Latest thread box on different page

Please can someone direct me to the hack which allows a box to be placed on my homepage highlighting the latest threads to be left on the forum. The best thing I can compare this to is the shoutbox which allows the quick comments to be left.

Not sure if I've seen a feature like this NOT on the forum page and on the homepage instead. Is this possible?

TECK's vB lite portal has latest thread on your homepage, not main index.

Another hack of his will put the 10 latest threads on your forums main index, not homepage.
