How to get .swf (flash files) to display from a forum post ?

Hi All,

I would really like to be able to attach .swf files to my threads (as links only) and when the link is clicked on, launch a browser window that plays the .swf movie (flash movie)

I have tried this with a test 2.3.0 vB, but it doesn't work, the browser window opens and has a broken link image...and nothing happens...

... let me explain what im after a bit more ...

I enable .swf files as valid attachments. Disable HTML. Configure to show attachments as links only.

*All the above done in vB admin.*

OK... scenario....

you have a thread that you post with an attachment called 'mymovie.swf'

it shows as a link to 'mymovie.swf'

you click on this link and it loads an attached file from the vB database into the opended browser window ...

Once vB has opened the bowser window and loaded the attched file (mymovie.swf) the browser should kick in (flash player) and play the movie ... ??

Do you know what i mean ?

Is this possible ? If not, can it be ?? What are the risks ?? (XSS)

Cheers for your help...id really like to work this one out, as having the ability to have flash in my vB forum is crucial for a new site im hoping to launch soon

PS: I would really like to discuss the related security risks associated with XSS in relation to enabling .swf files on a vB forum...surely we can conquer this pain in the proverbial ;)

Yes i know, what you meant... i ve seen lot of forums which they can post the flash (swf) directly and play thru the post... I just wonder how to do it?

This is how i post the flash in other forum and it works !!! but not in my forum :

width = 600 height = 400

by the way, in that forum it has the insert flash button , it will ask you for the width and height and the link to your file.

Yes the same thing is happening to me, I installed the Vbproarcade hack into my Vbulletin and when the llink is clicked on the movie does load but when you right click the file it says movie not loaded and it never loads. This has been a real bother in my forums because i recently installed the arcade hack but the dang thing doesn't work. Oh yeah, I also have Vbulletin version 2.3.0 installed...

I've been trying to kill myself to find a copy of Vbulletin version 2.2.9 so i could install the hacks I wanted to, IE the rpg, the store etc. but I don't think I will ever find version 2.2.9 nor do I think the hackers will be making an rpg or store for 2.3.0 :(
