Maybe place check message length before the submit buttons.

But nice mod.

Sorry, but this is just another re-hash of a hack already done better.

Maybe place check message length before the submit buttons.

I tried that but it didn't look nice :)

Sorry, but this is just another re-hash of a hack already done better.

It is not a re-hash. I coded this template mod myself with no reference to firefly's template mod.

Why don't you release something that someone hasn't already done? Be original.

Disturbed
02-02-2003, 03:37 PM
err theres nothing wrong with releasing sevral versions of the same hack

maybe ppl dont want the hacked version and just want the template mod

yeah and thnx for sharing mist

Dean C

Because i made this FOR myself and thought that other people could benefit from it because i know there are MANY people out there who don't want to hack their boards.

Yes. That is true. If i came across this before i used firefly's. I would have installed this one.

@mist- Nice job buddy. My take on these template only hacks, they are great, since no hacking of php files is necessary. The only downside is if you have more than a few skins. I have 9, that would be easier to edit only 1 php file.

Tony G
02-03-2003, 06:09 AM
Well set aside some time to install it into every template set then. ;)

Thanks mate :). Well for firefly's hack you do have to edit a template if you have more than one style :). There's adding $replybox to showthread and adding the showthread_replybox template :nervous:

Hey mist thanks alot!!! I've been looking for a quick reply hack that didnt mess with the php files. I didn't think any existed since I found 2 quick reply hacks still modified the php files. I didnt think it was possible(like i'd really know!). Don't pay any attention to those who are trying to bring you down.*ahem* not mentioning any names. They are just jealous cause they didnt figure it out themselves. But yeah anyway, what i love about it is that I have one less hack to worry about being compatible with my other hacks. Thanks again mist! You have no idea how much I appreciate this mod!

Dean C

Dean C

The reason it was released as a hack was to not show the panel for guest and to get the width of the textarea correct ;)

Per Mist, come faccio e fare in modo che la finestra del Post Reply stia dentro alla misura di tutti i Reply? In quanto il Reply Post sborda, e di molto, sulla destra.

ciao
jancarlo

for Mist, as I make and to make so that the window of the Post Reply
is within to the measure of all the Reply? In how much the Reply Post
goes beyond, and a lot, on the right.

This was perfect, exactly what I was looking for, nothing more, nothing less. Thank you for sharing it. Much appreciated!

One thing I'll mention is that I have one of the vbskins skins installed and there are *two* instances of:

<!-- first unread and next/prev -->

And I just did it quick without paying attantion and it put the quick reply box *at the top* of the thread, heh, which... ummm.. looked pretty silly. If you have the Ravio vbskin, this needs to go after the second instance, which everyone but me would probably realize.

Don't worry, you're not an idiot, you just probably missed it. :D

Have you found this:

Goto Templates > Modify > [expand list] > Show Thread Templates [expand] > showthread [edit]

???

I can't offer support if you have custom styles installed :( as i don't know the structure of them :)

Hey Damn nice miSt!!

I liked it :D

I originally had FireFly's hack installed, but I ummm screwd up my shoethread.php and had to revert to the original one..

So then I thought of installing your hack..

Its great :D

One problem: The columns of the hack are by default 110, that fills up the entire place. How can I make it of the same width of Firefly's hack?

Dean C
03-06-2003, 03:36 PM
Change:

cols="110"

To whatever you wish... play around with it... firefly's hack judges the textarea width by calling a function. You can't call functions in templates unforunately... try using 60

Just curious if anyone has seen the following issue regarding this hack:

Signed in as my userid for my forum. Send them a link to a thread, and then they use the quick reply box. Seems as though if we all share an external IP it will allow them to post under my nick and not ask for a userid/pass before they can post.

Seen this?

I know. Add the $textareacols to your template mod. ;)

Dean C
03-26-2003, 03:51 PM
Hehe but it is not defined in showthread.php - that's what the hack does. That's one of the two disadvantages of using a template mod. With conditionals this can be done easily :)

- miSt

Boofo
03-26-2003, 05:42 PM
But that is what I use for Firefly's Quick reply Box that is a separate template. Why wouldn't it work in the showthread template as well? ;)

Ahhh but that requires hacking buddy

use phpinclude then.

Dean C
03-27-2003, 03:33 PM
Boofo - look at firefly's code...

That code you posted is part of the code added in the hack (IIRC)....

Loo - i refuse to embark on all this phpinclude stuff ;)

Loo - i refuse to embark on all this phpinclude stuff

Well then, if you dont mind ill post the code ;). Anyone looking to use the $textareacols add this on a new line in phpinclude:

if (strpos($_SERVER['PHP_SELF'], 'showthread.php') != false)
{
$textareacols = gettextareawidth();
}

Find in the showthread template:

cols="110"

Change to:

cols="$textareacols"

Dean C

works great!!

It does add some xtra lines underneath the persons post and sig. (like they hit return 8 or 9 times in their signature)... any way to remove them?

Pollo
04-10-2003, 11:42 PM
If it added extra lines, you did something incorrect. Doesn't add extra lines on mine (and guessing anyone else's).

One thing about this (which would be nice if it was addressed), is that all users will see this quick reply box, whether they are logged in or not. I have to uninstall this as I've gotten complaints that users have not been logged in and have typed a message in the quick reply box, only to be redirected to the log-in page. Of course, when they hit back their message is gone. I need a quick reply that only shows if users are logged in, or at least alerts users that they are not logged in somehow so they won't type a message and lose it.

small question, i asked this in the other thread.. Can this be made to be forum Specific? I only want specific Forums on the Board to be able to utilize this. I have a Spam forum so I can keep the Spam outta the other forums. I just want to utilize it in that forum, and maybe one or two others. Thanks.:)

This is a good mod IMO.:) and saves the file hacking, and possible pains of rehacking them if you make a mistake. Which I constantly do:D

Dean C

This sould work.

