well these hacks are all nice and dandy. i've been goin nuts on my site with the help of your posts and code here and have figured out quite a bit on my own because of you guys!

but...

sadly, do you lose all your mods to your templates, etc. when you upgrade???

not that i'm going to v3 anytime soon (i'm a newbie 2.3.2) but well i'm just thinking...

basically the answer is yes

vb3 has some of the hacks in as standard tho suck as the quick reply but any other hacks you have installed on vb2 you will loose as the template and file systems are inconpatible.

Let me get this straight...

When we upgrade to vb3, even the templates will be erased??? Meaning everyone will have to start all over with a fresh new board (vb default color, logo and all) just as it was when we first bought it???

If you are upgrading from vB2 to vB3, templates, files, tables will be complete overwrote (Except for the user/thread/post etc tables, stuff that contains members and posts)

imho 2.3.0 is better than 3 and I plan on never upgrading

^

Why do you think 2.3.0 is better than 3?

And is it really possible to "never upgrade" and still maintain your forum over the years? If so, I might be with you, because this "overwrite" stuff is ridiculous. You'd think they'd find a way to let us upgrade to vb3 without erasing our precious templates.

vB3 advances so much, thats why its a new generation (3 not 2) because its so much more advanced they changed the templates to make things better, its not like its hard to skin... They make it easy enough compared to the other forums.

I just prefer vb 2.3.0 over 3, I had 3 for a while and didnt like the setup of the newreply and the WYSIERERWER or whatever you call it. Until theres a way to easily transfer my hacks and templates to 2.3.0 to 3 I will never upgrade.

I takes nothing to upgrade. Most templates only have aboput 5 diffrent templates so open up what ever you use get the 2x template and the new 3x template and start convreting. It take ya a day and your done and your upgraded.

The CSS is not hard to fill back out and hacks, well all the good ones are there. Like quick reply, today/yesterday/profile pic/user rating system/rank images the admincp, mod cp and user cp all are 100x better. The code is 100x better. A dubug mode that give 1000000x better info then microstats ever did hell I could type for a week on how much better it is.

It is more then definatly worht it and even in beta. I have only seen a few minor bugs and that was in beta 3. And if you do the upgrade now not all to much to worry about late ;)

man, i don't blame ya.

i'm just getting started in php and bulletin boards. i recently went from phpbb to vBulletin (whew) and i LOVE vB. it's much more organized than phpbb and much easier to make changes to the board overall.

management options are quick, effective and powerful.

i can't imagine it would be worse with 3.0. i dread upgrading and losing all my hacks and layout (there isn't much but it's coming along so far). but well, i'm a software engineer and i understand the need to keep improving a product and the pains involved in upgrading.

oh well!
