I've removed the link to the external ZIP file.
ZIP files or installation files need to be ATTACHED to hack support threads on vbulletin.org. If the ZIP file is too big, just split the ZIP file into 2 - separate the files into 2 ZIP files.
This prevents unlicensed members access to vBulletin hacks.

erwin why not make the size bigger that we can upload for zip's?
the zips like 1.3 mb can you not up the size for zip's to like 1.5mb and not 1mb? having 2 zip files is going get people all mixed up to where files go and that and after all the total that can be uploaded is 2mb so why can the zip not be that size so people can upload big hacks?

This Bot has to be the funniest and best hack I've ever added to a forum.

In fact he / she is fast becoming my biggest poster ;)
I love it :)

I used this hack back in v2 and my users loved it. Now I'm trying to install it for RC2, and I can't get it to work.
When I try to run the botloader, I get the following message:
-----
Loading startup.xml
DONE LOADING
Inserted 0 categories into database
WARNING! You should password protect the admin directory or remove the botloader.php script or people may be able to abuse your server.
Click here to talk to the bot
execution time: 0.118715

I've reinstalled, chmodded, and re-read the install.txt file countless times to no avail. Any ideas?
Well, it's also to prevent unlicensed users downloading the hack...
If the file size is too large to attach, perhaps edit your post to put the download link inside php tags, then unregistered/licensed users can't see it i don't think?
Might have to try this, seen something similar used on another board, kept people entertained for hours :)

In Admin CP:
Space (in bytes) that a user's total attachment usage may consume (Set to 0 to not have a limit)
It is already set to 0.
We do not have an attachment size limit set for uploads here at vB.org. Any restriction is server-based, and I can do nothing about it.

because i get this:

check the settings for:

Ummm, You do realize that if you do that. Your DB'll become VERY big in less than 1 second (by my guess)...
Because Bot 1 would be replying to Bot 2, then Bot 2 replies to Bot 1, and the cycle starts again.

Theoritically, it is possible. You would have to make a clone of "Alice" and put it up as "Tom" or something, then have fun.
And of course, this is just theory. I'm not going to try and disassemble this hack to figure it out.

Exactly. If you have 2 bots talking to each other, your server will crash. :) The chatbot responds instantly - 2 chat bots responding automatically to each other will crash your server by using up all resources and filling up your database.

Heres the talkerbot.php file i modified before i changed this to be fully acp powered. So just open this file and make the needed changes. You can also allow it to post more often in certain forums over others. By changing the forumid if statement around. Hope this helps you.
NOTE: I made it so the bot will see the posts for the forums hes allowed to post in even if that time he does not post. That way he can keep up with the conversations and learn things.

Right now the changes I have finished on it so far are that it now takes a feild from the forum options page and you can enter in a pecentage and if it is 0 it is disabled for that forum and if not 0 its the percentage of the time that the bot will reply.

Mine doesn't seem to learn anything... Are you sure it's learning???
It would be nice to have a teaching forum or thread. Where subject could be the question, and body could be the answer...
I'm still trying to figure out how to make it learn... There was the Teachbot hack for vb2 that made AIML files and you'd have to rerun botloader and stuff but why not just go right into the DB with it... Of course if you do that then you don't have the AIML for later in case you have to reset, or something....
I was able to port most of Teachbot but got stuck around creating the AIML file.... then started to think that there has to be a better way...
I have no doubt this will happen someday, this is an exciting hack and I'm sure lots of things will be done with it.

Excuse me for being ignorant, but is there a way for the thread starter to keep the robot from doing any replies in a specific thread? Plus a way for a poster to block the robot from replying to their specific post.
And is there a way for people to make a post such as it will automatically call the robot to make a reply.
The rest can be randomized.

Yes that might work but thats not the desired method for doing it. I will work on it and make it a checkbox option for newthread and for newreply. This should be fairly simple to accomplish.

I know this wasn't directed at me, but it's relevant to my issue, so I'm going to jump in. :)
I just realized (by accident, to be honest) that my bot is "working" in the sense that he will reply, but like many others, I'm only getting the "I'm not feeling well response." I have CHMODded all my files. I have edited dbprefs.php with the required values, and I have (tried to) run botloader.php. Basically, the script is not loading the AIML files into the DB. If I recall from the vb2 version of this hack, that process should take a significant amount of time (20-30 mins), and I'm getting the "Process complete" message instantly.
Do you (or does anybody) know what could be causing this to happen?

