Features:

Displays vBCodes and other post code allowances. (Depending on what the use is allowed in their signatures [for now])
Admins can edit or delete shouts from the Admin CP.
Built-in /me code.
Archive page and IFrame on forumhome for shouting and reading.
Archive page has multiple pages.
Stats on archive page.

I plan to have added the following by the time vB 3.0.0 is released:

Uses phrases for the Admin CP and shoutbox.
Users can edit and delete their own shouts.
User and usergroup permissions for the shoutbox. (canview, canshout etc)
Seperate options for vBCodes in the shoutbox, instead of the same ones as for signatures.
More options in the Admin CP. (mass delete, mass edit etc)

This has been tested on vB3 Gamma and RC 1

A demo can be seen here:

Its very nice, and it works 98%. but there is a problem, a minimal one however.

In Who is online page, When a member is on the forum index page, it shows that they are viewing the shoutbox when they are actually viewing the forum home.

I hope you add the function to shout on the forumhome as in Pose21on's chatbox that would turn it into a great interactive communication device. It would be even greater when the messages appear without a refresh as in IRC chats. :)

Sorry about the users online locations.
Replace your shoutbox.php file with the one attached to fix the problem.

I've updated the zip file so there shouldn't be any problems with the users online in the future.

Put the new shout.php in and am still having a problem with the Who's Online. Other than that this hack is amazing. Such a great alternative to Chat Rooms, which, IMO, are unreliable. My users are raving that it is great how every member can access it.

BRAVO! *installs*

For the bottom scroll, try changing the table width in the shoutbox_main template to 98%.

I'm still working on the location thing...
I know it's the shoutbox IFrame, so I might have to take that out and change it so it's part of the forum homepage.

Lord Les

Tried the change to 98% still bars.. :)

Tried the change to 98% still bars.. :)same here

@ Lord Les if you go to the shoutbox_iframe
and find
src="shoutbox.php?$session[sessionurl]do=main" scrolling="auto" and turn scrolling to no insted of auto, it turns the bars off
looks better but i would like the one bar on the side as well

thuffner

Yeah the 98% thing fits all the text on the frame perfectly, but does not get rid of the scrollbar...

monstergamer

i had the answer along

in shoutbox_iframe

find
<frame name="shoutview" id="chat" src="shoutbox.php?$session[sessionurl]do=main" scrolling="auto" marginwidth="5" marginheight="5" noresize="noresize" frameborder="0">
and replace with
<frame name="shoutview" id="chat" src="shoutbox.php?$session[sessionurl]do=main" scrolling="yes" marginwidth="5" marginheight="5" noresize="noresize" frameborder="0">

worked for me
now the only thing i see needing fixed is the Unknown Location thing

@ Black Vivi ... I am running vB RC2 and have just installed your shoutbox .. all went well and the shoutbox works perfectly .. however .. I still have the problem with all Logged in users appearing, on Who is Online, as Viewing the Shoutbox, even though they are elsewhere.

I have tried replacing the shoutbox.php, with both the updated versions .. but still the problem persists. Can you throw any light on a possible solution please ;)

Edit .. all is Ok Now M8 .. looks as though it was a server prob .. uploaded the file a few times and it seems to have cured the problem .. Keep up the good work :up: :cool:

old code

Open the template FORUMHOME
Find this:

<td class="tcat" colspan="2">

</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
<!-- end shoutbox -->

<br />

My new code (replace it)

<!-- shoutbox -->
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="$stylevar[tablewidth]" align="center">

If anyone cares, in order to make this 100% XHTML 1.0 Verified, you'll need to edit FORUMHOME:

Find:

<iframe src="shoutbox.php?$session[sessionurl]do=iframe" width="100%" height="120" scrolling="no" border="0" frameborder="0" name="shoutbox"></iframe>

Replace with:

<iframe src="shoutbox.php?$session[sessionurl]do=iframe" width="100%" height="120" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" name="shoutbox"></iframe>

* NOTE: '' border="0" '' is removed, as it's not valid for <iframe> -- hence why it fails the XHTML 1.0 Validation.

* TIP: Use http://validator.w3.org/ to verify your site for XHTML 1.0.

Could you add the feature that I can define (maybe in shoutbox.php) a user/mod with userid and this user has the possibility to delete entries directly with an "delete"-link under each shout-entry?

To me, that's a huge bummer because the userid is not even recorded in the database. There is absolutely no trace of who posted the text.

I would love for this hack to have either:

1. Cut off the ability for the invis users to use the SB
or
2. At least log the true userid in the database.

I am leaning towards #1 as being a better and cleaner solution though.

Yes i did have access to the shoutbox.php and I tested it with a shout and it worked . Although I'm a little confused about how to get it to show on the index.php page of the forums ?

Ok I have installed this hack on rc3. All is working well . Just one issue .. After editing index.php for the admincp, you loose access to the admincp . comes up with a blank page when trying to get to it. So for now I replaced the orignal index.php in the folder and all is ok . Now when you need to edit or delete posts in the shoutbox you need to go to admincp/shout.php manually and then do your editing from there . This is no biggie just glad that its working on rc3, but if anyone has found a resolution to this conflict please post your findings .. thanks

Hmmm do the shoutbox permissions get added to usergroup or should i add it myself?I didn't make any for this version. In the new version (which I am hoping to release tonight), has built in usergroup permissions, and admin permissions. If you know how to add them and you don't want to wait for the new release (which I think would be better), then do whatever you want with it.

