Yeah. One where members can upload multiple cars.
I'm trying to set up a car registry for classic Opels. (It seems like a lot of Opel sites use vB) Where we can track model changes by VIN. Quite a few members own more than one model. I tried working with the time slip database hack but got stuck when it only took one car per member. Photos are not necessary.

You can make this with Photopost. www.photopost.com.
Every user has his own album and can upload pics. PP can be fully integrated into vb3 and looks like a board on your main page.
Its really great.
On the webpage you find some examples and there are alreayd vb3 boards using it.

I'm more interested in viewing/sorting the database of car info. Registered member submits a form with their car(s) info. It gets placed into database with the results viewable on a web page and editable by mods/admins. Link to photos would be a great option.

I took a look at photopost and the integration examples. Photopost is great for pictures of cars, but is it usefull if you want to create an entry with info about your cars without a picture?
My vehicle registry hack will be along the lines of what oly51 wants with pictures being optional.

You mean something like this? Nice Job on combining the two and nice job on your site.
My needs are for members to be able to list info for multiple vehicles. I tried tweaking the Evills1's Timeslip database hack but got hung up on the more than one vehicle part.
For example, I have a list with info on over 150 old Opels that we want to publish so we can try to determine when certain model changes happened. Members would add their info to that file.

02-15-2004, 02:43 AM
I don't know why that would be an issue?
I don't think you could use the profilefields for this tho. That is the problem. You would have to create a new table and new interface. It's actually pretty basic, but you won't be using any vb stuff except maybe to join on the user table.

I'm glad this still has life in it ... I am still needing this. If it helps color and specific build info would be really needed for my application. Production dates and order #'s. Currently there is a tracker I rigged up http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/gtolist.php? but I need a full on registry for the cars that have been delivered. Photos and Mod Info with access from each user would be so awesome, built into the userCP.

Quiet expansive isnt it?
I've designed one of these for YaBB with the aid of another guy doing the hardcore programming, if there's a VB expert out there, I'd be willing to create a CSS based template, the images, some of the code, and the English language file if someone wants to get on board with this and get cracking.

Yes perfect!!!!
Please save me from having to constantly update this:
http://www.aussiefrogs.com/gallery/usergallery.htm
An extension of the user profile page with the ability for the member to be able to update all info (some fixed drop downs & character text fields) & upload/ update 4 or so images themselves would be great.
All this with a search feature so others can enter a make & model & bring up members with that car.
Revision. So far we have:

Optima

wanting/ requesting a very similar in description hack.
If we all were to pay the developer US$20 for a suitable hack, that would translate to $240 into a pay pal account.
Would this suffice a developer?
& is $20 a fair price to pay?
I am upgrading to 3.0.0 gold, currently .7 beta..

Well, just thought I would give you all an update:
vBGarage3 is coming along well! In fact, I'm shooting for a pre-release this weekend if all goes well. So far, it's pretty basic. It's more or less the same thing vBGarage2 for vB2 was, for now (for those who remember vBGarage2 before it was 'yanked' by the vB.org staff). vBGarage3 is a complete 100% rewrite from the ground up. It's quick, and seemingly stable so far. :)
I'm really sorry it's taken so long to get out, but I've been swamped with work these past couple of months, so I haven't had the time to really dedicate to this like I had hoped.
In any event, at the very least I'll try to get some screenshots up before the weekend.
Don't worry guys, it's coming. :)
i would kill my mother for this hack :o
i cant wait to see it magnus.. if only i had some php skills to help out :(

I think Hoffi is threatening to release his in the near future too. The thing is, that this hack could work for almost anything.. jetskis, motorbikes, dogs, you name it, so you'll have a lot more takers than you think!

magnus
04-07-2004, 07:59 PM
Hey, if Hoffi get's his out first, good for him. I don't see releasing hacks as a 'competition', lol.
In any event, the soon-to-be-released version will contain:
* The ability for a user to upload an admin-defined amount of photos
* Either the ability to input vBCode text, sort of a "psuedo-webpage" deal or to build a generic page by "filling in the blanks" per se, which can be defined by the admin. I haven't really decided which way to go yet.
* Ease of access, http://url/vbgarage.php?userid={x}
* User control panel. User can add/remove photos at any time, as well as change/update text.
* Usergroup control. Can deny/grant access for specific usergroups.
This version will NOT contain GD or Imagemagick support. Future versions might, though. All files are stored in the SQL database.
If you guys have any ideas, let's hear them. :)

Will an admin/mod be able to add vehicle data for non-members cars? (or be able to approve data submitted by non-members)

At the moment, this version only supports 1 car per user. I can work on making it for multiple cars though, shouldn't be too hard.
Garage moderation is planned for release, but not with this version. This initial version is pretty stripped down in term of Admin features. I have a whole moderation queue system planned for the next release. :)

I'm thinking I may need a couple beta testers. I'm looking to get a beta version out tomorrow, to see how it holds up on another forum. I see a few people were interested. If you're still interested, shoot me a PM. I'd like to try and get forums with large userbases. Preferably with 100 or so active users, so they can beat on it to death.

With your subsequent releases, do you think they will be upgradable upon the version you are about to release so users don't have to re-enter everything again?
It seems your future releases will have very useful features.

I for one will be glad when you get your hack done. I was one of the lucky ones who downloaded the one for vB2 before they canned it for whatever reason. I've been using it as a trophy room on a hunting and fishing web site. It seems to work great for that. Admittedly, we haven't advertised it much due to saving bandwidth, but it does do what I want it to do.
Some things that would be nice would be a wholesale way to make it available to members. For example, I want to allow members with a minimum of 50 posts have a trophy room with maybe 5 pictures. Members with 100 posts would get an additional 5 or so pictures in theirs. It can be done now, but it has to be done on an individual basis and is time consuming. Maybe there's some way to set a conditional to give access???
One other minor thing is the part that's in the registration form that asks for their car make and model and such. I really don't want that information there. I've half heartedly tried to find it and change it to trophy type and stats like Deer- 8 pointer -200 lb.
This hack and Logican's Web templates are my 2 hold ups from switching to vB3. The others, I can live with or without.
Skip
I haven't migrated to my new site yet from YaBB, but I should be doing at the end of this month, and then I can test any Garage hack that comes out. With your hack, I think it's suitable to almost anything, like Skip mentions, fishing etc. What a lot of the 'Garage' orientated people will be looking for, will be a set list of data per car, eg:
BHP: [formfield]
Weight: [formfield]
..etc. This also means that it's very easy to compare the different vehicles stored, ie, draw up a garage homepage and print up the top ten cars, or fastest, or lightest, etc.
There's also the fact that, as knowledgeable about cars as my members are, they know nothing about VB code, so they would find it hard to build a page about their cars that way.
Nonetheless, awesome hack! You'll find a lot of takers for this!

magnus has indicated that user group control can be used with his/ her first release. You could tweak vb garage to work with your criteria using the usergroups already built into vbulletin.
I will also only allow the "regulars" to take up space on the server, 50 posts & at least a few months of rego.
