requests for so will have to get up to speed on those as time permits.

Working on some more mods for vB in the meantime....

I've gotta rain on this parade: I had come really bad support for photopost when I paid for it, and was repeatedly told that if I was unhappy then I could shove it - I kept going back for about 3 weeks to try and get support, but got 3 replies in that time and all basically said "It should work ... you mean it doesn't ? Oh that's a shame ... it should work ..." you get the drift.

So not everyone is happy with Photopost ... maybe it's improved - ?

Natch: This really isn't the place to discuss individual issues but since you brought it up... I found 2 support threads that you started in our forums.

On 11/14/02, you posted a question about bulk uploading, then replied later that day that you resolved the problem. But you asked about a new problem in this same thread - we always ask customers to post a new thread for each and every issue, as replies within a thread are always viewed as part of the initial question.

On 12/9/02, you posted a complaint about private messaging support. We do not now, nor have we ever, provided support via private messaging. I think our lead developer replied to your initial private message, but all support is provided via our email support system or via our forums. After two days of not getting a followup reply via private messaging you posted one followup reply and stopped communicating.

I can locate no other support inquiries for you and I believe your problem was the result of not using the right method of getting support and maybe a bit of impatience. We provide support via our forums and email and strive to competently answer all customer inquiries within 24 hours. Please note as well, we have hired 5 support people since December 2002.

The vast majority of our customers are satisfied with our software and our support. If anyone isn't, I wholeheartedly invite you to use our contact form (http://www.photopost.com/ppost_contact.pl) to contact me

I'll be honest, for the longest time I never checked my PMs. Our forum list was so long and the PM indicator was at the very bottom that I never really paid much attention. I turned off PMs, but then I couldn't send them, so turned it back on. While I try to respond to PMs, IMs, emails, tickets and whatever else people send my way - it's not always possible to accomidate everyone. Using our forums or trouble ticket system allow other support people to be involved and lets me focus on development.

So, if I didn't respond to your PMs, you have my apologies.

Hey Michael, nice hack. How many folks do you assume have their PP and vB info in the same DB?

Gimme that header-inc that allows for vB to store css in files (and not blow-up PP integration) and I'll say all kinds of (nice) stuff about you here, lol.

FWIW; PP is really good stuff, support is fine. It's not "instant" like we may be used to on this site and others, but comes in a very reasonable amount of time.

This is not intirely true. Have a look at your own forums. Where are the complete instructions that WORK?

I have used your contact form an await your response.

For those that have not purchased this gallery yet but are thinking of getting it? Do your homework first. Ask them to provide you with COMPLETE instructions that work. Not half answers explaining things like "search this forum, the answer is here" Or "Look at photopost dev it works there just fine"

Unfortunately I've seen plenty of posts on their support forum where their final solution to a problem is "well it works for most people...." ;)

If you are running in two databases you would insert:

mysql_select_db("photopostdb"); at the top of the script and
mysql_select_db("vbdatabase"); at the bottom of the script.

This is probably a good thing to document for the final verison.

FYI, PhotoPost.Com contains complete installation and user guides in the Members Area. And I take strong exception to Nighteyes claim - it's simply not true. I'd ask that those responding in this thread respect the Moderators wishes so as to not cause any further problems.

I am looking forward to try this hack out, but will give it some more time to evolve first.

I have just finished integrating PhotoPost with vB3 RC3 that share same db. With some minor adjustments left to do, I have to say that PhotoPost and vBulletin are now a deadly combination and future looks bright for both.

Check them out @:

I like the idea, but if someone moves a photo from folder to folder, wouldn't all the remote links break?

This isn't a problem with the hack, but how photopost stores its data. Moving the physical files around on the server is inefficient - that's what databases are for!

Nice, if PP would have more of these things, but it happens so rarely, that they listen to the client wishes, they don't really upgrade it and it's quite sad. Something should be done about that! For example full style template integration with vB3 - that would save PhotoPost project ...

By comparison with what we're used to with vBulletin, PhotoPost has been slow to develope, but the last few releases have made some good improvements. The hacks are starting to increase and get better.

I have some issues with the support, but as Dean has already pointed out this isn't the place for complaining and only detracts from the support for this hack.

I may give this a try after I make the move to vB3.

I'll give this a shot, I have VB3.0 and PP using the same database.

I would like to say that I've been a PP customer for a long time and Scott and Michael have both been very responsive to my questions and have provided top-notch assistance when I need it. Sometimes other members on the PP forums reply in a somewhat rude fashion, but that has happened here as well. I once asked Scott for help via e-mail, and while he kindly reminded me that support is supposed to be done via the PP website/forums, he still offered a solution in his response.

