View Full Version : Bizarre Request

Hi Guys,

Well I hope this isn't on here already, I tried searching but couldn't find it.

Basically here it is:

I co-run a website - www.ej-designs.com. The vbulletin (version: 2.3.2) is currently running fine, quite new license so no hacks or anything YET . . .

Basically, there is a section in the forum called "Sig Requests" this is a place that people post request for a Signature to be designed. However no-one ever reads the rules before posting and it is really annoying me. **Edit Language**

So I would like a hack of some sort that MAKES people read (or at least look at) the Rules page of the site before they can post in request section.

I thought it might be easy enough to do myself, but I think I would end up re-directing the New Thread link for the WHOLE of the forum to the Rules page and never be able to get back or actually post - hehe.

So if you know what I mean any suggestions would be BRILLIANT.

If you want to ask questions do feel free.

Thanks in advance

David (VirusEJ)

Impossible. You can't really make people read anything. However, I'm sure something like that can be arranged, but I doubt people will actually read it.

Very true, although if they are shown it before then I can be more strict about the law-breakers.

Thanks for that link, it would appear to be a close match to what i was after,

However, how do I find out if it was ever updated to include the ability to select which sections you apply it to, as if this happened on EVERY one of my like 20 sections I think users would be annoyed.

Thanks

If a user intents not to read a page, I agree that you can not force him easily (unless you make a quiz at the end lol) but I applied a javascript to the "PROCEED" button of registration page and new users are forced to wait in that screen in 60 seconds (at least if they didn't disable javascripts).

There is no guarantee that they will read the page while waiting but I guess it is a better idea than staring in the counter (at least for some people) so I guess page is read more now.. :D

Tou could possibly do as Logician says, but instead of the proceed button, have the member enter a certain word from your rules, that way they Must read your rules to find the word, and page will only register if the word is correct.

Hope this helps

Maybe Black could come check this out if possible.

I was wondering if you had since updated this hack with the ability to choose which forums have this re-direct to Agreement, because at the moment I have like 12 sections on my forum and only 3 require it.

Thanks a lot
