View Full Version : [VB3 RC3] Bump thread and make thread older

Bumping a thread is something you eventually need. A thread that has some days
old, it is in the second page of your forum or only a few positions below and you want
attention to be in it again. Posting makes the thread on top, but you don't want
to post in the thread.

Additionally I have added an option called "make thread older" or "debump". This makes
your thread one day older, making room for new threads in the top of the forumdisplay.
Why this? It is useful for closed threads that you don't want to be taking your
user's attention anymore, yet you don't want to delete them. Just send them to the
second page, it is the same effect as forgetting about them.

Info for hackers:
You may modify, improve, upgrade, redistribute this hack, include it
in another hack or yours or translate it provided you do it free of
charge and you distribute it in www.vbulletin.org (../) at least, there is no
need to pm me asking for permission
Some portions of the code are (c) Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.

Installed.Care to share what the problem was? It could help me improve the instruction files if something is misleading.

I think it was just a user error on my part. I tried the steps again this time slower, and it worked like a charm.

I think it's my using notepad to do edits of .php files that is my problem :)

This is very cool. Are there any plans for making this HTL compatible? I really want this hack, but HTL compatibility would make it easier for me to deal with.

I really want this hack, but HTL compatibility would make it easier for me to deal with.Once HTL1.1 is released I would make all my hacks HTL compatible. I just don't like having to edit an HTL and a TXT separately. Hacks are updated and new things are added.. after the fourth edit to the HTL and TXT I gave up on the HTL, since that is not enforced in the forums and the TXT is.

Works great on 3.0.1 But one thing. On forumhome is there anyway you can have Last Post column actually show the thread that has been bumped or what ever thread is on top in the actual forum?

It still has the old cached thread still there. And if you click the username of the person in the last post by in the forumhome after bumping a thread you will be brought to the wrong user profile.

You will be brought to the user profile of the first poster of the thread you bumped.

So on the forum home it is showing the cached thread that use to be at the top. How can this be fixed. It is bother a lot of members. Please help. Thanks.

I try to bump something or make it a day older, and all I get is the following message on the next page:

Invalid Action Specified

I thought maybe it was because I editred the postings.php in Dreamweaver, so I did it in Wordpad again and uploaded, but that hasn't done anything to fix the problem. My templates are all working, too.

Samething happened over here, I wonder why..

Use Notepad. I use other editors (wordpad, etc...) and they don't seem to work right, because they might add some junks in the file. Notepad is the editor for editing .php

Is there a way to alter the coding to choose how many days to age a thread? Like to age it a 5 days or 7 days?

Also, when I use the check box to delete several topics, only the first checked box soft deletes. No action is taken on the others that I checked. Is this as designed or did I do something wrong in the install?

Thanks in advance,

** clicks de-install **

Installed and it seemed to work.
Put bumped thread at top of list (and highlighted it as unread).

However, I refreshed the thread and voila, problems with thread ID's.

YabbaDabba keeps looking. . .

Best.Hack.Ever.

Well...not exactly...buy its definitely in my top 5 list :D

We strongly promote reviving older threads at my forum, instead of re-making them, so this is a godsend.

I fairly new to this Vbulletin stuff. Can you direct me where I place the hack. Do I look under Vbulletin options or Styles and Templates.
Step by step direction would help. Code modifications in file "postings.php" Where do I find this option as well as Template modifications in SHOWTHREAD

Marco van Herwaarden

Code modifications in file "postings.php"
This is an edit of a php-file on your server. Use an FTP client to get the file to your local computer, make the edit and re-upload. Make sure you are using an editor that can handle Unix files correct.
Template modifications in SHOWTHREAD
AdminCP->Styles&Templates->Click on '<<>>' behind the style you want to edit->Select the template to edit from the list.

Before I start looking, is Wordpad or note pad OK

Marco van Herwaarden
04-12-2005, 09:24 AM
Wordpad would do i think, notepad not.

Best is to use a real editor like ultraedit (or similar)

Super Cat
04-12-2005, 10:23 AM
Ok have everything done. But when testing the bump it said Invalid Action Specified

I'm wondering; is there a chance you'll port this to vB3.5 (or post a similar hack that will automatically make the topic x days older when it's closed, that would be so great!
