well i think it's helpful, but Erwin also stated he doesn't like it that much.
We decided we'll enable it for now and decide after a while if the pro's or con's overweight

Just to bring up this thread, I second this to being removed.
I've seen several cases where users have failed to notice the original thread date, which is usually over a year old and they just bump it - very annoying:(

Personally I think they'll do it regardless of having the smiliar threads enabled or not.

I think the ability to contribute to an old thread is the distinguishing feature of a bulletin board and makes it preferrable over mailing lists.
I admit that sometimes user do it without realizing the thread's date so it would nice to make thread date more obvious in these threads (which my "blink date if thread is old hack" does in my own board). But as a general I don't agree with any restrictions (like closing them) that will discourage replying to old threads.

im not saying anything about closing the threads, it just seems that latly more and more REALLY OLD threads are appaering, like two of zajakos that have both been discontinued. :\

Why didn't the /me tag work in your post?
because it just works in front of a new line and i accidential added a space before it :)
@topic: it's like Logician said.
If they create a new thread everyone cries, there is already such a thread, if they bump up an old one, it's the other way round. :)
we'll let it this way for now, if it really gets a problem we can disable it...
