My hack for my forum.

Just sayin' I've made my first non-preconstructed hack for my forum, altho it used a hack here @ vb.org, and (lots of) help from filburt and Gary W.

If you're interested in what I did, it's this:

I run an Animé Forum and Website, and, if you've ever played a Pokémon game, Pokémon appear at random as you walk around, and I took the concept a bit further: Why not have a chance, on each page, for a member to "Catch" a character from one of the Animés, and add it to their collection, which would be showcased in their posts and profile?

It took two days, which is a lot for me, but it works! As members are browsing the site, sometimes a linke will appear, and they can click it. they then have a 50/50 chance of catching the TACémon, as I call them.

So, now a full feature list:[list=1] Set the chance to catch "TACémon" as i call them. TACémon are stored in the database They're showcased in the Member Profile, and in the postbit If a user has over 9, they are put in a marquee, and scroll. It stops when a viewer rolls over. Click on a TACémon's picture, and it's data is displayed in a vbhome(lite)page Near-perfect Anti-Cheating system Admin CP to Add/Remove from database, Give/Take from users Update all the TACémon counts Edit TACémon and Ban/Un-ban users (Happens if they try to cheat)[/list=1]

wow, it's been such a long time since i closed my pokemon site. Over a year, i think. Ahh... the golden ages of pokemon. Soo long ago. The only site i recognize is dalegend.com, and they still suck. Their layout is a blatant rip of an ancient zapchu.com layout. I don't think they thought anyone would remember. ;)

I think that will work. You can put the onclick in any tag. Even in a hyperlink if you wish. If anyone has a better idea....

My friend is doing something similiar on his flash business layout (but obviously not with pok?mon hehe). He has occasional little dots appear on the pages and if you spot them it adds them to a showcase at the bottom of the screen. And if you get them all which takes about 5-10mins to find 'em you get to play some cool flash games he's developed and have access to some free stuff :)

nice idea tho.. i wouldnt share as if pokemon is like 90% of communitys people just nick it mod it abit and then ur no longer unique

Yeah, it sounds like some horrible disease...

Anyway, I've added some stuff:

If a user cheats, they get warned, three cheats, and they're banned from the system, unable to collect any more. There's an admin-only (password protected) panel to un-ban users. (Just enter the username!)

Also, there's another admin panel,where you enter the name of a NEW TAC?mon, and the variable to use for it. (Didn't need to put that second field, but was too lazy to make the script generate it.)

Also, if a person cheats, they're told how many times they've cheated, how many times they have left, and what the consequences are. If they get one, but are banned, then a "Sorry, you're banned" page appears.

TAC?mon are stored in the database now, instead of me hard-coding each one.

I'm so proud.
