I run a pretty sizable board, and we have our share of troublemakers and sometimes I have to IP ban them. Sometimes even their whole ISP if they are on dialup. Anyways this causes problems for some of my other users that has a similar IP or the same ISP and they didnt cause any problems!
I was wondering if there is a way, or maybe a hack that you can leave the IP banned but designate specific usernames to still be able to access the boards even if the IP they are on is banned.
Anything I can do?

Just use the miserable user hack on them.... they'll get so annoyed that they wont ever come back! Because it'll take them forever for a page to load!

Believe me, they will stop at nothing to get what they want to say posted lol
I really need something like I stated

Well believe me I was in the same boat as you and the miserable user hack solved my problems because it takes them anywhere from 60 to 90 seconds to load any page on the forum and they only have a 5% chance of posting anything.
IP banning is useless because they can use proxies to get into your forum and keep on registering over and over so its a no end situation there.
I have some unpublished hacks that can be used as addons to my miserable hack. I have come up with a trapping mechanism which you can use to do selective banning on IP's.
And I also have a few other hacks that are alternatives to banning users. My latest one is called the "Underprivileged User" hack that gives a user slow access and deprive them of a lot of nice features on the board. :D
MaDCaT75, Thank you very much for your kind words. :)

problem is, all they would have to do is register another name and they could post like normal again. IP banning prevents this, and most of them dont know enough to use proxies

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48710 may be of some good.:) If their name's banned, they won't be able to see the forum at all and will assume the forum has been closed.
Also, some time soon I'll be making a hack that adds a member to everyone's ignore list so he'll post away but no one will see him.:)

That almost always works... except on one obnoxious user. He figured out how to get out, so I wrote a different, better banning hack.

I really need something like I said in my first post.

See this?

Does not look like your exact request but at the end does the same thing. It does not allow banned user to logout to reregister so unless he is a expert user who can delete cookies manually, you got rid of him.
Well, if he is capable of deleting the cookies manually, your request will fail too because your logic depends on banning the IP when the user is X however when user logs out or deletes the cookies manually, he wont be user X anymore in the eye of vbulletin so your IP ban will fail instantly. Since banned users can log out in default vb, your IP ban will be for no avail.. :)

I have banned only 2, 1 I just banned their name and they got the hint.
Other was a now admin (ya ya I know) and that was an isp ban :)
Ip's are a pain to ban users on dail up so easy around. Ban an isp and no more troubles :)

but what if someone with a similar ISP tries to register? Isnt that unfair to them?

Well the chances of it are about the same as an ip range ban.
ppp173-t.gatecom.com is my isp
Now someone in next city using gateway may be
ppp174-t.gatecom.com
Person I banned was citylevel2.ispname.com
So if someone else was using their isp long as not same city was no issue.

so you just put ppp174-t.gatecom.com in the ban list and it'll ban anyone with that ISP or IP address?
