View Full Version : Link Forum Hit Counters

zajako

This hack shows a counter for how many hits each link forum has. THis helps show how much traffic you have given that site.
If it is 0 it hides it so as not to make it look bad.

that may be true but it takes 2 mins to update for code changes, and it takes hours to add new features. Keep in mind i dont have hours.

It is counting up in counts of 2. Any reason why? Maybe since i have them as subforums under a links forum?

zajako

that shoulnt be any sort of cause as it adds one just before loading the page

which version do you use, the one for rc1,2?
cause they change the output with them.

i don t think theres a hack out yet to make some banners, but im sure there will be eventuallly.

it shoulnt matter that its a subforum either. I have yet to fully test it on rc2 cause i dont use it, but ill look into it, verify that you made the edits correctly, till i can get to look myself to see if this is a know issue.
im working on many things at the moment so i cant spend much time fixing or working on hacks >.<

A fine modification of this would be an add-on, that counts new posts from my last visit from every main catagory (forum, adding all the subforum values) and generating a nice data table.

Attached is the updated version for vbulletin 3 gold.

Changes:

The Hit counters is now showing instead of the lastpost empty box
The hit counter is template driven so you can edit the look and feel to suit best your forum style.
Template is cached so no extra query is added to your forumhome.

Big thank you to Zajako for letting me post this updated version.

Screenshot Below

p.s. if your link counter is not showing up at first simply click on your link to increase the counter to 1.

Enjoy

SamirDarji
10-20-2004, 04:31 PM
To make any link open in a new window, use target=windowName. I forgot exactly where you put it, but it is part of the <a href html tag.

I thought about doing the 3 column thing too, but I think it was more trouble than it was worth to do it. I justed looked into it and it requires more than just a template change, so I didn't try it.

It looks like to me that the link is hard coded into forumdisplay.php (I dont see anywhere in the template fourmdisplay where it creates the link for the links only forum. I dont want my reg forums to open up in a new window just want the links one to

I actually just tried what I was thinking and it won't work. What I was thinking was to put code where it asks for the link url in the forum manager.

To be able to get links to open in a new window, you have to find where it builds the actual html link using the information from the forum itself. Then you could change that piece of code and make it<a href="http://www.huntsvillecarscene.com" target=new>
instead of<a href="http://www.huntsvillecarscene.com">

look for:

// check if this forum is a link to an outside site
if (trim($foruminfo['link']))
{
exec_header_redirect($foruminfo['link']);
}

######################################

// check if this forum is a link to an outside site
if (trim($foruminfo['link']))
{
$DB_site->query("Update " . TABLE_PREFIX . "forum Set linkhits=linkhits+1 Where forumid='$foruminfo[forumid]'");

It has been moved from forumdisplay.php to global.php

:)

BamaStangGuy
01-03-2005, 11:27 PM
Fix:

Find in global.php:

exec_header_redirect($foruminfo['link']);

Replace with:

$DB_site->query("Update " . TABLE_PREFIX . "forum Set linkhits=linkhits+1 Where forumid='$foruminfo[forumid]'");
exec_header_redirect($foruminfo['link']);

This should work let me know if you have any problems

You do not do the forumdisplay part in the instructions

You replace the global.php instructions with those above :)
