Hello Everyone;

Being a Networking Site, I have struck a deal with Certification studies site for some free study guides for my Registered users.

I am going to post links to the guides on their servers in my members only boards, because of the size of these study guides and my servers limitations for uploads, this is the best way.

But, I'd like to be able to record hits to those links.

So, I'd like to be able to do one of 2 things.

1) A Modification to the Attachment.php and or newattachment template, so I can add a URL to a file on my site already or another site under manage attachments.

2) Add a Link counter for links in the forums.

The reason, is obvious, I want to get an idea of how many people are downloading the guides from my site, Plus this will keep me from having to host these files, which can get huge.

Can anybody help me with this?

Nobody ever replied to this, so I went a different route.

Take a look at this

Notice the Transcender Link and the (Hits counter)

If you are interested in maybe going that way, look here

If you're looking for a Link Directory script, go with vBadvanced Links Directory (http://www.vbadvanced.com/products.php?do=productinfo&p=2). It does everything you're looking for and more.

Actually for links, I went this (http://www.tech-unity.com/forums/links.php) way

It was a rather kewl mod that was never released, I assume because the creator was to busy. but it works great.

I went the other way posted above, because I can give those links via group permission to my users. I only changed the permissions on this one so you (Unregistered Users) could see it. I'll be changing it back shortly.

I set this up, so you not only have to be a registerd user but a member with 5 or more posts before this link is even visable, like my Articles I write! ;)

Glad you found a solution that works for you
