Popularity / Anti-Popularity Hack

Currently I use the 2.3.2 version.

I should expalin what brought about this idea first :)

One of my co-webmasters accidently clicked a few wrong buttons and deleted a member hehehe. Of course we got it recreated, and back to about the same number of posts etc. But it was the joke going around that everyone should be careful or the webmaster would push the red-button for you ;)

So I had this idea this morning. About coming up with a "red-button" to put in people's postbits. That members can click. It would then record them as voting for the person to get the red-button, and record the time/date of the vote :)

Perhaps have a link to all those that voted. Maybe a percent of the members that have voted for them to get the red-button lol. All in good fun, wouldn't actually delete anyone :)

Anyway, this could have other uses too though. Could make it a popularity thing too.

Having a most popular member, or most hated ;)

Perhaps have a page listing all those that voted, maybe list the % of those that voted in their postbit. Etc.

I don't know much about coding myself yet, but might try to hack this out if noone else has the time.

Anyone else think this could be useful? ideas on modifications that they could use of this?

More importantly, anyone up for writing something like this? :)

Technical name for your hack request is "karma hack". :) It was a commercial hack in vb2.x.x but it was so popular that VB3 inherited it.

So if you upgrade to VB3, you'll have it for free (at least a very similiar system).

In vbulletin.org we have a users comment hack. It is not exactly what you want but members can enter comments about other members so kinda similiar if you feel like it..

Do you know where I might be able to get ahold of the karma hack for 2.x.x?

Won't be upgrading to 3.0 until alot of the hacks I've gotten used to I can either convert over or the writers create a version to work with it.

Since it is a commercial hack, you can't find it here in vbulletin.org (we don't host commercial hacks) but if you search for keyword "karma" here, you can find many threads and access info to its author (together with some "I paid, I couldn't get the hack" complaints).

But if you are going to upgrade to VB3 soon, I don't suggest you using a hack that VB3 already inherited. Not because you can get it FREE in VB3, but because their technical structure will be different and you'll need an special import script to migrate your vb2 karmas to vb3. If you cant get such a script, then you'll lose all your karma info when you upgraded to VB3.
