View Full Version : Promotion System Enhancements

I really like the Promotion system - it's very useful. There are a few things that could be added to enhance functionality though:
Ability to demote to a lesser usergroup if less than a certain number of posts are made or less than a certain level of reputation is a attained by a certain date.
Addition of short customizeable "Tags" assigned on a per usergroup basis and visible in the postbit only to Admins to differentiate between members of different groups who have the same user titles, or who use custom titles.
Option to make usergroups "stealthy" so that Mods with access to User Profiles can't see the assigned usergroup(s).
Per user option which when enabled would prevent the user from being promoted regardless of current usergroup(s) or promotion schemes in effect. Something like "User Is Promotable" yes/no
Now that I think of it, the custom Admin-only postbit tag would also be nice as a per user option for any number of uses...or even with the option to make it visible to admin/supermod/mod ...

I want to have the function of #1 depending on their reputation.. basically i'd like to have peoples access to the forums restricted bit by bit as their rep goes down.

I would like to see people promoted/demoted based on 'posts-per-day' average.
Demotion is generally a good idea.
I am hanging out for demotions to be introduced, or a hack to fix the problem of not being able to have post count promotions reversed for users whos post count has dropped below the promotion limit.
It's a bit of a joke that vB3 does not make it possible to demote a user based on post count.
I require registered users to reach a post count of 20 in order to become a full user and access all areas. Of course this is open to abuse from users who can simply fast-track their promotion by posting 20 pointless messages. My moderators then have to delete the rubish posts, and the user's post count goes down as a result, but they still remain in the promoted group, even though their post count is below the required limit for that group!
I have tried setting up an opposing promotion (demotion), but the "less than" statement, only works with reputation promotions! :ermm:
Anyone make a fix for this?

I have a forum on my board called, The Island - pretty popular, too. Basically it's similar to this reality tv trash; being able to badmouth anyone and then others leave rep based on the quality of your demeanor, except you get voted OFF the island via reputation.
I also had the same problem with demoting, but I was finally able to get a fix by using default usergroups and forum permissions with promotions.
I created a promotion that would bump someone into primary usergroup 'A' at a reputation of 10, and another promotion that would bump someone into primary usergroup 'B' at a reputation of negative 10. using the Forum Permission Editor, I denied 'B' access and granted 'A'. Then I increased the frequency of the scheduled task for promotions. as long as the primary usergroups were the same in nature (except one was manually denied access to TheIsland) then things worked fine. I could also tweak the rep settings for each usergroup (if one could give negative or even give rep at all, etc....)
What I'd like to get my hands on is a tool that could manage the reputation system better. being able to mass delete reputation (or ticking off a box next to each rep statement via the 'View Reputation' after a search and then mass deleting....) would be way nice.
anything out there like that? or any other admin tool that would come in handy for reputations?

I like those suggestions but has anyone made a promotion addition that allows you to go by refferals?

One more feature can be added possibly.
If a user is promoted an option can be given to send an auto pm/email where administrator can pre-select the data to be entered in the content,
its easier to let users know when they are promoted from 1 usergroup to another based on there posts or reputation or other factors.

I was a bit surprised to find that this wasn't easily achieveable. I guess there must be some way of doing this rather crudely, but I am not really technically proficient enough to even attempt to do so.
Certainly, the ability to demote someone who has failed to produce x posts in x amount of days would be useful to many forum owners as it would help reduce the problems of "lurkers/leechers". I hope someone can figure this out, because I could really find a good use for it :)

I've got my Demotion System working on my board. I'll install it on my production board later today and release it here if no bug found. :)
