View Full Version : Thinking about making the switch

I currently own UBB Threads and am running version 6.2.3 and have found that it doesn't quite serve the purposes that I have in mind. There are relatively few hacks for it (considering all else that's available) and I really should have done a bit more research before buying it.
My forums are based on uploading and sharing of personal MP3 files, what I would ideally like is a quota limit on attachments and UBB Threads has nothing for this nor the interest in creating a hack for it. I also did some digging here and saw mention of a system that would allow people to rate, that would be way rad but I don't expect that.
Is there a system that will allow for quota limits and management of attachments? Also is there a converter for ubb threads (ver 6.2.3 to the current version of vbulletin? Thanks in advance.

I can't find one here, but it should be reasonably easy to make (I'm assuming by a quota, you mean, for example, "User X can attach up to 5 MB of files.")

Exactly, I am thinking like a 15 meg limit.

Yup, that's easy to code. One query, in fact.
I'm half-tempted to write it now, even :p

How about a converter?

I don't know the status of the converters because I've never had the need for one. You can post in the vB.com pre-sales forum asking; James U.S. writes the converters, I believe.

I thought there may have been one already written.

This is standard in vB3 and could be easily hacked into vB2 as filburt1 said :)
Offical:
Infopop Ultimate Bulletin Board 5, Infopop Ultimate Bulletin Board 6.0, 6.1 and 6.2, Infopop UBBThreads 5.4 (formerly wwwthreads), vBulletin Lite, Infopop OpenTopic/UBB.x, Ikonboard 2, Ikonboard 3, phpBB2, DC Forum, XMB, and ezboard (posts only, not members for ezboard).
Unoffical(avalible here in the hacks database):
UltraBoard 2.2.x, JawBreaker 1.02, YaBB, WebBBS, phpBB2, yaBB SE, ThwBoard 3, and Invision Power Board 1.1
Those are the currently avalible importers

Thanks for all the information and faste responses everyone. It looks like I will have to wait for one for UBB Threads 6.2.

Remember, you can always convert to a product that has a vB importer. For example, you can go from UBB.threads to phpBB to vB.

The only problem I can see with multiple conversions is the fact that I have a lot of current attachments and I don't want to lose them.

Well, provided each converter handles attachments, then it shouldn't be a problem.
I'm glad you like my idea, filb. ;)