Good hack! Thank you...works great.
Question though. I have TomBot working in one forum on the board. There is ONE thread in said forum, that needs to remain in that forum where TomBot is...but I do not want TomBot to respond to that 1 specific thread. Is there ANY way possible to have TomBot exclude a specific thread?
Also, is there a way that we can make him not count towards the overall post count in the forum?

Making him not count towards the overall post count would not really work to good since vb by default if you ever updated forum information would include his posts in. Now for excluding a certain thread i will post some code for that later.
Also on the botloader returning right away I will look into this. Plus are you sure you set the correct path to the aiml files?

It appears that was the problem. I had set the path to the AIML files using http://www.myforums.com/forums/alice/aiml ... just changed it to use the absolute path, and botloader appears to be loading now.
Can't believe I didn't think of that earlier. :) Thanks a lot!
How about a german version? please :)

Hi guys, got it all set up and working well but i was wondering how you could make it so that the bot will reply after afew seconds/minutes as replying right away makes it look auto which it is, but we dont wanna give that away do we :) lol
also if i login as the bot, how do i make it so it doesnt reply to itself? I need to get it to post some threads not just reply if ppl are gonna beleive its a real user :) lol
thanks

This I can take care of when i do the do not let bot reply code. I will make a little extra code for you so that only the person logged in as the bot sees it. But not having it be auto would be a bit more work. I will see what I can do about this for you. Please keep in mind that right now this is not my hack to really be releasing new versions for and stuff. That is why as of right now i have not yet released the new version that i have made. Im still waiting on a reply from the guy who released this as beta so till then.

Well, I'm not getting the "Process Complete" page spit back at me right away again, but now it's not completing at all.
If memory serves from the vb2 version, after running botloader.php, I should see a page showing which AIML files have been loaded. Right now, I see nothing...just whatever page I was on before I went to run the script (ie, Google.com, etc.). The browser status bar shows something loading--slowly, as it should, I think--but the script hangs at around 2/5 of the way along. The last time I tried, I let it sit there for an hour or so, before botloaded.php finally skipped to a 404.
Since I'm the only one who seems to be having this problem, I'm sure it's something I've screwed up on my end, but if anybody can give me any clues about where might be an appropriate place to look when I get home tonight, that would be great. :)

I got it up and running, the only problem I see is that when tombot replied to a new thread, on forum home it showed a blank title, and didn't show the title until a real person replied to the thread.
Any ideas?

This is more then likely do to your servers setting of some timeout limit that is being hit cuasing termination of the script.

While addons are nice it never hurts to build them in and have an on/off option where there this small. Unlike the store hack where they were usualy big.

I have figured out how to make it work for if your using the bot account. But not sure how to do the delay without cuasing more problems.
I could do it via cron but that would add all the posts at once each hour so that wouldn't be to good.

Poking around in the startup.xml file, I'm wondering if editing it to only load a few AIML files at a time (ie, replacing * with 0.aiml - 9.aiml, run the script, edit startup.xml, repeat until done) would be an effective way around this (assuming of course that what you say is, in fact, the problem)?
At least it *appears* that such a capability is there, but I know nothing of XML, so I'm just trying to read between the lines (of code). :)

That might work. Last time when i had problems with it timing out i removed some of the aiml files and added them in like chunks of five.

This would eatup alot of cpu power for a bit yes. Seeing as its running 300,000 queries. I would try only adding a few aiml files at a time till you get them all added.

Did you run the botloader.php file??? If not did you do the edits to the dbprefs.php file. If not do both of them. If you ran botloader.php but did not edit dbprefs.php please edit this file then run the botloader again. If you did thoose edits but did not run botloader.php please run this script. Both of these files are found in the alice/src/admin/ folders
Already did that..

Do you have any nice tips on how to make your bot "learn"? Like what are some good questions or statements to post so that the bot learns? Is there a "formula" so to speak, that shows how the bot learns?
Also, in the forum that he is in...post counts are disabled. However, the bot continues to gain post counts. Actual live members cannot increase their post counts...but the bot does. How can I fix this?

Otherwise i only can install this bot as english-teacher what would take away 80% of the fun.

Okay so check the file path to that file in the _talkbot.php file. Make sure there are no typos and that you used the full domain name not absolute path.
Everything looks good.. I suppose I should delete everything and start over...

Apparently what is happening is that when a member posts more often than 45 seconds between posts, the post does not get published, as set in vB, but the bot still replies to it.
