since i've finally installed vB3, i've been going thru it, getting excited to all new levels but what i did notice is that it kinda makes quite a few hack obsellete/incorporates a bunch of the vB2.XX hacks, i was wondering if it would be viable for one of our gracious admins or other comm members to go thru the 2.XX hacks and make a list of the ones made obseleet/incorporated by vB3

* sabret00the knows it's alot to ask but the only thing you get without effort is failure ;)

i'm sure none of us has the time to find out which hacks are made obulete, except for quikreply and multiple attachments and template conditions ;)

also the question is why?
i mean hacks which are actually in vb3 included would surely not be ported over ;)

i can't remember the reason, something to do with me being lazy no doubt :nervous:

It's obsolete, BTW.

Anyway, just as from vB1 to vB2, it's up to the hackers to port hacks from vB2 to vB3. Also, vB2 hacking discussion eventually won't be allowed once vB3 has been out in final form for a while. :)

 thanks i knew i spelt it wrong, hence the cycling

just a quick query, not like i can hack or nowt but can anyone port a hack over or it that upto the original author?

it's up to the author to port over his hacks, or to give permission to another user

Extending on what Stefan said (and implied): a person must get consent from the original hack author before porting it themselves publicly.

But you can port it privately right?:)

Just so everyone knows, I am porting any of my hacks of use from vB2 to vB3 as soon as it goes Final:)

Right, of course you can. Contradictory to the RIAA's and MPAA's views, you can do whatever you want for personal use to your stuff.

Also, you can create a new hack for vB3, which has the same general idea as a hack that was created for vB2. Of course you don't port the hack over, i.e. using the code and format, but it can always be re-created.

Actually, since the code is different, as are the functions and variables, any port will have different code anyway. So there is a fine line between creating a new hack that is the same as a hack in vB2, and porting a hack from vB2. :)

But...you could create a hack that is extremely similar to a hack for vB2, but change its looks, name, layout, and maybe add one or two features. That way is fine isn't it?

That should be fine, yes. :)

vB3 is really amazing - I am enjoying tweaking it.

I wanted to keep the country hack v2 on my forums updated to vb3 beta 5.... thought it would be easier than it looks like it might be. Given up in the mean time, I never realised how heavily hacked my forums were until now!

You can do the country hack using conditional templates without hacking. Someone released it at vbulletintemplates.com if you need help with it.

Ooh, OK, I'll go take a look.

Thanks.