It is possible to show the shoutbox and the shoutbox.php only to admins, super moderators and moderators?That will be in the new version.

i know that i have the / me code in the shoutbox
and i dont know if you update the zip but when i use the / me code it dos not show my name or time.... just shows the / meare you putting it in as "/me" or "/ me" (without the quotes), because you should be putting it in as the first. If that's not the problem, have you modified the code at all?

are you putting it in as "/me" or "/ me" (without the quotes), because you should be putting it in as the first. If that's not the problem, have you modified the code at all?i am putting "/me"

I made a little modification to allow users to see it in all displays. I took the portion you are supposed to put in the Forumhome template and put it in the Navbar template instead. Heres the Navbar template so you can see what I did. I forgot to mention this is RC4. <script type="text/javascript">

ht[0].style.filter = "progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.BasicImage(grays cale=1)";

I believe be "EVB's" you are refering to mine, which was released here, at vB.nl, and at EvB, right?

Well, here's what I think. My shoutbox hack is completely free as is this one. It has a lot of features and permissions, a lot more than this one currently has. However, this one has cleaner HTML as well, and I believe Black Vivi is adding a lot of the features I have into his shoutbox.

When it comes down to it, it's merely personal preference.

A stupid question, and probably right in front of my face...but where in the coding can I change the backgorund behind the shouts? Im using an image for my background on my forums, and do not wish it to be in the shoutbox as well.

Is there anyway to limit the amount of shouts displayed in the Iframe? About 10 would be ample.

in shoutbox.php
replace this:
$shouts = $DB_site->query("
SELECT s.*, u.username
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "shout s
LEFT JOIN " . TABLE_PREFIX . "user u ON (u.userid = s.userid)
ORDER BY dateline DESC, shoutid DESC LIMIT 25
");
with this:
$shouts = $DB_site->query("
SELECT s.*, u.username
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "shout s
LEFT JOIN " . TABLE_PREFIX . "user u ON (u.userid = s.userid)
ORDER BY dateline DESC, shoutid DESC LIMIT 10
");

and change the 10 to the amount of shouts you want to show

the installer and upgrader aren't working properly at the moment, but theres only 1 problem with the scripts, so the new version should be released soon

After installation I lost the NAV bar on my main page. When I go to the forums I can see it. Any ideas on what to check? I have enclosed a screenshot.

Also how is the best way to move the shout box to the bottom of the page?

have a localhost to test things on its a lot better then relying on a host

The board that i'm going to install this hack on is running vb2 rc4. When i tried to execute the install file it told me it was not intended for the version i'm running. I did not proceed. My question is i see others have installed this hack on vb3. Should i continue and if so what should i look for as far as problems etc.

thanks

Can somebody PLEASE tell me how to stop the body's back ground image from being placed inside the shoutbox?!?!? Ive looked at the templates 100 times, but couldnt see anything. In vb2 I knew the variable for the body, but with VB3 im lost!! Just got done making a style, and the backgroound just ruins it.

there is a security issue with this shoutbox. People can post shouts logged in or not.
One of the admins on my site, Sauron, found this:
<html><title>Shoutbox Flaw</title>
<!-- This little flaw allows anyone to post information to the shoutbox -->
<!-- from anywhere on the Web, whether they are registered users or not -->
<!-- [Sauron] -->
<body>
<!-- The markup is copied directly from vBulletin -->
<p>Enter what you want to send to the shoutbox:</p>
<form action="http://www.yoursite.com/forum/shoutbox.php" method="post" name="vbform">
<input type="hidden" name="do" value="doaddnew" />
<table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0">
<tr><td width="70%" align="left">
<input type="text" name="message" value="" class="bginput" style="width:80%;" />
<input type="submit" value="Shout" class="button" />
</td>
</form>
</body></html>

put that in an html page and you can shout. make sure you change the url on it.

small problem... this no longer exists in vb3.0.3:
"Find this:

if (can_administer('canadminthreads'))
{
$printhr = true;
construct_nav_option($vbphrase['subscription_manager'], 'subscriptions.php?do=modify', '|');
construct_nav_option($vbphrase['add_new_subscription'], 'subscriptions.php?do=add');
construct_nav_group($vbphrase['subscriptions'], '<hr />');

Edit the file admincp/index.php like the following

Find
// ***
if (can_administer('canadminusers'))
{
$printhr = true;
construct_nav_option($vbphrase['subscription_manager'], 'subscriptions.php?do=modify', '|');
construct_nav_option($vbphrase['add_new_subscription'], 'subscriptions.php?do=add');
construct_nav_option($vbphrase['test_communication'], 'diagnostic.php?do=payments');
construct_nav_group($vbphrase['subscriptions'], '<hr />');
}

Change to

// ***
if (can_administer('canadminusers'))
{
$printhr = false;
construct_nav_option($vbphrase['subscription_manager'], 'subscriptions.php?do=modify', '|');
construct_nav_option($vbphrase['add_new_subscription'], 'subscriptions.php?do=add');
construct_nav_option($vbphrase['test_communication'], 'diagnostic.php?do=payments');
construct_nav_group($vbphrase['subscriptions'], '<hr />');
}
// ***
$printhr = true;
construct_nav_option('Shout Manager', 'shout.php?do=modify', '|');
construct_nav_group('Shoutbox', '<hr />');

Credit to me plz. Have fun :D

After using this hack for a few weeks, I have detected a problem!

If you Min the shoutbox and then leave the site, when you come back to the site, and click to re-open the shoutbox, I get an "Internet Explorer" error, and it closes the window.

Give it a try on my site:
Goto: http://www.women4fitness.com/forums/
Click the Min button on the Shoutbox (upper right hand corner)
Then exit the website
Then go back to: http://www.women4fitness.com/forums/
And open the Shoutbox (upper right hand corner)

You should get an error

Hope someone can help

Thanks

Well now upgraded to 3.0.5, and still using this one.
It seems to be the easiest for me to install, since it's the first one I did install.
I'm just trying to figure out how to add a smilie-box on it on the forumhome now. :D

Any ideas?
