Hi! I work for a consortium of 79 public and school libraries. We're looking for a web board to help address communication needs between our sites and the central office. I'm about 90% decided that vBulletin is the best bet for us, but I have a question or two.

Can the software be set up to notify users via email whenever a new post is made? If yes, can this be set (by the user) for specific threads? Based on my reading, it looks like this is possible but I'd like to be sure before we purchase anything.

Thanks!

Donovan

When a user creates a thread, if any replies are made, that thread starter is sent a notification email telling them someone has replied.

Same for someone who replies to a thread, if someone makes a reply after them, they too get an email saying so.

Note the option too receive the email must be turnt on by the user in their control panel.

There is also an add on released at this site which shows a portion of the reply in the email.

vBulletin 2 will not e-mail you when a new post is made anywhere in a given forum unless the administrator enters in each user's e-mail. In vBulletin 3, users can subscribe to forums, but the e-mails may be delayed by up to 24 hours.

I have the same question,
Users want to be e-mailed on ANY new thread that is posted. I'm seeing that vbull 2 can't do it unless and Admin puts in the e-mail address? where?how?, but that vbull 3 will have? that option? but delayed for 24hours? and would there be an option summary with just one e-mail listing all the links and a summary sentence or two?? just wondering
But would like clarification on the "possible" way of doing if if the admin does something? thanx...