Stick this in the phpinclude: (edit the forumids part)

if (strpos($_SERVER['PHP_SELF'], 'showthread.php') != false)
{
$textareacols = gettextareawidth();
$forumids = "1"; // forum ids quick reply will show in, seprate with comma's
if ($forumids==$forumid) {
eval("\$quickreply = \"".gettemplate("mist_quickreply")."\";");
} else {
$quickreply = "";
}
}

In the showthread template find:

<!-- first unread and next/prev -->
<table cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="95%" align="center">
<tr>
<td><smallfont>$pagenav&nbsp;</smallfont></td>
<td align="right"><smallfont>
<img src="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/images/prev.gif" alt="" border="0">
<a href="showthread.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&threadid=$threadid&goto=nextoldest">Last Thread</a>

<img src="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/images/next.gif" alt="" border="0">
</smallfont></td>
</tr>
</table>
<!-- first unread and next/prev -->

Below that add:

$quickreply

Make a new template named mist_quickreply and populate it with:

<! -- hackless quick reply -->

<br />
<script language="javascript">
<!--
var postmaxchars = $postmaxchars;
function validate(theform) {
if (theform.message.value=="") {
alert("Please complete the message field.");
return false; }
if (postmaxchars != 0) {
if (theform.message.value.length > $postmaxchars) {
alert("Your message is too long.\n\nReduce your message to $postmaxchars characters.\nIt is currently "+theform.message.value.length+" characters long.");
return false; }
else { return true; }
} else { return true; }
}
function checklength(theform) {
if (postmaxchars != 0) { message = "\nThe maximum permitted length is $postmaxchars characters."; }
else { message = ""; }
alert("Your message is "+theform.message.value.length+" characters long."+message);
}
//-->
</script>

<table width="{contenttablewidth}" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0" border="1" style="border-collapse: collapse" bordercolor="{tablebordercolor}" {tableinvisibleextra} align="center" >

</table>
<! -- /hackless quick reply -->

Note: This will add one query to forums that use quick reply (on showthread.php), this is because i put it in a template. You can avoid the query by hacking showthread.php or hard coding the template into phpinclude (something i dident want to do because of overhead). if you want to hack:

open showthread.php

Find:

showthread

Replace with:

showthread,mist_quickreply

There are actually two of this exact same code:
2/ Goto Templates > Modify > [expand list] > Show Thread Templates [expand] > showthread [edit]

3/ Then find:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

<!-- first unread and next/prev -->
<table cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="95%" align="center">
<tr>
<td><smallfont>$pagenav&nbsp;</smallfont></td>
<td align="right"><smallfont>
<img src="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/images/prev.gif" alt="" border="0">
<a href="showthread.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&threadid=$threadid&goto=nextoldest">Last Thread</a>
&nbsp;
<a href="showthread.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&threadid=$threadid&goto=nextnewest">Next Thread</a>
<img src="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/images/next.gif" alt="" border="0">
</smallfont></td>
</tr>
</table>
<!-- first unread and next/prev -->

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4/ Below it add: <snip>
You added it after the first one. Remove that and add it after the second instance of the above.

This is a simple quick reply hack box based on Razor's "Quick reply modification 1.1" It has been made to work perfectly on version 2.3.x and up and also changed the appearence to look nearly identical as the normal reply function.

Any way to change the width?

Thanks!

Thank you very much for this! Works great on 2.3.2. Man that was simple. :)

How can one add the Post Subject (optional) line in this?

Thanks again!

Chris

Hey, its a great mod.. I got an idea

Can you change the length to abit smaller like what firefly quickreply hack did, it would be cool.. and would it be nice if you make a template for the quick reply smilies ;)

This template mod was made for people who don't want to play with their files. It's not possible to have smilies without hacking so you may want to look at FireFly's version for that (I recently added a tutorial in the thread in the first post on how to add the smilies).

Very cool quick reply box. Just installed my Vbulletin and had no probs with your hack. Nice.

I just found out that when you use this quick reply, it does not subscribe you to the thread.

Hmm. I'm using this one, but my Content Table Width is set at 70%. I can't seem to get this one to conform to my restraints.

Just decrease the cols part of the <textarea> tag until it fits :)

If you play around with the html you can have a tickbox there :)

Sure if you are willing to mess about with it :)

I believe there is a quick reply add on over at www.vbulletintemplates.com (http://www.vbulletintemplates.com) which allows this, im sure you can just edit it too work with Mist's version.

There's not too much to it. In the template you are adding the quick reply to, there are two of these:

<!-- first unread and next/prev -->

You are adding the quick reply after the *first one* but you need to add it after the *second one* instead.

Damn im stupid.. hehe, now you are saying that i understand thanks m8!
And i can add a smilie box with changing only the template right?

Rest assured that making a small error while adding code to a template does not make one stupid, heh.

Re: smilie box...

I think it was discussed previously in the thread. I have since uninstalled this template modification in favor of Firefly's hack.

Just wanted to say thanks for this hack. Sure it's been done before (as highlighted by some of the haters), but I love not having to hack up my code.

It helps maintain the quick reply between upgrades. God bless.
