Hi
I've searched the forums, but can't find one, so....
Is there a hack around that will give users the option of not displaying smilies?
Now I love the little beggars, and have 190 at the last count. Most people seem to love them but I have a significant vocal minority who hate them. I mean rabidly.
I noticed Invision board has the option to switch them off in User Options, and instead you just see the code. I think that looks messier, but I guess it's a trade off.
So is there a hack, and if not, anyone know if it's possible?
Ta muchly! :D

It's an option in any user's control panel, Options. Standard feature for many versions of vB.

Are you certain Erwin?
I've looked all over and see nothing like that on my board, or even here. :( In the user cp anywhere.
I know how to turn off so you don't see the smilie or vbcode panel of course, but to actual disable the smilies from showing up in posts at all is what I can't find either.
Perhaps I'm missing something, have had this requested on my site as well.

Cyricx is right Erwin, it ain't there.
I'm not talking about the disable vbcode (which disables smilies too), as that only disables the box. Doesn't stop people seeing the smilies others insert into their posts.
In the Invision board Options panel, where you select to have Avatars and Sigs enabled/disabled, it also gives the option to turn smilies on or off. If disabled then all you'll ever see is the code and not the actual smilies, just as you don't see avatars or sigs if they are disabled.
That's the only thing I envied the Invision board for. :)

admin cp > Forums & Moderators > Modify > edit (select a forum) > Allow Smilies in posts (set this to No)

Nope, that's no good, it'll disable them for everyone.
I'm talking about an individual choice like there is for avatars and sigs. :)
