confessionary hack

basically what i would like is a hack where users can make annonymous confessions which other users and guests can then read.

i would like for the confession submission page to be seperate and for rules to be displayed next to the confession input box some sort of page where it says all confessions are annoymous i would like to be able to set it to accept guest confessions from the acp (sometimes the board makes enemies, they may try and flood the confession page with ++++ if guest confessing is on, so i would like to be able to turn it off if i get any problem) and so that each confession can have it's own id number which you could then click it would show the confession seperately and then you could report it or vote for it as a good/bad confession.now for some of you this will be like 10 minutes work, for others it could be a week but if i picked up anything from around here, i know it'll be ++++ easy :)

my thinking was it would be kinda like the shoutbox, except you'd have a different page to actually make the shout, a 3rd page to display the rules seperately and a 4th page to display the confession seperately and enable users to rate the confession/report it.

starting coding this myself it wasn't hard using the right things as reference but i've literally only just started, i got the main page and the main templates but that's it so far :)

ok if anyone wants this i'll release it, it's not yet got many of the above features, well it's basically just missing the voting/rating process and the admin options but as it, works pretty well :)

I did something like this, but I just made one forum show any who start the thread as private so no one can see who started it (besides userid 1)

i was gonna release it but i never got round to adding the cool functionality that i was asking for i.e. the admin control aspect of it all

i will probably add that all when i start to make the vb3 version and then make the release :)

it will be available asap, just sorting a few things on the administration end then it'll be ready, after that then it's just a matter of me getting the live demo up and having it test properly. oh and i gotta work out the pagenav problem i'm having but that's just a condition (dirty fix).

i aint even found time to fix the user activation hack, but i got a near free week next week *crosses fingers*

i'll hold you to that, it's currently a nice script though, alot nicer looking than the bare bones vb2 version with a few more features too (don't get to excited) :)

If you need a hand with testing or anything else within my abilities (I'm not a coder but know my way around php files "okay") just let me know. I have several excellent beta testers on my site that can turn up issues that normal users may not encounter for months. I can use this addition anytime you are ready and able to share... big time.

most definately is bryan and thanks for your offer of beta testing, when the script is finished i'll definately need it tested from a clean install so i'll be in touch in private, tbh i've been on major hiatus from a load of stuff due to so many factors, work, women, etc. but was looking at the code yesterday and know two bugs that i've gotta squash, it' still not finished though, i'm say 75% with one big step taking it upto 90-95% then i'll buzz around it making sure nowts missing before packaging it.

What's visible on my site is only part of what Sabret00he has developed. There's actually a comment system that goes with it which I've hidden from view for my specific use (it was redundant with the journals also installed on my site).

Amy made something that could be used to do 'about the same thing' for vb3 , perhaps it would be more productive to ask them to port theirs, as they seem to release a bit faster.

as i've said in several threads, some people that have asked me in private via pm are now using the hack live on their site, given the amount of trouble i've had with supporting the hack in some cases due to the nature of the hack (working outside of the vBulletin directory) coupled with the fact i wanna re-write the code as i feel i can do better (when i've got time) the hack hasn't seen the light of day yet, oh and you add that to the fact that i've said once i've got something else exclusive on my site it'll be a free-for-all i'm not sure what i can do?

close the thread by all means though, it serves no purpose to be open rather than to remind me to hurry up with what i'm working on so i can release this.

Can i just state to all beta testers that there was a serious security problem in the last build i sent out. 3.0.5 has been made secure.

no ETA i'm afraid, i'd say around the middle of October but even then i'm not saying so for sure. basically right now i'm concentrating on supporting GRPS and bug fixing on my site. I wanted to bring this out sooner, but with all the GRPS problems, i reckon i can do well to try and simplify the instructions.