VB combined with PP makes for one heck of a nice website.
I will give this a go and see if I can make it work.

opener.htmlwindow.focus();
opener.htmlbox.selection.createRange().pasteHTML("<img src='" + UBBCode + "'>");
self.close;
}catch(errorObject){
BodyVal = opener.document.vbform.message.value;
opener.document.vbform.message.value = 'https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/';
}

}
</script>
</head>
<body style="margin:0px">

<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="100%">
<tr>
<td class="tcat" colspan="4">PhotoPost PopUp</td>
</tr>
$photopanel
</table>

</body>
</html>

Find this in your pppanel.php:
$photo_name = str_replace( $theext, "", $photo );

And I replaced the following two lines with this (I think that is all I replaced... someone let me know if not)

if ( $medsize > 0 ) $imgurl = "{$data_dir}/$ppcat/{$user}{$photo_name}-med{$theext}";
else $imgurl = "{$data_dir}/$ppcat/{$user}{$photo}";

Basically, they just took out the [img] tags.

I think thats it... Its working on mine anyway. Let me know if anyone has problems and I will see what else I may have changed.

As I thought... The problems were already in the pppanel file, but I have sorted them.

open pppanel.php and find this:

$user = $bbuserinfo['userid'];
Afterward, add this:
$page=$_REQUEST['page'];

That will sort out your page problems

now for the no pictures thing...

same file, find this:
if ( $numrows < 16 ) $nextpage = 0;
aftwerward, I put this:
$y=0;

then find this:
$i++;
and afterward, add:
$y=1;

then find this:
if ( $i == 0 ) {
and change it to:
if ( $y == 0 ) {

Geesh, I'm often critized for releasing updates too quickly, but never not quick enough! We've been releasing new updates every 3 months or so, but I should probably slow down..... the whole "not listening to customers" is a boldfaced lie and borders on the laughable.

hmmm Thats freaky. It doesnt do that with me. It simply adds the next picture below the first (either when I choose another pic from the same window or from a new pop up window).
Is this in the wysiwyg editor?

obsidian
06-05-2004, 12:31 AM
Hmmm I am using the standard editor. I think I see the difference though. When I switched everything over to the wysiwyg editor it inserts the whole picture and then closes the popup box. With the standard editor it inserts the bbcode for that line and leaves the popup window open. If you select another it overwrites the original code. If you close the box and then open it to select another it does the same thing. So unless I have done something wrong, which is a possibility, there is something screwy with the popup on the standard editor.

rstan

I've made a lot of changes to try and get this working the way I want it to... clicking the image inserts the thumbnail into the post which then links to the gallery page for it. Oh, and I changed the number of posts to 12 in rows of 3.

Sorry to hear that - although, most people who make such a claim rarely turn out to be anyone with any real experience with our support staff. I've never heard anyone say "sorry we cant help you" and if it did happen, I would be very disappointed as we spend alot of time and money on support.

I'll be redoing the mod for the upcoming PP5 release and will post it when its ready. I'm using it on PhotoPostDev.Com with no problems so far, but am in the process of updating with the current security releases.

More than likely, if you aren't getting the popup, then you didn't modify the code properly. It's not an overly complicated mod; but one that I'll look at again soon.

It's a shame to see what is supposed to be a support thread for a hack turn into a slam against the product it supports. IMHO this has no place in the thread. I am glad to see that certain Premium Hack threads give the hack writer moderator privileges so this off-topic tripe can be removed. I am just glad there is an ignore feature. I used it twice on this page.

I come to vbulletin.org to get support for hacks and learn about new ones. If you're here to rant and complain about another product, maybe this particular thread isn't the best place to do it.

I agree, Matt; I thought I'd check in and see what was going on in this thread since I was getting ready to do an update and I find all this "junk"?

You post a mod, 100 people try it and 80 get it working with no problems. 18 give up for one reason or another and 2 people decide to be jerks about it. So what happens? The two people ruin it for everyone else.

It's funny how you came running here to post within hours of two people slamming your product support. You hadn't posted in here in ages before that. :D I've licensed your photopost product since it was in Perl many years ago so I can assure you I have vast experience of dealing with your support personnel. ;) It really hasn't improved much since it was virtually a one-man show.

That said, the software is very good and I licensed another copy only in December. So if you know what you're doing and are unlikely to ever need to call on support I highly recommend it. :p

Maybe it's not entirely appropriate posting here... but I still believe it's useful knowledge for those frustrated trying to obtain support for your hack(s) on here to know the support is bad via official channels too, so unlikely you're going to get much on vbulletin.org.

Guys, this thread is not for a platform to discuss the support over at photopost.com. It's to provide support for this modification. If you feel begrudged by a product or a service that relates to vBulletin you are quite welcome to post it up (as long as you do so in a polite manner) in the lounge to warn others of your experience.

Please keep the criticism aside from this thread from now on and leave it for specific support :)

Cheers,
- Dean

Thank you, Dean. Since this is my thread, I feel entitled to have the last word since nighteyes continues to misrepresent our support. I'll let it go with a few words from our customers:

I own 3 photopost licenses and 1 classified license, and have been a member here since April 2002. I have had numerous questions relative to technical support and have always been treated exactly like I would expect to be treated, being a paying customer. Scott, Michael and Chuck are excellent at what they do. The popularity of 2 of my sites is due solely to photopost and the PP crew.

i've had nothing but great support and good advice concerning PP.. well worth every penny IMO.

omegatron was friendly and helpful for my queries, though i had been lil rude to him

Yes, omegatron = chuck.

One of the most helpful people i've ever met

My post count indicates the number of times I've nagged you over the years, and Carole and I want to thank you for giving us so much of your time. (If somebody else had to wait for support it's probably our fault LOL).

Seriously, I can't even comprehend the stamina it takes to contend with multiples of me's at a time.

Its unfortunate if nighteyes had a negative experience with our support - it's certainly not from a lack of effort (but maybe a lack of sleep).

I'll have a new version of this mod out soon.

This mod has been updated for use with PhotoPost 5 and is currently being used on PhotoPostDev.Com.

Changes in vB3 up to 3.0.6 required some changes to the pppanel.php script to take the variables and the filenames have been updated to work with the new PP5 filenames (no -thumb and -med filename changes).

Michael, since I'm not using the Beta 5 yet, any way of posting what changes need to be made to the script so the correct file & filename structure will work with the older version 4.86?

I figured what was wrong. I don't know if how I got it working matches the original code or not but it works.
Here's what I needed to do.

in pppanel.php, find:
while ( $thisphoto = $DB_site->fetch_array($myphotos) ) {

under that, put:
$theext = get_ext( $thisphoto['bigimage'] );

next, find:
if ( $medsize > 0 ) $imgurl = "{$data_dir}/$ppcat/{$user}{$photo_name}-med{$theext}";
else $imgurl = "{$data_dir}/$ppcat/{$user}{$photo}";

$mthumb = "<img border=\"0\" src=\"{$data_dir}/{$ppcat}/thumbs/$photo\" alt=\"\" />";

and replace with:

To make clickable thumbnails in posts
if ( $medsize > 0 ) $imgurl = "[*url={$data_dir}/$ppcat/{$user}{$photo}]{$data_dir}/$ppcat/{$user}{$photo_name}-thumb{$theext}[/url*]";
else $imgurl = "https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/";

$mthumb = "<img border=\"1\" src=\"{$data_dir}/{$ppcat}/$user$photo_name-thumb$theext\" alt=\"\" />";
(Removing the * in the [*url][/url*]

And need to change the template,
Find:
opener.document.vbform.message.value = BodyVal + '' + UBBCode + '';
replace with:
opener.document.vbform.message.value = BodyVal + UBBCode;
Or if you want to have space between the thumbs, replace with this:
opener.document.vbform.message.value = BodyVal + UBBCode + ' ';

or:

To place medium images in the post or full sized if medium not available
if ( $medsize > 0 ) $imgurl = "{$data_dir}/$ppcat/{$user}{$photo_name}-med{$theext}";
else $imgurl = "https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/";

$mthumb = "<img border=\"1\" src=\"{$data_dir}/{$ppcat}/$user$photo_name-thumb$theext\" alt=\"\" />";

If your DB's are separate but have the same password, change the FROM pp_photos in the query.
$query = "SELECT id,cat,title,bigimage,medsize FROM pp_photos WHERE userid ='{$user}' AND storecat=0 ORDER BY date DESC LIMIT $page,16";

to FROM databasename.photos so it looks sort of like this:
$query = "SELECT id,cat,title,bigimage,medsize FROM databasename.photos WHERE userid ='{$user}' AND storecat=0 ORDER BY date DESC LIMIT $page,16";

(Changing the databasename to match what your PP database name is)

Side note.. I had to include the [*img][*/img] tags in the code to get them to input if you get two sets, remove the ones inthe aove codes.

Has anybody gotten this to work on 3.0.7? I installed it and I get this error:

Database error in vBulletin 3.0.7:

Invalid SQL: SELECT id,cat,title,bigimage,medsize FROM pp_photos WHERE userid ='1' AND storecat=0 ORDER BY date DESC LIMIT 0,16
mysql error: Table 'forumdbname.pp_photos' doesn't exist

mysql error number: 1146

Date: Tuesday 02nd of August 2005 12:30:28 PM
Script: http://www.leetforum.com/forumz/pppanel.php

When you say use the same database are you reffering to just the username/registration system or more?

P.S. ++++ you all (2) who think photopost sucks. I have had very good support from them and have made multiple suggestions that have ended up in later versions. (www.GamersGallery.com)
